My Favorite Tool! (Toy?)
I bought the 16Gal Wet/Dry Vac w/blower in Dec 06 just before moving into a new house- thinking it would be nice to have a utility vac for indoor/outdoor use, car cleaning etc. It quickly became a lifesaver as our basement flooded and I was able to quickly clean out the place with the strong suction and usefool tool assortment. The detachable blower acts as a nice "dryer" by just setting it on a floor without attachments. It will dry about a 2x5 space in 5-10 minutes, and I've left the blower on for hours without any trouble. The detachable "blower" is a cool funtion and is quite powerful- great for blowing leaves around, out of gutters etc. The 16Gallon capacity is just right. When full of water, it's quite heavy to lift up to a sink etc. There is a removable plug to drain outside or into a floor drain to make that easier. This Fall (07) I purchased the optional gutter cleaning kit and easily cleaned out my gutters. With my existing vac assortment, the gutter pack allows me to reach heights of 10-15 feet above ground, so I can reach most spots just standing on the ground. I share it with my neighbors and am a local hero with that little $20 add-on. This December 07, the Vac was again called into service as we got another "storm of the century" in Seattle. Again clearing water and blowing dry- hours of continuous operation without trouble. Like many Sears products, this item cycles in and out of sales pricing. I bought mine at a great price, well below the standard list price today, so if you can wait a bit...you might be able to catch a great deal; but if you can't, I would say it's worth the full $120.

as blower, won't last long
This product as a great idea, nearly well executed. I loved mine for a few months. If you use it predominantly as a shop vac it's fine. Use it as a blower and you'd better only ever blow leaves in one direction. The issue is that the impeller is made of flimsy aluminum. At those very high revs, as you swing the blower around, as you have to, the gyroscopic forces on that impeller stress it. The impeller will shear off 1/2" from the axis. I can be pretty confident in predicting that because it happened to me twice. How twice? When the rigid one broke, short both a vac and a blower, I went and bought a Craftsman. When that broke within months, I recognized the identacle impeller on taking that one apart too. I presume Home Depet/Rigid re-brands Craftsman items or they have a common manufacturer. It was opportunistic of both companies to make the motor a detachable blower, but they should have re-engineered the impeller for the different manner of use. Pity. Great idea but like a chain is as strong as the weakest link, with that flimsy impeller I have 32 gallons of landfill and a story to tell.

Unreliable

Bought this wet/dry & blower in order to not have two tools (all-in-one) in my shed. Well I have mainly used it as a leave blower for the last 4 months and it has work fine until I used it to clean up my shed and vacuum sawdust and other debris. After about an hour or so of vacuuming the unit would not turn on. After several attempts to let it cool down (just a thought) still the same results, nothing. Lucky I purchase the extended warranty even though the unit is only 6 months old. Either way I wait for my store credit to try it again.

Yes, it really does two things well

I generally don't like tools that try to be two things at the same time. But for my purposes, This blower/vac combination is excellent. I had the previous generation model of this vac until it failed nearly 15 years later. This unit seems even nicer. Super powerful motor. Highly recommended.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Best

I had this vac for 15 years and will still suck the paint off a wall! The blower is just as good, I can't find a gas one with the same velocity! Unlike Shop Vac brand I don't get dust blowing everywhere in my shop when I'm cleaning up. If you need a good vac, this is the one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
This has been an excellent vacuum

This vacuum has been a real workhorse.  It's very reliable and I really don't know of any complaints.  I purchased this same model about 2007 and mine still works great.  Even though I haven't had the opportunity to do much "wet" vacuuming, I can attest that the power of this unit is very sufficient for dry vacuuming.

I started remodeling a 1928 home that required a lot of demolition and cleanup.  This vacuum has been used to suck up dirt, saw dust, concrete remnants, tile, nails, blown-in insulation and more.  My vacuum has been drug around and torchured yet continues to run well as long as the filter is cleaned/replaced.

I'm cheap so I reuse my filters for a very long time.  When the suction starts to deteriorate, I know it is time to clean the filter.  Open the unit up, remove the filter and convert the vacuum head to a blower - just go outside or to an open window and blow out the filter yourself.  I think I am on my 3rd filter now after almost 6 years?  This may not be recommended, but it's what I do.

I also use the blower all year to clean off my sidewalk after edging and to blow leaves and yard scraps out of the yard and blow out my garage.  It has sufficient power for my needs and gets the job done.  It really is a great unit.

My squeegee attachment did break over time, but I was using it on hardwood floors with staples and nails sticking out.  My other attachments are very worn now and probably should be replaced, as well as the hoses, but since they still work, I keep on using them (minus the squeegee head).

The unit is on the loud side, but I think it's to be expected and I don't mind.  A set of ear protectors solves that problem, and that's only if you're indoors someplace like an empty room that echos a lot.

All-in-all, a GREAT vacuum - at least mine has been!

Thanks Craftsman!

double duty shop vac

This blower has the power to do the job. Using in the garage suck up a small cresent wrench by accident. When it comes to blowing it is simple button and the motor detaches to blow leaves and small sticks 265 mph away.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
