I purchased this router along with a craftsman router table and a box of craftsman router bits for a project I was working on. Everything went fairly smooth until I went to put a bit in the router. The bits that I wanted to use (3/8" round over) will not fit in the router sub plate that comes with the router. I went online to order a different sub plate with a larger hole and the only one I could find is the 6 piece set and come to find out that it is ONLY sold in Canada and they will NOT ship to the USA. In fact if you buy this router (or any router for that fact) from Sears and buy the bits you will not be able to use the larger bits because they are too big for the plate. They do not sell another plate in the U.S. I am not totally sure what they expect us to do. I did manage to get the 6 piece plate set but it was only because I know someone in Canada and I had it shipped to them and then they in turn shipped it to me. Unless you have a drill press and want to make your own plates I would suggest buying a DeWalt or Bosch or one of the name brands that actually sell plates in the U.S.
I always liked Craftsman tools and am in the market for a new table saw, but I think I may shop elsewhere for my tools from now on, customer service on the phone was useless as well, overall I was completely dissatisfied with this experience!
I used the router on over 600 board feet of select pine on my router table. I create v groove tongue and groove 1 by 8 planks. The router ran great was easy to micro adjust, never heated up of bound on knots.
I bought a Craftsman router about 1 1/2 years ago. At the time I didn't have a big project going so I barely used it. Now after just getting into a project, the router failed--and I was using on OSB, so there shouldn't have much strain on it. I will never again buy a Craftsman power tool. They won't stand behind them at all.
I purchased this item because I required a larger collet ,(1/2"), for several of my router bits. I own two other Craftsman routers, and they perform great. The soft start when the router is powered up, makes it easy to hold onto, and easer to guide into the work piece. The three LED lights do a great job of illuminating the cutter as you feed it into the wood. The clear plastic shields work great to keep wood chips and dust out of you eyes. The 2HP is more than enough power to allow you to feed the cutter into the work piece fast enough to prevent burning the wood. The depth adjustment leaves a little to be desired. My older two routers have a better adjustment system, that allows adjustments in small increments that are very accurate. I had a difficult time setting the cutter depth using the device as the instruction suggest. I had to zero the cutter bit with the base, and use a scale to set the depth. I like this router, because of the soft start, power, work light, collet size, and the two bases, the fixed base, and the plunge base. This router did what I required on my project, and did it well. I would definitely recommend this produce to anyone requiring a router.

I have an older sears router (10 yrs w/ only switch replacement ), fixed base that i decided to upgrade. In combo I also purchased the pro router table and cabinet. The combo works perfect together as the fixed based is mounted to the table and the plunge is for outside work. Though my other router works fine, this combo has many other new features. The soft start is fantastic as it doesn't want to jump out of your hands like the older one. Inlays are a breeze and the vacuum adapter is a welcome plus. I had no problems as other reviewers stated. Adjustments are more precise, and overall use is just easy. Switching from table to plunge is just a flip of the lever and a button. With variable speed, micro adjust, etc, you can't go wrong for this price.
Bought this to replace a much older Craftsman with a collet problem, The two collets supplied with this are much more substantial AND replaceable. Soft start works well, work light is good. Depth adjustment is a bit fiddly, not to be depended on for accuracy but stable once clamped. No trouble with bit insertion or removal.

I bought this router on sale and used gift cards. It was kind of an impulse buy as I do not need it much yet. I cut out a hole in a countertop for a sink and routed the edge. Worked great. Now I just need to find time to use it more extensively

Over a two day period, I talked to more than ten people at Sears/Craftsman in order to identify the name and usage of a prominent part on this router. I failed. I could never find anyone who could help me. Since I have never used a router , and since I don't want to injure myself or damage the machine, I'll have to keep looking.
