Perfect for my use
I did quite a bit of research before buying this saw. In general, there are two categories of scroll saws. One group consists of saws in the $100.00 to $150.00 range, which many reviewers label as "bad" saws, and the second group consists of saws from $400.00 on up, which most reviewers label as "good" saws. Since I don't earn a living by using a scroll saw I quickly eliminated all of the good saws, leaving me to pick from the bad saws. From reading many reviews, I decided that this was the best of the bad saws. I own and use a variety of power tools, including a band saw, and the woodworking projects I do are mainly crafts projects using wood from 1/4" to 1" thick. I recently started building wooden toys, and there are occasions where I could have used a scroll saw. For example, I tried cutting out a square window for the side of a truck by using a coping saw but the result was less than desirable. With this scroll saw I can easily accomplish that task. So far, this saw has served my needs perfectly. I haven't mounted the saw to the workbench or to a piece of wood; I simply placed it on a rubber mat on the workbench. Yes, it does vibrate somewhat, but not enough to make me mount it. So for my purpose, it's a great saw and I would highly recommend it. However, if you make your living by using a scroll saw then nothing will suffice but a high priced "good" saw.

Doesn't work well with plain end blades
I struggled for 2 hours to get this to hold plain end blades. It simply won't hold the really small ones. The design for holding plain end blades is very bad. As you screw in the hold down screw, it torques the holder so far to the right, the blade comes right out. If I had a third hand, maybe it would work. It handled pin-end blades just fine. However, I took the saw back to Sears, and it won't handle 1/2 of the blades it says it handles. Brad

a beginners dream

This is a fantastic saw for a beginning user.It is a heavyweight saw which seems to cut down on vibration.Might need to be fine-tuned out of the box, but then it's ready to cut.A great buy for the woodworking hobbyist or craftsman.Cuts a nice line in soft or hard wood.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good Value for the Money

This saw is a good value for low end scroll saws. For hundreds of dollars more, you can get a higher quality saw. It works well for small projects. The saw will vibrate unless you secure to a bench or table. I attached it to a piece of plywood which is then clamped to my work bench. Nice and light so it is easily moved to a shelf for storage. My biggest complaint is changing the blade. Difficult but I am getting better but still not at 15 second job as it should be. Dust removal hose doesn't work well but that is not a huge issue for me.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good as expected

As many people will tell you, there are two classes of scroll saws: "good" and "bad". Saws that fall into the good range are about 3 times the cost of the bad saws or more. Being a hobby woodworker I can neither justify or afford a good saw so after looking at many reviews for the lower priced saws I went with this one. I have not had the opportunity to do many projects with the saw yet but the couple that I have done involved many turns and tight corners. The only complaint that I have about the saw is the way that the blades are contained. Pin style blades are held by flat surfaces on each end. This method of holding the blades allows the blades to turn slightly during corner or radius cuts. The saw makes these cuts but you have to pay attention to the direction of your blade. That being said I would buy this saw again as it allows me to do everything I want to do with it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Bad experience

I bought this saw because of the good reviews and the fact that I have used craftsman tools for over 50 years and had good luck most of the time. This purchase was money wasted. I have used the saw twice for about 30 min. and now it will not run.
