Needed a tool to drill several 1/2 holes into railroad ties. My battery powered drills were to weak to do the job. After looking at major brands I could not justify the cost for the 20 sum holes needed. I chose this drill , it had the power need to get the job done and at a reasonable price. Great tool !!!

I have always been a fan of Craftsman tools but this drill solidifies that fact once again. Not only does it do as advertised but it comes in a handy carrying case that most companies do not provide, a heavy duty cord and a light to let you know you are plugged in. It is dummy proof. I am a DIY type guy and I bought this to just use on a small job at the house. It has now been the reason to start other little jobs around the house. No other brand could touch the price either. Long Live Craftsman!
The drill itself works great until you can't get the bit to stay in anymore. The chuck system is total ****. I have owned the drill for a few years now but it was hardly used. Also within the first few months of owning the switch to go between hammer and drill would not stay one way or the other so I just taped it on drill. That was never a huge deal to me but now the drill is useless.
As others have reported, the switch breaks in the fully on position. This is extremely dangerous - not being able to stop a power tool! Additionally, it has low RPM (no power), the keyless chuck is not very good. I drilled two holes in cement (while the switch was still working), and the hammer action kept shaking loose the keyless chuck. (dumb combo of hammer action + keyless chuck) So, two poorly (very poorly) designed parts (the switch and the keyless chuck). I bought another brand - and man - what a difference. Lots of power, no slipping chuck and switch that works. You never realize how junky this drill is until you try another non-toy drill.
Stopped by *****, close to my home and looked at a Skil tool - ho0wever, it was just a hammer drill. They had nothing that did both hammer and drill! Being in Concord, NH.the next day, I went to Sears and found the Craftsman hammer drill. I works perfectly - lots of power and drilled into concrete as if it were butter!

After only 2 uses (Only a few holes drilled), the drill decided to continuously run even when the switch is released. Being out of warranty I took the drill apart and found that the switch melted and was not able to shut the power off. Very disappointed at craftsman...this appears to be a common problem with this drill.

Just picked up this item last night at sears right before closing time (called ahead to have it waiting for me). Since it was getting late to finish my project I waited until this afternoon to finish. I had 3 small holes that I had to drill into concrete for a new threshold for my front door. Within in seconds the drill bit kept coming loose. I stopped to tighten and it would be okay for a little while but then the drill would get EXTREMELY HOT. I had BARELY even gotten the first hole done. I finally called my sears store up and will be returning the product for my money back. Craftsman is usually a GREAT product but this one is a piece of ****!
