Best Mower for the money

I bought this mower when it was on sale during Memorial Day
weekend. I live in a suburb of Atlanta, GA. The grass here is cut very short. I
use the mower 2 times every week to cut my lawn. My property grade is hilly so
the last mower I had was a yard man. It never had enough power to cut the lawn
short and still pull the machine up the hill. This machine is great it has
plenty enough power to do the job. I have been using this mower all summer
long, it starts on 1 pull. Never has used any oil. The only thing they need to
change about this machine is the drive control. After a while of using the
machine it starts to ware on your hands.

Craftsman rea wheel drive 22" Mower

This was without a doubt the hardest handling mower I have ever used.  The rear wheels being wider than the front and wider than the deck make it impossible to mow close to the foundation or curbs.  The front wheels are also extended and make lifting at corners difficult.  The self propel engage bar being under the grab handle is hard to control and causes a lot of strain on hands by being in an awkward position.  I would not recommend this mower to anyone.

we love it!

we bought our lawnmower second hand. It was used probably 5 times. the owner had to move and didn't want to bring it with him. we loved it from the start. it starts every time, cuts well, and since i have joint issues the self propel is wonderful.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Not bad but I'd keep looking.

I read the reviews on this and decided that they couldn't all be that bad and I found this as a floor model clearance with a great discount so I bought it. This is probably the first ever Craftsman product that I'm truly unhappy with. Pros: Starts easy on first pull every time, even right out of the box! Goes fast when you want it to and slow when you want it to. Deck wash-out feature is nice (although I'm sure most other models have that too.) Cons: Really, really small bag and small chute that clogs up very quickly and has to be emptied about 3 times on a small sized front/back yard. Wider rear wheel track makes turning and getting close to fences, poles, etc really challenging and I can see the sides of the mower wearing more quickly as a result. Seems to have plenty of power but in think grass it requires a 2nd pass over to get extra grass that didn't get cut the 1st time. Truly a waste of time and money. I would stay with a Craftsman mower next time but get a different model.

Don't buy it

Got it home, unpacked, handles assembled, gas (new) and oil filled, assembled catcher. Went to adjust mowing height and one of the front levers was bent, wouldn't "catch". Mower started on first try but ran for only 3 seconds or so. This continued.. never ran for more than 5-6 seconds. It's going back tomorrow for return and refund!!

Worst lawnmower I have ever owned

I wish I had read the reviews before buying this mower. I bought it 2 years ago. I used it maybe 4 times and it would not start. Took it in for repairs. After having it repaired used it maybe 5 times same problem. Off to the repair shop again this time had to pay $100 to get it fixed had it about two weeks same problem. Would not start after buying a new gas cap and filter $10.00 was able to get it started, ran for about 2 hours before stopping again. At this point I am done. I will never buy another craftsman (Sears) more or product of any kind. Very disappointing and frustrating

This is the worst Craftsman mower I've ever owned!!!

...and I've owned several. 1) The drive system is way too fast. It move the mower so fast that the blade can't cut well in tall grass and the bag stops filling because the chute is clogged. It needs a drive speed adjustment or different gear ratio. 2) Belt is difficult to replace. It requires you to remove 2 baffels plus the blade to remove. 3) Belts comes off to easily. The slightest amount of belt wear allows the belt to jump off the front pulley. 4) Stupid star shapes hole in blade hub means you can't use generic replacement blades, instead, you get to pay 50% more for a special blace from Sears.. Woopee!!!

No Satisfaction

Bought this mower last fall. Used it about 12 times. The belt that powers the self propulsion fell off. Put it back on 5 times. Kept falling off. Took it to Sears to fix. After 2 weeks picked it up, engaged the self propulsion. The belt fell off. Took it back in again. Will I be able to use it before the snow starts falling? I will look elsewhere for a new snow blower.

Out-of-the-box Excellence

I've been shy about buying Craftsman or Sears products in the past -- this was my parent's department store; not mine. However, with this product, I did my online due-diligence and it came-in as highly rated and my need was great and immediate. I decided to take the plunge back into my parent's old standby. Boy, am I glad I did. I can't say enough great things about this lawnmower. -- easy out-of-the-box assembly -- great service at my local Sears store when purchasing -- started on the very first pull of the starter cord -- the back-wheel drive is indeed strong and great for rough terrain or a steep grade -- clear, easy to understand instructions The only negative that I'd give it (and this is true for every push lawn mower I've ever worked with) is that the clippings bag isn't large enough and is awkward to remove and empty. Some great design mind should be put onto the task of a complete redesign of this rather universal yet flawed design element of the standard mower.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Purchase Review

I recently purchased this lawnmower at Sears and it has performed very well for me. The cut is smooth and effortless. The only thing that I would change (if anything) is the mulching ability of the mower (height of the grass for mulching).

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Good Product, so far!

Started fast, ran great! Kinda wished it was self-propelled on the front wheels instead of the rear, and it does move fast when the rear wheels are engaged. It is somewhat of a headache when I want to turn tight corners, because I have to disengage the drive control bar just to do so, otherwise I'd strip the gears for rear wheels. If the drive control was on the front wheels, then it wouldn't be a problem. My yard isn't flat, so once I was able to determine the appropriate cutting height, cutting the yard was a breeze. And... the bag didn't fill up as fast when it was at the lowest setting. Once the proper height was determined, I could cut about 75% of the acre before having to empty the clippings. Hopefully I won't have problems with it when I must do the yard again (as stated in other posts). I still have my old Craftsman mower, keeping it as a back up until I know for sure this new mower will not break down on me.
