Craftsman  10 in. Digital LaserTrac® Level

Great tool perfect leveling no guessing about the bubble or whether the level is acurate.

This might be a better level, if...there are a few problems. The red laser on/off button is muy cheesy. The detent stroke is way too long, and I had diffuculty getting detent even with several tries. Finally, but only after about 5 uses, the button just caved in, literally, turned sideways and got stuck in the on position. I had to remove the battery bay and electronics module and use a fishtape to push the button back out. Secondly, the rubber end caps are a hinderance bc/ the bottoms are not level with the body bottom. The level needs to be designed so that you can butt it up next to an orthogonal flat piece and use the bottom end to draw a line with. I also agree with a comment above that contact surface is much too small. Also, it needs a toggle mode to ZERO to get back on to absoute scale without a power cycle. There is some good in this level: It was pretty cool that when I turned it upside down, the numerical readout inverted automatically. Also, the numbers are nice and big and easily readable.

I purchased this level for the convenience of its size. I'm a state inspector and inspect businesses for compliance with the state's handicap accessibility requirements. My inspections include a lot of slope and cross slope measurements. For years I've been using the craftsman digital smart level and have been very happy with that but when I saw this one in the store and it was only 10 inches long I thought it would be a lot easier to carry around with me. I've had it now for about six months and have never used it for any inspection because it never matches the reading of my original smart level and I just don't trust it. Additionally, calibrating this level accurately has proven to be impossible. At this point this level is nothing more than a novelty, worthless as far as I'm concerned for work.

Guess this level would be ok for very rough carpentry but do not expect a precision level. Readings drift at lest .2 degrees. It is NOT flat on upper or lower sides; when set on a ground surface such as a cast iron tabel saw it will rock back & forth (upper & lower sides), has less than 5% contact on a ground surface, warped & humped in the middle of it's length. When turned off & on even with magnets anchoring it to a surface the startup readings will not repeat and vary .2 to .3 degrees. Does not sound like alot but over 5 to 10 to 15 ft spans is significant. Repeatability is NOT good. Had higher hopes but then I remember now why I quit buying much Craftsman. I have a little 2" Wixey digital angle gauge ($45) I use to set blade and fence angles that runs circle around this level as far as repeatability and accuracy. I'll take this Craftsman level back for a refund. Wish I could have written a better review.

I purchased this level to use for setting up and adjusting a race car and it has worked awesome. I agree with the last review about the "relative" indicator. At the track I can set the relative zero to compensate for unlevel ground, but there is no way to tell what mode you are in so I continually turn it off and back on to be sure. I have also used it for some retaining walls and landscaping work outside and it works on all but the brightest days. A.

Well made and a great buy. The only oversight the designers did, was to not inform the user on the display that the unit was operating in the relative mode. This could lead to a mistake being made on a small angle measurement if you had accedently pushed the zero button.

I am very pleased with the performance of this level. I bought this 10" level as well as the larger model for difference projects. Both are well worth the money.

Way to go! Using mine for the same reasons as an earlier review (model railroad) but I needed a good level for other purposes, and got it!

Bought it to display the % grade on a model railroad. Works perfectly.
