Overall, others give this:
I got this sander to refinish a section of the hardwood floor in my living room. I got the 8A model based on other reviews recommending getting the larger one. Coudn't be happier with my choice. It is well made, powerful and easy to handle.
I got this sander on sale for a little over the price of the 7 A model. Couldn't be happier. It is powerful, easy to handle, and well made. It's made in China like most Craftsman tools these days.
I got this sander for doing projects around the house. It is the 8 amp version, which should have plenty of power. It comes with a dust bin with air filter. It tracks well, and it is easy to adjust. It is not too noisy. The handle can be adjusted to 3 positions, and the front cover can be lifted to expose the front of the belt. It is made in China, but looks to be of deecent quality. I haven't had it for long, so I can't tell about it's durability.
I was needing this item for my business ... mostly light duty use. I have a heavy duty table sander that handles the bigger projects, but this reaches into places that I am unable to get to with the table sander. Saves me time and money. If you aren't expecting this item to sand anything real tough it will hold up just fine. Easy to use right out of the box. Would recommend it to a friend.
the more powerful motor also makes this sander heavier, allowing me not to tend to dear down on my project.

This is the first belt sander I have owned. I cannot compare it to other brands or models. That said, here is my first impression after one day of use. It is lighter than I thought it might be. This has plusses and minuses. Sanders use their weight to do some of the work. More weigh would ad inertial stability. The good news is this sander can work with a light touch and not sand too quickly - if that is what you want. If you want to remove wood quickly, just add some of your own weight of your ? evenly ? and be amazed at how fast an old surface is removed. The provided belt is #120 grit and considered ?medium? coarse. I am glad I did not start with a coarser belt like a #50 or #35 grit. The #120 removed a lot of material quickly ? even with the speed dialed to slow and using a light touch. The variable speed has a modest range: The slowest speed is only moderately slower than full speed. The speed-setting dial is nice. Set it and forget it. The belt stays centered (or wherever you set it). Many reviews of other belt sanders complain of belts that wander from side to side (or off) of the sander and/or are hard to adjust. This one stays where you set it. You can move the belt all the way to the sander?s right edge to sand a countertop up against a wall. Plenty of power: I bought the 8 Amp sander because I read that 6 amp sanders bogged down under pressure. Not this baby. 8 Amps for a 3? wide sander is a lot. Dust: The included dust filter catches most of the dust. But there is plenty still left on the work. To lessen the dust, I rigged up a 1-14? diameter hose from the sander to my Shop-Vac. This dramatically reduced the dust (Sears sells the hose extensions and adapters ? well worth the modest cost). Overall, this 8 amp sander made a good first impression. It is comfortable to hold and easy to control. The high power motor gives it a predictable nature. I recommend starting with a practice board and with slow speeds. As you get used to the sander, increase the initial coarseness and the speed.
This sander worked great to sand down my deck so it could be restained. The only issue I had once I get the right brand of belts was overheating. I had to stop and let it cool off on the bottom every 10 minutes or so. Overall a good purchase.
This belt sander seems to work flawlessly. Very little vibration and tracks well. The service I received when I picked the unit up was very superb. Since this was the first time I have used the Shop Your Way terminal a sales person easily guided me through the process.
