I bought this to cut steel tube and angle iron. 2" x 1/8" square tube is really pushing the motor to the limit. I've had the unit for a couple weeks and it's hanging in there for light hobby work. Construction is of typical Chinese mass produced for lowest possible cost variety. Even though I'm just using it for hobby projects, if I had to buy again I'd spring the extra money for a higher quality model, probably a steel carbide blade version in order to get clean cuts. These abrasive chop saws make sparks like the fourth of July and heat the metal red hot.

The Craftsman 14" Abrasive Chop Saw with Laser TracŪ (21289) is a good product for the price. That is to say, it is not the most expensive and not a Rolls Royce. The only cons are, A floppy blade guard. Everything else is just fine. Its function is otherwise flawless. One hint though, before trying to align the laser, unbolt it then bolt it right back in place. Otherwise, you may waste a LOT of time trying to get the alignment right. Apparently, the laser is prone to movement, if bumped, during shipment. If you need a chop saw for hobby use, this is it. Sincerely Michael

I've used it several times to cut everything from thin-walled tubing to 3/8" plate steel. I'm just a hobbyist, not a professional fabricator, but it works well for me.

The motor is a little under-powered. Cutting 2 X 4 11 ga mild steel tubing, no matter how fast or slow I made the downward cut, the disc would bow out and not give scquare cuts. The chain to secure the upper assembly was weak and thin. This might be good for some low end conduit or angle iron work, but not for moderate to serious fabricating.
