It is a good lightweight alternitive to a full sized cordless drill for most every job. It would work better if it was variable speed but the two speeds work fine when you get used to it.

This power screwdriver is just what I was looking for. It is easy to use and has lots of power to handle anything around the house. As always, Craftsman makes some of the best tools available.

The idea and the design behind this product is second to none. Love the light placement and operation (does not require the drill switch to be depressed, thus you can find a screwhead before you start the driver). Great torque set operation. Nice angle adjustment. Lightweight. the case and included bits are super handy and well built. But, all of that depends on the heart of the machine, because if that doesn't work, nothing else, no matter how well thought out and done, is going to mean a thing. The old-fashioned NiCd batteries that the engineers insist on still using in these otherwise well designed devices are virtually useless, effectively negating any other positives. I've had my driver for 5 years or so and I've never gone to use it but what it wasn't deader than a doornail. Now, even if I put it on the charger overnight, within a day after coming off the charger, it's gone to pot again. And to think they still haven't wised up enough to stick lithium batteries in this thing; still selling it with NiCads to unsuspecting customers. I've got another Costco "special" driver, by Channel Lock, that has lithium 4 volt batteries, and it hasn't been charged for a year, literally; It is always ready to go when I need it. Ditto for my lithium powered Skil driver. The Craftsman is a better overall design, but c'mon... NiCads? Really Sears?

I bought this driver in February and use it every day at work. We had 2 other of these at work so I figured it would be a good driver. About 1 month after I purchased mine the other 2 at work started to have battery charging issues. They would not hold a charge. Now after 5 months mine is acting up. It used to last a full day but now it's only lasting a few hours before it dies. I faithfully put it on the charger every night before I leave so it's not like I'm running it all the way down. I'm going to get it replaced under the warranty. Figure that one will last until the warranty runs out. Plan on getting another brand when this driver dies. Other then this issue and the missing light switch feature mentioned by other reviewers, I do like this driver. But the sub-standard battery that is not replaceable puts it in the "dispose in 1 year" category. I prefer a tool that lasts several years. I will still recommend this product to anyone who has no qualms with replacing it within a year.

I purchased a locking collet from my local hardware store and attached it to the magentic collet by adding a set screw into the side, located the set screw so that it engaged the groove of the locking collet hex stem. Without a locking collect, it is worthless for use in drilling pilot holes. It is interesting to note that the tool comes with two locking screwdriver bits but does have a locking collet. Sears went too far in trying to achieve a certain price point on this tool and cost reduction went too deep. My old Sears screwdriver did have a locking collet but the battery will no longer hold a charge.
