Great saw, lousy chain...
Great chain saw for the money, but the chain supplied with it is a "consumer" version low-kickback Oregon 91PX, which dulls quickly on large logs and works well only on small branches. It has only one cutting tooth every third chain link. I was very disappointed in the performance and nearly returned the saw, but decided to try a professional chain first and installed the Oregon 91VXL. New chain has 50% more cutting teeth. Saw works like a champ now and easily cuts through large tree trunks all day. Don't blame the saw if it can't handle large trees - replace the consumer chain with a logger's version (if you know how to avoid kickback).

Broke down after 1 use Sears refuses to repair
Hard to start at first. Ran fairly well after warming up. Used to cut 1 oak tree. After owning for 3 months would not start. Sent for repairs - Sears claims this is not a manufacture defect and will not repair under warranty. I followed all directions and used the oil mix provided with the saw and thier claim is it was not sufficiently lubricated causing the cylinder to be scored and wanting to charge me more than I paid for the saw to begin with to repair. I followed all included instructions and use their oil that came in the case with the saw! They refuse to discuss the possibility that it may be defective and refuse to fix or replce my saw. Went to ********** and purchased a comparable Ryobi saw for less money with a 3 year warranty. It runs great! Much stronger than the Craftsman. This is one of many reasons I will never deal with Sears again.

Craftsman 18" gas chainsaw

The chain saw came right out of the box and with a little coaxing came right to life. The saw seemed a little cranky as the job progressed but overall the job was completed. The saw cut straight and is easy to handle, by cranky I am referring to it cutting out and then restarting after already warm. Overall it seems to be a quality tool!

Chainsaw Purchase

Definitely would recommend to friends and family. Instructions were easy to follow and very helpful regarding cleanup and long term storage. Started on the first try and was great in helping me get rid of a stubborn tree that could not be felled with an electric chain saw.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Only good for light work

This saw has no power. Constantly stalls while cutting. Cuts really slow. I wouldn't recommend this saw for much more than cutting tree limbs. The choke is extremely hard to pull. I am looking for another saw with more power. It won't be a Craftsman.

18-in 42cc Gas Chain Saw

Easy starting, light weight and low vibration. Also a very good price when it its on sale for 149.99 or less. I had to adjust the carb just a bit because I live at high altitude but now it runs great. It uses a lot of chain oil or so it seems to me but it does keep the chain and bar in good shape.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
