I wasn't sure about buying this saw, by reading some of the reviews, but when a competitors saw broke on the first day, and I had a hassle returning it, I decided to try the Craftsman based on their record. Out of the box, I had to do some adjustment - expected -, not over whelming though. Once set up, this saw is great! I works slow on thick stock, but then again, it wasn't designed for really heavy work. I would recommend this to anyone. Two improvements that I would like to see: 1. A viewing glass to check blade tracking, attached flexible light.
I have owned this saw for a few years. I use it primarily for re-sawing 4 inch wide boards to make thin stock for Christmas ornaments. I have used it to rough cut items such as Adirondack chair blanks and other odd shaped items. For the low price I have no complaints. The re-saw capacity is very limited due to motor size and saw size, but it will work fine for softer woods. I have re-sawn some dense exotics with mixed results. For my use, when space was extremely limited, the saw has been outstanding. If I were not trying to re-saw, I would see no reason to upgrade to a bigger saw. I briefly had a 9 inch band-saw made by another company that was absolutely useless. As long as expectations are reasonable, this saw will perform admirably.

I just picked it up for the store. I spent quite some time adjusting all 6 bearings. After that I was able to cut freehand a thin veneer 2" wide from a soft pine. I was impressed. Also it is very quite.
Poor/damaged packaging, missing parts (that I could fill with my own junk can), major alignment/tweaaking required, but once done seems to function quite well. A good buy but don't have it delivered.
This piece is smaller than you would expect though the size is clearly shown in spec. Plus the 3.5amp rating, this thing is only suitable for small-medium item cut (then why do I need a band saw? I assume you already had other type of saws, miter saw, table saw, circular saw, by the time you decided to add band saw..., even basic B&D jig saw does the job). The blade doesn't stay 100% vertically straight if you cut deep item or push it too hard, so think about cutting a long board, you'll see curves, and plus if it's high density wood like oak stair treads the saw will easily overload and stop in the middle of the curve, making your straight line cut even more curved after you reset the power and continue... It seems to cut soft wood like cross cut lumber very well, but then given it's width you can cut only short bars (at least one end has to be within 10in or so, and the other end cannot be too long to tip over by gravity). I'm thinking to build wood stand platform to make it support bigger (on the outside side) items. The build of the band saw seems solid quality though. So the solid build, overload protection, probably reliablity give it 5 star, while usability eats 2 stars, making the final rating only 3 star... Bottom line, if you only cut small not too thick items and don't require 100% straight/surface cut (like what table saw can do), or you just want rough cut of soft wood not exceeding the mouth width on one side, this is a very good band saw. Otherwise, if you really want to add a luxury band saw on top of your saw set, move on and spend more on more powerful and bigger ones, with any other type of power saws you can live w/o this small baby.

Good ,quality bandsaw, easy setup, cuts through a 2x4 with stock blade like butter. Like the fact there's a wide range of blade sizes you can use. Great for the money. Highly recommend!
