As others have said, it's not a bad value for the price. But I expected a tad more from Craftsman. After re-assembling the column about 4 times, I just settled that the metal rod with the teeth in it that moves the table up and down is going to be loose. Even secured in the metal ring, I can jiggle it pretty freely. Bc of that, the teeth inside the table don't grab well. It won't always slide up and down with a simple crank of the handle like it should. The laser is nice, but forget about being practical. If you have to adjust the table at all, you'll have to readjust the laser. Pretty disappointing. I saw a used, 100% identical model in a pawn shop a few weeks back. The column, metal bar and ring, and table all jiggled exactly the way mind do. So I figured I assembled it right and the design is just not great. Instructions left quite a bit to be desired too. Lastly, another reviewer mentioned the top cover being loose and loud, which is very true. Spindle depth of 3.2 inches is totally disappointing, but I didn't check that before I bought it. Can't even drill through a 4x4 post without moving the table up halfway through. But hey, it does drill good and straight!!

The box is relatively compact, about 3'x2'x8", but heavy of course. Assembly but easy, but quite oily, as everything is coated with oil to protect from rust. I only had trouble with the chuck. It is a friction fit with morse taper. The first time I installed the chuck it wobbled BADLY! I was able to remove it with the supplied tool (not a good sign) and re-fit it a 2nd time. This time there was much less wobble, but still slightly detectable. As another reviewer mentioned, the chuck does not allow smaller than ~7/64" bit. The shape of the jaws prevents closing down on any smaller bit. The pulley/belt cover vibrates ALOT! The result is a clanking cover, especially at high speeds. I removed the small **** that creates an inadequate friction fit close of the cover, and used the existing threaded hole in the retaining clip to secure a metric 5mm screw to tighten the cover. This worked well, but I may add some foam cushioning to further quiet the cover. The LED light is GREAT! The laser cross hair is gimicky. The limited chuck, the pulley cover and the slight wobble cost a star in my opiinion.

The box for this press is relatively compact at ~3'x2'x8", but HEAVY of course (138 pounds). Assemble was pretty smooth, but quite oily, as most parts have a coating of oil to protect from rust. My only problem was with fitting the chuck, a morse taper friction fit unit. The first time I fit it the wobble was TERRIBLE! I was able to remove the chuck without the supplied tool (not a good thing). I was more careful to make a good fit by feel the next time and the wobble was drastically reduced, but not eliminated entirely. The pulley/belt housing vibrates ALOT, especially at high speeds. This resulted in a loud clanking since the cover doesn't close very firmly. I removed the supplied **** on the cover and used a 5mm screw into the already-tapped securing clip. This helped quite a bit, but I may still add some foam stripping to quiet the housing further. The chuck does not allow bits smaller than ~7/64", as mentioned by another reviewer. This is due to the shaping of the chuck jaws, and is very limiting to me. I am forced to use hex-shaft bits in the smaller sizes or replace the chuck. The press operates very well. The LED light is GREAT! The laser LED crosshair is gimicky. All in all, I am happy with the press. I did take a star for the chuck limitation, the wobble and the pulley vibration.

This drill press is an outstanding value for the money. There is no detectable spindle play so that drilling is extremely accurate. It includes a 3/4 HP motor that provides more than enough torque required for heavy duty, low RPM work and includes an adjustable work light as well as a dual beam laser assembly to make hole location easy and accurate. My only complaint is that the chuck will not close down small enough to accept a drill bit smaller than 7/64". It would cost Sears nothing additional to supply a standard industrial chuck, instead of the one presently supplied, that would accept smaller drill bits. Since I had another chuck at home with the exact same taper, I used mine instead and place the new Craftsman chuck in my junk bin. Other than my above complaint about the poorly designed chuck, this drill press is flawless, far better than those no name brands that have all sorts of spindle play making accurate drilling impossible. Good job, Craftsman. But, please change the chuck.
Went together easy. Works great. Did find that the box it came in is not the best material. Box had damage, the dock man opened the box and everything appeared find. When I put the drill press together I noticed the housing the switch was in was mashed. Contacted Sears and in about 2 minutes I had a new switch box being sent to me. While better than having to return the whole press it was a little disappointing that it anything was wrong in the first place. Packaging could be better.
Haven't really had a chance to use the product as yet; but had to have someone out to fix it as the fan in the back of the motor was hitting the wall and sounded like it was falling about. Seas fixed it and it is now running smoothly.
