I have owned now for five years in Kansas. Our mower has had zero issues with heavy use. Bag works great, starts on first pull every time, it has plenty of power for both wet grass and thick fescue, and it does great on hills and inclines. Also its easy to mow with. Another great Craftsman mower and Honda engine.

Nothing really bad to say. Worked great out of the box. My grass was about 5 inches tall in some spots and the machine would stall if I didn't back off. I'd buy a rear wheel propelled machine next time because front wheel drive slips a lot. The catcher is easy to install but harder to remove when machine is on low cut setting. I think it's priced high for the value though. I researched many machines and was looking for a machine with a honda motor that was affordable. This was all I could find. With 3 year warranty I paid 400$ out the door.
The high rear wheels makes it easy to turn. The handle is sturdy. Motor starts with one pull. Fairly powerful with self-propelled engaged. Blade cuts really well and the grass catcher is easy to remove and replace and dumps grass easily.
Desperate for a new lawnmower after 16 years. Chose this model for several reasons, the mower I'm replacing has the Honda 160cc motor and still starts and runs like a champ so a definite plus on this model. The handle is along the lines of what I want because I have fairly small hands and mow a little over 1/2 acre once a week. When I got this mower home and tried it out it started easily with one pull and cut the grass quickly and easily. Unfortunately I found that the bag does not seat correctly to the body of the mower and grass and dust were everywhere. I immediately called Sears and they told me to bring the mower in. They were great - we looked at all the options for this mower, exchanging for a new mower of the same model, a completely different mower, etc. If you don't bag your clippings this is a great mower.

After having this same mower for 10 years, we needed to replace it. We literally brought 3 different ones home - all had some defect - guard didn't line up and dragged, cables bent/cut, etc. Had to purchase a different brand.
I bought this mower and liked it. It was a little slow on hills. But after two years and three months the engine was ready to explode. When I tried to start it the mower made a screening noise. I took it into the Sears shop and the tech said the motor needed to be replaced. Three months after the warranty expired. I had always checked the oil kept it clean and did not use it in any strange way. Planned obsolescence ?
Ten years ago I purchased a similar model from Sears and it ran smoothly and effortlessly for those 10 years. Other than standard maintenance, the only thing that had to be replaced were the tires after 9 years. I am in Florida and our weather requires weekly mowing for most of the year and every other week for a short duration during the cooler moths. My past positive experience influenced my purchase of this mower this past week to replace the great machine that I had such good luck with, thinking that I would receive an equivalent mower, the specs seemed to match. The motor was the same and does seem to start easily and run fine, but that is where the similarity's end. This mower is made of much thinner metals and uses much more plastic. The handle does not fold easily as suggested, parts must be removed. The back wheels are only somewhat larger than the front. While mowing using the mulching set- up grass and debris blow up at the user from under the machine and in between the cover flap and the deck, The bag blows dust. The handle is quite uncomfortable. The wheels do not appear to have any ball bearings, just plastic on metal and manufactured with very thin plastic. The most distressing issue with this mower for me was the wheel adjustment levers. If you never need to change your settings you'll be fine, but if you need to change them frequently, as I do, from front to back yard, you will be frustrated, unless you have very large hands. The back levers are very short and extremely difficult to manipulate unless you can grab the lever and tire at the same time that you lift the mower with the other hand. I ended up having to extend the levers past the tires so that I could make the necessary adjustments. This mower is cheaply manufactured and even if the engine lasts I do not expect to get more than a year or two before parts break or wear off. Shame on sears, this will be my last craftsman mower. Such a disappointment!
