I already had an eight drawer lower cabinet that was out of storage space, so I need to add a top chest. I debated between the five or six drawer options and settled on the five drawer so I would have the three larger drawers for bigger tools. I'm very happy with my decision! Choose your top and middle chests carefully. Some of the Craftsman top boxes are 12" deep, and some (like this one) are 16" deep. That extra four inches really make a difference when you start filling it up. Anyhow, I couldn't be happier with my new chest! The top is wide open with no dividers and the ball bearing drawer slides are a nice quality touch. You won't be disappointed for the price.
I have had this chest for a year now, and I like it. Well made and the ball bearing drawers glide easy. I was able to organize my most of my tools. I'm am not a mechanic but I do have a fair collection of hand tools. I had more tools than I realized, and after I've owned it for a while I realized I should have gotten the 40 inch model. No knock on this unit, I underestimated my needs. If you are looking to get a nice top chest, check out this one.
The unit that I picked up was welded together out of square and would not sit on the base cabinet (or any flat surface) without rocking back and forth. Maybe it was an isolated instance, just somehow made it past quality control. Also, I wouldn't describe this as "Heavy Duty". Probably fine for home use where it won't be constantly opened and closed every day, but not made like the heavy duty units 20 years ago. If you have to drive very far to pick this up, may be wise to inspect it at the store before driving off.
Had the best service and help getting this tool box. It's sturdy and lots of space. LOVE IT! The drawers are perfect for any tools. Would definitely buy again

Sears has a confusing line of different quality levels for these tool cabinets, this is apparently their "heavy duty" roller bearing. I own over 20 chests and would say this line is fine for just about any service with the exception of extreme professional everyday duty. The drawer size keeps the capacity well within the ability of the roller bearings to deal with the tool weight.
well built and drawer size variance meet my needs of the other models offered.. wish they had drawer liners precut but they were out of stock. roll works but getting same size cut for each drawer tedious. now that would enhance the product by having them already in place. believe some customers would agree on that, if a liner protector was desired. easy operation with good strut support for lid. must note that it gets confusing at first about lock setup; drawers versus top lid but with time the fundamentals work out. Good depth for sure to view contents. I would have liked to see this configuration have top two drawers split in half [to open individually]offer more versatility for say specialty tools. Just an overview there.
I had run of space in my tool box and was just going to get something inexpensive but larger. After reading many reviews, I went to Sears and checked out this heavy duty 5 drawer model and could not be more pleased. Unlike lesser chests, this is constructed of heavy sheet metal and does not flex. The drawers are set on bearing slides and move freely. The whole unit provides a great deal of extra space for tools, which is great, as I use it as a stand alone box. The sale price made it very reasonable for such a nice chest. Perhaps and best of all. it is AMERICAN MADE.
