Product Description

The Craftsman 22 inch Self Propelled Mower Delivers a Good-Looking Lawn

The Craftsman 190cc Front Drive Self Propelled Mower delivers versatility and toughness with a value that might just have you thinking lawn care isn't so bad after all. With a 675 Gold Series Briggs & Stratton engine with 190cc's of power, there's no denying this Craftsman mower has the guts to cut down just about any length of grass in its path. No only is the engine potent, but it's easy to start, too, thanks to Ready Start™ and Smooth Start&trade. Ready Start is a system that eliminates the need for priming and choking the engine so all you have to do is pull, which is about 20 percent easier than on other lawn mowers thanks to Smooth Start. The mower pulls its own weight, too, as it cuts its way across your yard with a variable speed gear drive system on the front wheels so it moves at the speed you want it to move - effortlessly. There's no more need to lean into the handle with all your weight to mow up hills or through thick or wet grass which not only makes this Craftsman lawn mower more comfortable, but safer, too.

Even with all of those comfort features, this Craftsman 22 inch Self Propelled Mower gets the job done and done well. Four height positions on the 22 inch high performance deck help you get the ideal look and feel you want on your lawn. Not only do you get to choose how thick and luscious you want your grass, but how to dispose of it as well by bagging, mulching or discharging the clippings. The bagger door automatically stays open to make removing the bag even easier and simply closes with a squeeze of the control ball. Mulching delivers highly important nutrients back to your lawn without the cluttered look of leaving the clippings behind. With so many features on this versatile mower, the hardest thing you might do is put it away - and Craftsman even makes that easy thanks to its folding adjustable handle.

  • Featuring a 22-in. high-performance deck, the Craftsman 190cc Front Drive Self Propelled Mower offers excellent bagging, mulching or discharging
  • 675 Briggs & Stratton Gold Series 190cc* engine with Smooth Start (20% easier to pull); ReadyStart™** (no priming needed); and M.R.S.
  • Front drive, variable speed propelled drive system lets the mower do the work
  • EZ Bagging Access features a bagger door that stays open for easy bag removal
  • Dust-Blocker Grass Bag helps keep dirt away from user
  • Available in all 50 states
  • 2-year warranty protects your investment
  • Made in USA
  • *As rated by the engine manufacturer
**Starting Promise: Briggs & Stratton Corporation warrants to the original owner, that select 550ex Series™, 675ex Series™, 725ex Series™ and Professional Series™ engines equipped with ReadyStart™ will always start on the first or second pull or we will fix it for free.

Quiet, smooth, fast drive.
I bought this on sale last Fall to replace a 12 year old version of this mower that was showing it's age (rust holes and knocking engine). After using it for a month now, I am quite happy with this unit. [[[PROS]]] [*] This machine is noticeably more quiet than the old one (probably due to the piston slap on the old engine). [*] Drive speed is 50% faster than my old unit. I like to mow at a fast pace, so this is very nice for me. So far, the high drive speed has not bogged down the engine, but I mow every weekend to prevent excessive grass height. [*] Very easy for me to start. I put STABIL in the gas after testing it out last Fall. In the Spring, it started up in 4 pulls with this older gas. Now starts in one pull. MAKE SURE you put STABIL in your gas can! Stale gas is the leading cause of mower failures BY FAR. It's very easy to add to your gas can when filling it up at the gas station. [[[CONS:]]] [*] Having an upper bail (engine control) and lower bail (drive control) on the handle make my hands sore after 30 minutes. The small bars start to really dig in. The new model has a flat plastic cover over the top bail, which I might try to replicate on mine. My old lawnmower had a single bail (engine control) and a locking hand lever (drive control), which did not bother me much. [*] Deck steel thickness (gauge) is a little thinner than the old model. The deck does not flex much (steel is probably a better grade), but I wonder how long until rust eats through it. My old machine had rust holes in the deck, but it's first 10 years were likely harsh from the previous owners. [*] Drive gear box appears to be all plastic. This might not be a problem, but I wonder how robust this will be. The drive wheels on my old AND new mower have plastic gears, and they will fail if you bump the mower head-on into walls/fences/trees while in drive too often. When navigating around tricky spots, let go of the drive bail and push it manually. This tip should make your self propel system last for years.

Overall
good mower

I bought this mower because I like to use my mower as a vacuum. This mower is able to fill the bag completely. The one thing I don't like about this mower is the location of the auto drive handle. After mowing for an hour with this mower my hand started to cramp up. Debating whether I should return it for a handle that is more ergonomically designed and won't send my hand and arm into muscle cramps. Otherwise the mower is powerful and seems to run smooth.

mower

Had to replace an old mower after 10 years. Price was reasonable for a self propelled mower compared to a standard push mower. Easy to assemble (roles right out of the box).

I would recommend this product to a friend.

good tool

I am pleased with this lawn mower so far. I compared the self-propelled mowers from several stores, but I decided to return to Sears to get this Craftsman. It is easy to move around and has sufficient power. The cuts are quite uniform. The sales people are friendly and helpful.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good mower for the price

Bought the mower as a refurbished unit at Sears. Works like a champ! Starts first pull and is mechanically sound - no problems. I'm having to get used to the regular "self propelled" feature. I had the one that engages and goes faster as you push harder. The self propelled works fine, but is taking sone getting used to! Again, works fine, cuts fine. So far, it seems like a good mower and a good deal!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Replacement Lawnmower

The new mower had all the features I needed and was relatively inexpensive. Worked right out of the box. No need to prime the engine. Easy to start. Cut right through the 5-inch high grass (that had grown while I tried to fix my old mower) without a problem. I'd give it 5-stars instead of 4-stars, but I've only used it twice. Perfect so far, but not enough experience with it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
Definitely a cheap build. Wish I kept my Toro.

I bought a rental property and took my couple year old similar Toro self propelled lawn mower to the rental property. I then needed to replace it for my residence and found this. Price wise, it was a good value. Quality wise, you get what you pay for. It is definitely made with cheaper materials than the Toro I had. I wanted a large engine that wouldn't bog down in deep grass and a self propelled system. This one seemed to fit the bill. The bag catch is questionable. The bag just clips to the frame with cheap plastic parts. I used it a couple times and it starts easily. It seemed to do ok but again, cheaper feel. I do like the fact that the handle bar has multiple setting for height. I have it set on the highest setting for mower height and it probably could go a bit higher. After all is said and done, I miss my old Toro.
