I bought this generator on December 14th of 2008 because we were out of power for 2 days. By the time I got it home, we got our power back and never got to use it. I use to start it once a month. Then we lost power in late Feb of 2010 and I ran it for 16 hours. Used 2 tanks of gas and filled it with oil after both tanks. Now it will not start. I changed the oil, replaced the spark plug, cleaned the spark arrestor, drained the gas and added fresh gas, cleaned the gas line. nothing works. This is the second generator I have bought with a briggs abd stratton engine, and don't have much faith in them. I have a log splitter with a Briggs also, and have the same exact problem with it. Hopefully Sears will stand behind this Generator and make it right.

wish I had time to research generator before buying. Was in a jam because of hurricane Sandy. I had paid extra to have unit gassed, Oiled and ready to go. After third day it seized up after only two tanks of gas.I also changed the oil again just before 2nd tank.My dealer said the nut on the piston arm was not tightened and came off which through the rod and put the hole in the crank case. Apparently Brigs has a problem because they ran out of my model of motor for warrenty repairs. My dealer was able to get me the next model up at no cost. I was told ever since Brigs sent the manufacturing to Mexico & China it is not the same motor People always associated it to be as in a American made product. Nothing is anymore and its a shame. My advise which I couldnt take at time is research, research, research

This is a powerful generator, but plastic gas can. Maybe I was unlucky but the one I bought from Sears had a leak and had been previously used and returned! When I then returned it I had terrible service from the store. I finally got a Generac 5500 from ************** and am very happy with it.
