After having my Craftsman of 7 years clunk out on me i was looking for a model to replace it. I had thought i had found a good replacement in this model. I wanted something simple without a lot of bells and whistles that was reiable. The first time i used it, it started to just fine and did it's job. I've only had this mower for 3 months and now i'm looking for a new one. It became harder and harder to start each time i would use it. Be ready for some shoulder injuries getting this model to start.

My wife bought this item for me with her rewards points it is the best lawn mower I have ever had. Very easy to use the cut was set at a good height did not have to adjust anything on it. I have only had the mower for about a week and have cut my lawn two times already I like that it has a place for cleaning the bottom and the handle is adjustable. If I ever need to buy one again I will buy from Sears again. I will be looking to buy a new grill next summer and patio furniture. Also looking at welders for my son for Christmas. My wife bought her sewing machine from Sears with her reward points last Christmas.
I needed a new mower and am upset with myself I did not get a rear wheel drive. It is a great mower for front wheel drive. Cuts great and cleans up very well. Excited to have it!!
I had starting problem with this mower 5 years ago, ripped it apart several times cleaning everything until I realised it was in the spark plug connection, get rid of the cap hook her up direct, pump the primer and she will start every time. Great mower, run high test in her, love the way she mulches leaves.
Bought it on sale at Sears in 2009. I don't remember the price. Mostly reliable. Easy start Briggs engine, drive engagement safety and dead-man cut-off (that's so ominous when used in the context of a large blade driven by a gas engine :-) ). Usage: There is a rubber bulb on the front to prime the engine. 2-4 (max!) pushes. This gives me a 2 or 3 pull start even after a long winters nap. Any more pushing on the bulb seems to flood the engine. A flooded engine equals 40 pulls on the cord and a lot of unpleasant language. The engine cutoff and self-propulsion engagement controls are on the push handle. The engine cutoff must be held with the handle for the engine to be started or to run. Drive engagement must be held for the front wheels to turn. No blade clutch - when the engine is running the blade is turning. Clippings bag mounts on the rear. The rear chute can be blocked off with a plug to allow mulching. A vent on the right side of the deck can be propped open with a "clippings redirector". Minor nits: The safety handles are not well "integrated" into the push handle and are uncomfortable after about 4 hours. Even using gloves I end up with a blister on my hand once a year. The bag can only get about 80% full it must be emptied. Some areas fills up with dirt, crud, and grass trimmings and are difficult to clean out. I turn the mower onto it's side to hose off the underside of the deck. Afterwards, when I turn it back upright, the engine is much more difficult to start. To engage the propulsion, the control must be squeezed onto the main push handle after the engine is running. For me (I'm 6' 3") The main push handle comes up below my waist. If I'm leaning into the main push handle with that part of my body when I squeeze the drive safety, certain .... appendages can be caught between the drive safety and main handles. It is a painful experience and a lesson I have to learn every Spring. No, I don't mow in the nude ... during daylight hours anyway ;-) Bigger problems: In mulching mode, the mower runs out of power in tall or thick or damp grass. At some point the left front wheel stopped driving. I removed the wheel and noticed that all the drive teeth were sheared off. New wheel. The bearing sleeve inside the right front wheel rusted to the axle shaft. New wheel. Pluses: Cost. I really wanted a multi-cylinder commercial walk-behind with a deck measured in furlongs and a price to match. My wife, having some sensibility, views lawn mowers like light bulbs and suggested something more affordable that could be replaced in a few years when it fell apart. Fooled her! Four years and it's still running. When the engine has fresh, clean gas, isn't flooded, has a clean air filter and a reasonably new plug, it really does start in 2 pulls, even first start-up in the Spring. I'm always amazed. Bag is easy to get on and off.
