Product Description

16" Variable Speed Saw Provides Powerful Performance

This Craftsman Scroll Saw not only measure a whopping 16 inches from blade to throat but also proves that it's not the size of the tool but rather what you can do with it that wins out in nearly every situation. This variable speed saw provides from 400 to 1600 strokes per minute, giving you the versatility you need to cut through soft and hard woods, as well as plastic and soft metals. A large cast iron work table with up to 45-degree tilt also allows you to really expand your bag of tricks with fancy moves like bevel cutting.

This 16" Variable Speed Saw was made with the understanding that after all that hard work, no one has the energy to clean up a big mess. Fortunately, the multi-directional dust blower on this Craftsman scroll saw does the dirty work for you, keeping the cutting line free of dust and debris so you can focus all your energy on precision. Make the rest of cleanup a breeze by utilizing the shop vac-compatible dust extraction port and stashing your extra blades in the convenient on-board storage.

Perfect for my use
I did quite a bit of research before buying this saw. In general, there are two categories of scroll saws. One group consists of saws in the $100.00 to $150.00 range, which many reviewers label as "bad" saws, and the second group consists of saws from $400.00 on up, which most reviewers label as "good" saws. Since I don't earn a living by using a scroll saw I quickly eliminated all of the good saws, leaving me to pick from the bad saws. From reading many reviews, I decided that this was the best of the bad saws. I own and use a variety of power tools, including a band saw, and the woodworking projects I do are mainly crafts projects using wood from 1/4" to 1" thick. I recently started building wooden toys, and there are occasions where I could have used a scroll saw. For example, I tried cutting out a square window for the side of a truck by using a coping saw but the result was less than desirable. With this scroll saw I can easily accomplish that task. So far, this saw has served my needs perfectly. I haven't mounted the saw to the workbench or to a piece of wood; I simply placed it on a rubber mat on the workbench. Yes, it does vibrate somewhat, but not enough to make me mount it. So for my purpose, it's a great saw and I would highly recommend it. However, if you make your living by using a scroll saw then nothing will suffice but a high priced "good" saw.

Doesn't work well with plain end blades
I struggled for 2 hours to get this to hold plain end blades. It simply won't hold the really small ones. The design for holding plain end blades is very bad. As you screw in the hold down screw, it torques the holder so far to the right, the blade comes right out. If I had a third hand, maybe it would work. It handled pin-end blades just fine. However, I took the saw back to Sears, and it won't handle 1/2 of the blades it says it handles. Brad

Bad experience

I bought this saw because of the good reviews and the fact that I have used craftsman tools for over 50 years and had good luck most of the time. This purchase was money wasted. I have used the saw twice for about 30 min. and now it will not run.

Good Value

Really happy with this saw. Really a good value at the sale price, plus I has some SYWR points which made the deal even better. I mounted it to a scrap piece of MDF with some bolts, so I can solidly clamp it to my workbench during use and then store it when I'm done.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Worked well...when it ran...the 4 times I used it

I got this for a Christmas gift and was excited to finally have one. The first 4 times I used it, it worked great. Then, when I pulled it out to use it again to make a set of chimes...nothing. Would not turn on at all. Had it longer than the warranty period so when I called for assistance, I was told they would have to send someone out to me...at the tune of $100 for the service call, not to include parts or repairs! The dang saw only cost $96! Think the overload sensor tripped for some reason...too bad it still looks new out of the box...

Good value for the money

I just took her for a spin around the block. It isn't sweet or sexy, but what kind of frills do the more expensive brands offer that you can't do with this machine? It does everything the more expensive brands will do and at a much lower price. After reviewing the Craftsman, I just could not see buying something so much more expensive. This machine does what I need it to do and I can't knock off any points for quality. There's nothing wrong with it. It's a great little tool and I would recommend it to everybody. Overall, it's probably the best value for your money when it comes to this kind of tool. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

love this saw

My husband bought this saw for my birthday. I had a different model and had worn it out over years of use. I really like the variable speeds . It makes it much easier when cutting different thickness of wood.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

level entry scroll saw

Decent machine . only two things wrong with it -- 1st the bottom blade clamp keeps flopping forward when you try ti tighten down the blade lock screw.and 2nd the air bellows is totally under powered. Fixed the 1st by installing a wooded block infront of blade holder as I tighten down the screw and for the 2nd use a aquarium air pump (for a 30 gal or larger tank )

I would recommend this product to a friend.

For the MONEY, this saw is Tough to Top!

I am a weekend handyman, doing exclusively home rather than commercial projects. So, I wanted a Scroll Saw that would do the simple things, and this saw fits nicely. It is light enough to move around on a crowded workbench, yet heavy enough to stay put when fired up. I like the saw; I've done a couple of small projects with ease. If you are a demanding professional, this might not be for you, but for the average guy, the saw -- and the price -- is right.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
