works for me
I don't understand all these negative reviews about being underpowered. this sander has plently of power and works great if you us it correctly.you can't use too much pressure or it will stall, but with mine i found it takes quite a bit of pressure to stall the motor.just like using a saw,you can't force it to do more than it can handle.take your time, use common sense and this tool works fine. i've been using mine for over 2 years and have had no problems of any kind with it.

Sander Underpowered
I found that this sander has an underpowered. 1/3 hp motor. Ok for hobby or light stuff only. Shields are light plastic material and mine was found cracked right out of the box. Took it back for a full refund with no problems. This sander needs at least a 3/4 hp motor and if you have to use plastic shields, it needs to be made stronger.

Craftsman isn't what it used to be.

At one time the Craftsman name stood for something. Not anymore. The components were cheap, belt tension could not be adjusted and instead of running smoothly it had a definite "thump" with every revolution which made for difficult sanding. Definitely would not recommend this. Fortunately, they readily accepted the return.

Tighten the belt to stop startup stalls!!!

It stalled on startup so I took the bottom plate off to see what was the matter. The belt was WAY too loose, hitting the housing on startup. Tightened the belt with the already provided belt tightener adjustment (opposite end of sander from on/off switch) and has been working like a dream ever since! The sander is NOT underpowered, just poorly belt-adjusted at factory.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good basic sanding station

The assembly instructions leave alot to be desired, but anyone with basic mechanical skills can put it together. The belt angle adjustment requires a hex wrench. Should have used a lever like on the table angle adjuster. Also, the backstop plate bracket needs a stop to prevent it from hitting the sanding belt. Appreciate the included hold down bolts and brackets to anchor the unit to a work surface. Unit seems to have plenty of power and didn't bog down. Finer grit on the sanding belt works great for honing the edge of tools.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

No shop should be without one

This is probably the most used tool in my shop. Very few times do I hand sand anything now. I figure a way to use it for virtually all sanding. I've had it for a long time and it still works perfect.

I make handles with it, sand down high spots on trinket boxes, make rounds on corners and even sharpened a pencil with it....

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Excellent piece of machinery!!

It is perfect for my intended use; making knives. I test drove it with the belt and disc that came with it. It did everything I threw at it without any problems. I can't wait to equip it with a belt used for sanding metal. I gave it 5 stars for ease of use, and power. The user manual said that the plate which protects the sanding disc needed to be removed to install a disc. I did not find this necessary. I have always been a big fan of craftsman tools, as was my father.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great tool for shaping wood.

This is a great tool that saves me time and effort shaping wood pieces.  I recently made several knife scales and this sander provided the means to easily perform secondary shaping after cutting the scales to rough size on my Craftsman band saw.  Changing sanding belts is an easy process.  It's a good machine to have on-call ready for use.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
