Overall, others give this:
I needed to sand down the top of a picnic bench, so told my wife I was going to go to a red shop and buy one for $30. She told me not to be silly... go and buy a decent one instead. I looked at the blue and orange stores, and then tried sears. The price for comparable sanders is very competitive, and I've had good luck with my other Craftsman tools, so Sears it was. Firstly, when buying at Sears, print off the internet price and take it with you. Saves so much discussion at the till when they try to charge you full price. Note that the sander does NOT come with a case, and there isn't one available. However, it does fit nicely into a Craftsman 14" toolbag at about $6 (one thing I don't like about Craftsman; tools come in bags, not cases, if you get any storage at all). Likes: The belt tension lever is excellent for tool-free belt changes (if you use a belt sander for any decent size job, you'll use a lot of belts) The alignment adjustment on the belt is nice and large, and works really well. Top marks there. The flip-up guard at the front of the machine to help you get in to tight spaces. Not too many other sanders have this. It's like a little secret on this one, when it should be a sales feature. It's not too noisy (I still wear ear defenders anyway, as I run the shop vac with it as well) Dislikes: The dust collection is pathetic - even with a shop vac attached. Don't know if other sanders have the same problem. You'll use it for a few minutes, then notice a pile of sanding shavings growing behind the machine. The LED which "Lights your workspace". Pathetic light, and if you need a light that badly when using a power tool, either turn the room lights on or wait until morning. Mehs (not really dislikes, because they don't affect usage): The delay start isn't really useful. On my Craftsman Router, it's great - starts slowly, then builds up speed. On this, you press the trigger, then wait. There's no real graduation, just a delay. But then again, you shouldn't be relying on that for safety. Safety: When changing belts, you'll get into the habit of turning the sander upside-down to see how the belt is tracking. If you do, wear safety glasses; it's quite possible to get parts of the previous belt fired at you, as they dislodge inside the machine. But then again, you were already wearing safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves, weren't you? weren't you...?
This is a replacement for my Craftsman Belt Sander I bought several years a go. It is easy to handle. Mounting and adjusting belts is easy and less cumbersome than the older model. The adjusting front handle make it more comfortable to use.

I purchased a sander from sears about 30 years ago and it has finally quit. After reading about this new sander I was impressed and decided to purchase it. I have not been disappointed with it capability.
very good belt sander with plenty of power for edging, leveling, and smoothing plane. I use it for leveling of the gap when joining to 2 pieces of 2x6 together. I would recommended to buy it.

I have used this guy 2 times now, once on my back deck. It seems to have plenty of power. The belts seem to track straight and true once you get them adjusted. It should give me many years of service around my house. I would purchase it again, no problem.
