Good Value for the Price
I wanted a drill press for light home workshop use (drilling wood and light metal). Didn't want to spend a mint on it, but also didn't want to buy a useless door stop. Bought this unit on sale, got a Sears card 5% discount, and redeemed shopper points to get a good price. It's better than expected for the money and is a good match for my intended uses. A few notes: HORSEPOWER: I can't measure horsepower, but power has been fine for my uses so far. Compared the nameplate current draw to published values for a few other manufacturers' 10 inch presses, and all values were very close. TABLE TILT: No handle to make this adjustment; tilting requires a wrench (or socket) and a hex wrench. WORK LIGHT: Bright and easy to aim, but I wonder how long the flexible neck will last. LASER: Easy to adjust, but requires two AAA batteries instead of being powered from the press's power cord. MANUAL: Decent for assembly and operation, and includes a good parts list and exploded diagram typical of Sears manuals. It tells how to adjust the drive belt tension, but doesn't give guidance on how to check if the belt is too tight or too loose. More info on lubricating moving parts would be helpful. It also includes a few instructions that aren't applicable to this press. CORRECTIONS TO PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: - Nameplate on press says it draws 3.2 amps, not 6 amps. - No sight window to check drive belt position ("speed setting"), but, it's easy to open the belt cover and look. - No scale marks on fence.

Underpowered
The online description for this press says "six amp motor". It is actually only a 3.2 amp motor as I found out the hard way. Chinese made, so fairly cheap quality, especially the little LED light.

10" drill press - great value

Ordered this drill press online and arrived the next day with ************* after the holidays. Assembled with ease and started without issue. Most impressed with the light and laser. Appears to have plenty of power and accuracy

Overall
junk "drill press"

This has to be about the most horrible drill press I have ever used. I have a little 12v dewalt hand drill that would blow circles around this machine. The motor can't be more than 1/4 horsepower because I'm 140 pounds an can grab the chuck at full speed an stall the motor clean out. Not even worth the effort of putting a bit in the chuck I'll rub a bit between my hands like a pilgrim first.

Good but at least one annoying problem

Good: Assembles quickly, generally well designed - well made, good value. Bad: The friction lock for the table height is very hard to use and doesn't easily lock tightly. I see this as a tolerancing/design issue. The table will often swing right/left if you don't wail on the lock screw.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Does its job

I read the reviews and decided to go for it. I don't have any huge jobs in mind for it, just some wood work for my scroll saw and maybe making some mortise holes for lodge pole furniture. First off, I'm not sure why people complain about the lasers. Mine stays on ****** no matter where I move the table height. There are two screw parts for the lasers. The smaller screw part move the laser to adjust it, then bigger ones above it to lock it in place. Maybe people don't realize this? Great feature for when I am making multiple holes on the same piece of lumber which was a big reason I got this unit...spend 5 seconds to adjust before I use and I'm good to go. Sure, they are battery operated, but when I am using it for minutes at a time the 5 hour battery life will go a long way. Bit spins true when installed with no visible wobble. Light is definitely bright enough for me. Instructions were great. Scan the table in the manual for speed settings for different materials and tape/staple it on the wall next to it to avoid opening it every time you need it. Only annoyance is minor...the lid chatters a ton when it operates. Not sure what I am going to do about it just yet, but I may just put thin insulation tape to prevent metal on metal vibration or something. Great quality, does the job and I am happy I made the purchase. The table guides are a nice plus if I need to use them too.

Gets the job done

For a small, bench-top drill press, used only for woodworking applications, this machine does a fine job. There is very little wobble in the spindle, the chuck is well-machined and holds a variety of bits firmly while being easy to adjust. The table is solid and firm, although it has a tendency to shift significantly left-and-right while being adjusted up and down. The light is a nice feature. Speed adjustments are easy and fast. I have not had a problem with power on this unit, even cutting hard maple, oak, and cherry. If your bits are sharp and you don't try to cut too fast (it's a drill, not a punch), the machine is not under-powered. Long-term performance as-yet unknown but out of the box it's a fine machine.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
