My 10 year old wanted to make his own jigsaw dragon, for a friend at school, he met an artist at an art fair that that made these incredible animal jig saw puzzles. For 2 months he has been waiting patiently. unfortunately my handheld craftsman scroll saw did not do the job. Grandpa bought this saw, and let us get to work, He quickly picked it up and after 4 hours of intense patience, 3 broken blades and learning the tricks of managing speed and pressure he had a dragon. Under his guidance his younger brother, did his own scroll saw bunny. This is an excellent for beginners. (of course this is all done under close adult supervision)
I caught the scroll saw on sale for around $100.00 about 2 weeks ago. I have used this saw for cutting wood from 1/8" to a full 4/4. It did the job I demanded from it with no problems. The only thing I would say negative about this saw is I wish the table was bigger. That is why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Once again Sears you didn't disappoint!
After doing some research on this Saw, I decided to purchase this Craftsman Saw that was not too expensive. Something just to start out with since I don't have that much experience using them. The Saw came with a blade already attached and ready to use. After reading the manual, I decided to try and do something simple just to start out with. I've found that the blade should have more support. It seems that it will flex real easy. The dust blower is not all that great. It's more of a suction device than anything. It seems to vibrate more at faster speeds, even with clamps. The speed adjustment works good. Craftsman should provide a light for close work. Had to rig my own. The Angle adjustment for the table is a bit stiff, but after it getting some use, it should smooth out. Replacement of the blade went well. Just do what it say's. Wish the table would have adjustment up and down to work closer to the blade. For the price I think that this is a decent saw to start out with. You have to start somewhere. I have quite a few Craftsman tools and have never had one fail me, at all!

This is a great saw for the price. As a beginner I wanted something inexpensive and easy to learn on. It feels safe. The blades are easy to install. Good product.

not very stable even when bolted to a table. the air blower is completly useless as it uses only the distortion of the air produced by the back end up of the shaft. not nearly effecient enough to literally blow a hair a decemeter away from it's original position. though not nessicary, a usesable feature commonly seen with most craftsman saws would be to add a laser guide. a simple 1 degree off on such tight radious turns makes a huge world of difference the further out the cut it. i wont return the item but as soon as it goes out ( much like my spelling aptitude ) i will defenitly search for a better item where at least the features are well thought of or at leas function usefully.
This is what I expected. I saw a review on Scrollsaw Workshop and this is one of the best entry level saws available. So far living up to expectations.
Have used saw several times on 1" pine, 2" spruce and laun. Have had no problems cutting any of the above. I have used both pinned and non-pinned blades for various projects and have had no issues whatsoever with changing them. I have also used round blades (they cut in both directions) which also function well. I have yet to break a blade.
