Great Mower for the money!

I bought this mower to replace a 12 year old similar craftsman that is still running strong but was moved to our rental house.  I like the easy starting but the handle could be better, the bag could be larger and the width between tires should have been the same front and rear.  The mower doesn't track well. This isn't a problem unless you have to mow up against a surfaces or your tires have to follow eachother in a deep mow strip.  I guess I will have to give another review after a year or two.

4 months old...in for service a 2nd time
The first 3 months and 2 weeks were great .... good feeling mower, able to handle my medium-ish urban yard well. I have a hill in the front that has to be almost a 60 degree incline (about 40 ft of frontage), so power assist has been key. Then about a month ago, the mower died in the middle of a mow. Still had gas in the tank, nothing unusual, just died. Cue the Sears service team ... took the mower to my local Sears and 10 days later, had it back with a new carburetor. Pulled the cord to start, mowed for about 2 minutes (engine running unevenly the whole time), then the mower died again. Just dropped the mower off - again - at Sears for service. This time, they put a $40 charge on my card for a repair under warranty. Not sure what that was all about, but there's not much choice since they have to do the repair. I bought the mower because it was a Craftsman with a Honda engine, but the reliability has been unacceptable. You may be better advised to look elsewhere.

Good Value

I've used this mower over a dozen times since purchasing it (at a great sale price) in April. It has always started on the first pull. Good traction and I prefer its front-wheel drive. You can backup this mower just by pushing down on the handle and lifting the front wheels off the ground. The one negative is the handle. As others have mentioned, it is uncomfortable. I've found wearing cotton gloves helps.

Best mower ever

I average about 5 hours a week mowing my yard and my parents'. After well over a year with this mower and 35 years of trying different brands with Briggs & Stratton motors, I can say this one is the "best I've ever had" and I'll always buy a Honda-powered motor in the future. I love how the choke works, the accessibility of the adjustments and the always ready-to-run Honda engine. My wife says this mower and I are like the Engergizer bunny : ) Planned obsolescene: The fatal flaw with all non-commercial high-wheelers I've ever owened is that the back wheels have plastic hubs, so if you have to mow up and down major drainage ditches along a state highway like I do, then be prepared to replace one or both of the wheels every year or two.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Good mulcher/cutter but heavy & loud

Bought this cause Discover was giving addl 10% off in early May. Good: 1) Starts with one pull 2) Nice looking black gangster 3) Great mulcher - can't see any grass clippings but grass is shorter! 4) Big rear wheels help handling 5) Honda engine Bad: 1) Heavy deck that self propell doesn't help out all the time 2) Loud - honda engine surprisingly is loud 3) Front wheel drive - doesn't help with weight issues or maneuverability 4) Plastic wheels - wondering when those will give out Undecided: 1) grass catcher bag - have not used - so no feedback on dust issues 2) reliability - no data yet but past craftsman mowers/tractors have lasted a long time. Summary - I bought this product based on immediate needs, Discover discount, availability, Honda engine & Craftsman reputation. However, upon usage I see this is only an average product with average performance. You get what you pay for...shoulda saved up for a complete Honda.

Best Purchase ever!

You won't go wrong with this mower, Honda engine and a powerful Craftsman body. WOW, that's all I can say! I owned an old 21" push mower and it used to take me over an hour to mow my lawn (about 1/4 of an acre) With this Mower I was done in 45 minutes, even though my grass was so long after a week of continuous rain. No problem, this mower sailed right through it. I simply love it!

don't ignore this

they definitely don't make them like the used. had a craftsman for 15 years then bought this one..bad idea. cut fine for 2 times this spring then without any notice the left front wheel assembly rotated all the around. Looked underneath and the small washer and clip that holds the assembly unto the wheel broke! now cant use the unit since its front wheel drive...wast of money. Take a look at the front assembly before you buy..very cheaply made.

Wow!! Great Mower

Starts on first pull every time. Leaves yard looking great with nice, clean cut. Strong engine pushes through the tall stuff with ease and uses very little gas compared to my 10 yr old Craftsman Briggs and Stratton. The only problem is when bagging it leaves me covered in dust but still the best mower I've ever had.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
