WOW!!! I am not a big fan of “cordless” tools because the batteries constantly need recharging in the middle of a job. Knowing this about me, my wife bought an extra battery to keep in the charger while the other one was in use. I spent the afternoon in my shop, first getting used to the Craftsman 12 Volt Nextec Lithium-Ion Hammerhead and then using it on several little projects requiring small nails. Before I realized it, the afternoon was gone and I was still using the first battery without a noticeable decrease in the power of the Hammerhead. I was amazed and may be a convert to more cordless tools if it continues to work this well in my cordless tools; all two of them. :-)
Of my three Nextec 12v lithium-ion battery packs, two failed within 4 months after only very light use. The third battery pack has worked fine for over a year. Inside the battery packs are three 4 volt batteries and all three must charge to deliver the 12 volts required to run my drill. In my two battery packs that failed, all three of the 4 volt batteries were not charging properly. In one case, only one battery was charging giving me 4 volts output and in the other, two of them were charging for 8 volts when using the Nextec charger that was supplied with my drill. When I charged the Nextec battery packs with a variable voltage electronic power supply set to a maximum voltage of 12.6 volts, a maximum current of 500 ma, and a maximum charge duration of 2 hours, the "failed" battery packs charged to the full 12 volts and would again run my drill. Since my Nextec charger works fine with my 3rd Nextec battery pack, I have concluded that the charger that came with my drill is O.K,, but that there are defects in the safe charging circuitry that is built into my two defective battery packs. I do not recommend that others try my technic for charging their Nextec batteries because lithium ion batteries can explode if you do not know how to properly charge them. I am an electrical engineer with expertise in this field. I do recommend that Craftsman investigate and fix the defect in their Nextec batteries, especially in view of so many complaints about them.

I have all the Nextec tools, and totally satisfied with all, except for the saws. But the batteries seem to last a while.

Excellent battery, but I ordered one extra as mine seems to run down rapidly, but maybe I am using to high an RPM, I will probably buy a 3rd battery. Good part is that a full charge is reached in about 30 minutes or less.

I have one tool, 2 batteries and one charger. Both batteries currently run the drill but neither can be charged. The charger gives a blinking green light for about 5 seconds and then changes to blinking red (defective battery). If I wait a day and try again, one of the batteries shows blinking green and then solid green (charged?) but the other still shows as defective. A day later, the first battery again show as defective. Could it be both of my batteries failed at the same time (both are replacements of batteries that acted the same way)? Or could it be the charger is defective? If it's the charger, I don't mind spending $30 for the newer boost charger; maybe that will work better. But I've never had a charger fail for any of my other battery tools. If it's the batteries, I'm going to toss the whole system and go to another brand... I can't keep buying batteries forever! ANY COMMENTS? PLEASE...

I have three Nextec tools with 4 batteries. one lasted one charge - NO lights on charger, 2nd one lasted six months - does not hold charge - charger says full charge - will not power tool. 3rd one will only charge by clamping into charger. 4th one works like it should. Previous reviews from two years ago state the same problem without any fix. These were gifts, so no receipt. I can not find any remedy to this problem except buy more batteries and hope I get good one, or exchange the bad ones quickly.

I have three Nextec tools which I really like, however of the two battery packs I own one has died within a few months. The battery was well looked after (and these are lithium based) so should provide years of service. I will not be adding any more Nextel tools.
