I purchased this router along with a craftsman router table and a box of craftsman router bits for a project I was working on. Everything went fairly smooth until I went to put a bit in the router. The bits that I wanted to use (3/8" round over) will not fit in the router sub plate that comes with the router. I went online to order a different sub plate with a larger hole and the only one I could find is the 6 piece set and come to find out that it is ONLY sold in Canada and they will NOT ship to the USA. In fact if you buy this router (or any router for that fact) from Sears and buy the bits you will not be able to use the larger bits because they are too big for the plate. They do not sell another plate in the U.S. I am not totally sure what they expect us to do. I did manage to get the 6 piece plate set but it was only because I know someone in Canada and I had it shipped to them and then they in turn shipped it to me. Unless you have a drill press and want to make your own plates I would suggest buying a DeWalt or Bosch or one of the name brands that actually sell plates in the U.S.
I always liked Craftsman tools and am in the market for a new table saw, but I think I may shop elsewhere for my tools from now on, customer service on the phone was useless as well, overall I was completely dissatisfied with this experience!

I have an older sears router (10 yrs w/ only switch replacement ), fixed base that i decided to upgrade. In combo I also purchased the pro router table and cabinet. The combo works perfect together as the fixed based is mounted to the table and the plunge is for outside work. Though my other router works fine, this combo has many other new features. The soft start is fantastic as it doesn't want to jump out of your hands like the older one. Inlays are a breeze and the vacuum adapter is a welcome plus. I had no problems as other reviewers stated. Adjustments are more precise, and overall use is just easy. Switching from table to plunge is just a flip of the lever and a button. With variable speed, micro adjust, etc, you can't go wrong for this price.
Bought this to replace a much older Craftsman with a collet problem, The two collets supplied with this are much more substantial AND replaceable. Soft start works well, work light is good. Depth adjustment is a bit fiddly, not to be depended on for accuracy but stable once clamped. No trouble with bit insertion or removal.

I bought this router on sale and used gift cards. It was kind of an impulse buy as I do not need it much yet. I cut out a hole in a countertop for a sink and routed the edge. Worked great. Now I just need to find time to use it more extensively

Over a two day period, I talked to more than ten people at Sears/Craftsman in order to identify the name and usage of a prominent part on this router. I failed. I could never find anyone who could help me. Since I have never used a router , and since I don't want to injure myself or damage the machine, I'll have to keep looking.
I purchased this router to support my revived hobby of woodworking. I've been pretty impressed with the power of this router. It can be attached to a router table, or used manually with either the plunger or fixed base.
Router bit adjustment above table. Vertical movement (no rotation of body). Easy release and drop from table when used with plunge assembly. Release of screws was easy using reverse drill driver and modest clutch action. The light, soft start and adjustable speed are very desirable features. the Plunge assembly will also allow over table adjust, although I prefer leaving the fixed base assembly at the table. I "studied" a lot regarding routers (a newbie).... I really like this unit. I use it with the aluminum router table. Highly recommended.
Lots of bang for your buck. Very solid feel, great power. I looked for a long time and didn't find anything else that had this good of amp/hp AND came with two bases. Very excited about this purchase! (As is my neighbor who can't wait ti borrow it.)
I used this to route some door hinge and strike plate mortices for the first time using a Sears kit, and it worked great. The only complaint was the manual and how it described the process of setting the depth of the router bit. It referred to two diagrams with letter labeled parts, but did not state which diagram it referred to when stating the part letter, and both diagrams had the same parts labeled with different letters. Also, the steps were slightly wrong. It said to lock the base and then to adjust the fine adjust ****, which can't be adjusted with the base locked, then said to lock it again later. I had to study this for an hour to make sense out of it. Other than that it is a great router.
