This sander is not for the faint of heart. PLEASE before you go removing material from your grandmother’s bureau, practice on scrap lumber until you are certain that you have control of the sander. It removes a lot of material really fast so be careful. It is the only Craftsman tool in my arsenal that I have a few misgivings. The belt adjustment is finicky in that you get it set and a few minutes later it needs adjusting again or the belt runs off one side or the other. The plastic housing on one side has actually been damaged from this problem. When I am able to keep the belt on straight, it is powerful and aggressive for such a small machine. The problems I have experienced may be due to a dud that I picked up or it might be a design flaw. Then again, the problem could be me so just be wary with this little guy until you are totally familiar with its operation. Although I marked that I would not recommend this sander to a friend, I would break mine out and show him/her how to use it and warn of potential problems with the belt adjustment. Then I would let him/hermake up his/her own mind about getting one.

I did a 22 x 20 deck. Never touched in 20 years and the sander held up to the pressure and the duration of the job.

I love it so far. Been using it about a month. No problems except when I first used it. The belt didn't track right. I kept adjusting it to no avail. The adjustment **** actually came off. I took the belt off and finally got the adjustment **** back on. I was surprised when it worked this time. don't know what went wrong, but I'm happy now.

First of all I'm very familier with wood working tools etc. I will say this is my first purchase of a belt sander. I have a specific need which is I build custom speaker cabinets frequently and need a way to sand down MDF quickly and with control. I have used D.A. sanders before this. With the 18" coarse belt, (it came with 3 different grit belts) it did the job in a fraction of the time and was easy to control. My reason for a 4 star is that there is only 1 speed. I recommend this product for the purpose I stated.

I used this sander on a tv stand that I am building for my gf. This sander will take off a bunch of material in a short amount of time. This is a fantastic tool for the job I had.

I bought this sander yesterday. It is pretty powerful and takes wood off quick and smooth. It is comfortable to hold with the rubber handles. Dust collection is pretty good, it does a little dust behind, but not a lot. Belt tracking is excellent and is easy to adjust.

Works well on the project I used it on. Not sure how it would work on a large heavy-duty job, but it seems to hold up under slightly rough conditions. Good tool for the money.

Good value and very functional. More expensive might be better for professionals, but this one is excellent for hobbyists and home use.

Needed a belt sander on short notice, found this for under 50 bucks in stock at the local Sears and made dust half an hour later. Actually, most of the dust stayed in the excellent micro filter, which was a nice surprise to see on such an inexpensive machine. I have to admit I don't usually care much for the Craftsman black and red/white plastic look, but this little power-horse just feels solid and well made throughout. Belt tracking is easy to adjust and never needed touching afterwards, even when changing through multiple belts. Belt changes are a snap and take mere seconds. Even the power cord is of high quality. Three belts from 60-120 grid are included. Bravo, Craftsman!
