Used it to clean up some threads in a used hood to bolt in and it worked great. Lubed up the threads, sprayed the tap with some too, and they started biting right in. Cleaned those suckers right up. VERY accurate to correct size. New bolts fit great.
The holders are solid and built well and THOSE have a lifetime warranty on them. Putting a lifetime warranty on taps and dies would be like putting a lifetime warranty on tires or drill bits - they get used and wear down. Treat them well and lubricate when cutting, however, and you won't see an issue.
Next on the list is a rethreading of some hardedned steel posts on the exhaust manifold. If these things will cut into that, they'll work for pretty mucn anything else I can throw at them.
They're not hardened carbide for threading titanium, but for your general maintenance and softer alloy cutting, they'll do just fine!
On first attempt at using it, the tap sheared off without applying a lot of force. The T bar also slid out of it's travel and kept falling on the ground. This set is of extremely poor quality.

Terrible unreliable product. This product is not worthy of the Craftsman name. Number one it was inexpensively made in China. I did not expect this from Craftsman. What a Disappointment. The dies are dull and have a difficult time not breaking. Buy Snap ON!

This kit was purchased to clean the threads on 5/16" - 18 TPI threaded rods. The die and rod would not mate. The defect was with the die and all similiar dies at the store at which I shop. None of the dies fit a 5/16" rod. The die's diameter is smaller than 5/16" Sears readily accepted the returned kit. An equivalent kit was purchased at a big box hardware store. The 5/16" - 18 die mated easily with the rod. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the die in question is defective or mislabeled. Although labeled 5/16" it cannot be used on a 5/16" rod or bolt.

Just purchased this tap and die set this morning and already ive used it twice. Comes with a great variety of extremely useful sizes, and in a handy storage case to keep all the bits an pieces together. The price was a good value compared to som esets ive seen that dont have the variety or the carrying case.

I was looking for a small metric Tap and Die kit for retreading an exshaust stud. This small kit came in very handy for this job. My son was using my big set for his motor-cross bike.
