This is the second, and last sears electric I will ever own. The first leaked oil from the oil tank right out of the box. The ratchet type chain tensioner on the second one striped, making it impossible to change chains. I'll stick to using my stihl 290. Don't waste your money. Spend a little more and get something that will last!
This chainsaw is exactly what i needed at the present time. the best part of this product is that is not noisy and no gas, like the standard gas chainsaws that i'm accustom to, and also, no gas. i'm happy for now. i have use it once, and not complaining.
This saw will equal or exceed my gas powered Husky Rancher in power cutting, noise, and safety. I'm a wood turner and rip cut logs up to 20" long and more than 12" in diameter. Ripping forces long shavings into the drive area. With the gas powered saw, I had to stop every few minutes to remove the shavings, then restart the saw for the next cut. I used more energy pulling the starter cord than cutting wood. With this saw, I just release the trigger, which prevents accidental restarting.. After cleaning, I pull the trigger (disengaging the lockout) and I'm cutting again. I'll still use the Husky in the woods to fell trees and cut them into manageable lengths, but final prep for bowl-making will be at home with this saw.
I purchased this chain saw for my Dad based on reviews that I read about it. The purpose for the chain saw was to do light pruning of his shrubs. I helped him with the pruning and the saw worked very well UNTIL after about 3 hours of use (very light use ), it just stopped working. Since the saw was out of warranty by the time we used it, I decided to tear it apart and find out what the problem was. I found that the motor brushes had gotten so hot that they melted into the PLASTIC housing. I figured there must have been some defect during manufacture or assembly so decided I would just buy the new brushes and brush housing through Sears Parts. Not a chance ! You can't buy any motor parts for this saw. So he now owns an almost new, totally useless piece of junk.
