Great Mower
I'll be honest, I bought this for a piece of property that was too big, hilly and rocky for this mower. However, if you have a lot of lawn and not just a raw piece of acreage, this is the mower for you. You can't go wrong with the B&S, but some people seem to think they need the Honda...go figure.

A good mower for a big, level yard
This is a very good mower, if you have the right yard. First, the high points. It was extremely easy to set up. It started on the first pull. It is well made. The engine is very powerful; actually, a little too powerful. If you fully engage the drive lever, you almost have to run to keep up with the mower. It is a great aerobic exercise workout. I tell people that I aerobic mow the grass. I like having 2 drive levers. This helps to hold with alternating hands when mowing large areas. The mower has great ?suck?. It does a job of picking up the grass clippings as well as leaves while mowing. It even picked leaves and many of the acorns up from a concrete drive way. The side discharge is great. It throws the grass clippings away from the mower with a lot of force. I really like the window in the bag. You can easily tell when it is full. The bag door locks up and out of the way when removing the bag. It then releases when you grab the engine kill lever to restart the mower. That is very handy. Now, why I gave it 3 stars which is an average rating. I believe that this would be a 5 star mower if it did not have the single lever wheel height adjustment system. The rear wheels are set about an inch wider on each side than the front wheels and the mower deck. This limits the ability to easily mow close to objects such as fences or home slabs. In addition to this, a rod that is a part of the height adjustment system that connects the 2 rear wheels passes under the rear deck. If you set the deck level in the 1 thru 3 positions, this rod sets lower than the bottom of the deck. The 3 setting seems to equate to a 2? cutting height. This rod then hangs on the grass any place that the lawn is uneven. It is very annoying to be mowing along and then getting hung up. This is less of a problem if you set the position at 4 or higher. I have San Augustine grass which could exaggerate the problem. It is a thick grass with large runners that are above ground. I have used the mower quite a bit in the last month since I bought it online. I have really tried to give it a fair opportunity to perform. But, given the fact that my lawns are small and have trees, flower beds and lots of obstructions, I would not get this particular mower again. However, I would seriously consider a similar mower with individual wheel height adjusters.

Everything I expected and more

Couldn't pass up this great deal. This mower replaced another craftsman mower that I had for 10 years and was still in great shape when I purchased this one. Has more power and cuts better and faster than my previous model. So glad I bought it.

Overall
Ok when and if it is working

Have had it about 8 months. Did light cutting with it 4-5 times. Had perhaps 5 hours total on it. Quit working. Took it into Sears for repair under warranty. Carb and spark plug replaced; Sears charged for the latter, which was no biggie, but irksome. Worked ok for about an hour, then had difficulty starting it. Am not optimistic about the reliability and or life of the mower. In the furture will stick to Honda motors.

Overall
Great mower for bumpy and hilly lawns.

I have used Craftsman power mowers for over 30 years and found them reliable. As I have gotten older, I decided to switch to the above rear drive mower since my lawn is bumpy and with a small grade and I was having to put too much effort using my front wheel drive mower. Have been using this rear drive mower for two months now. The rear drive gives much more traction and it is much easier to mow with less effort as I am now older. The mower takes a little time to get used to after using front wheel mowers for years but now find due to my bumpy lawn and occasional heavy grass and does a wonderful clean cut and the single wheel height adjustment is a plus. Starts on the first or second pull too.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Rear Drive Self Propelled Lawn Mower

I actually purchased this used mower from Sears because it had the power and blade width that I was looking for as well as the larger rear drive wheels. This has been a great mower so far and the larger wheels provide much better traction on steeper slopes.

Just what we needed

We needed a self-propelled lawn mower for my 80 year old mother. She still likes to mow her own lawn! She wants to do it as long as she is able to. This mower is just what we were looking for: self-propelled being a necessity. It also has a hose connection on the deck so you can clean the grass out from around the blades

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Mower replacement

Bought this mower to replace a worn out snapper. Mower starts on the 1st or 2nd pull. Self-propelled works great on my hilly yard. The engine is quiet. One of the best mowers I've ever had. Would buy again.

Overall
broken drive cable

purchased this mower in March . Drive cable broke in July. Hardly used, maybe 5 times. Where cable goes into housing there is a sharp bend which is where cable broke. should have been installed with gentle bend. Will have go in for repair under warranty. Machine is too heavy and hard to pull back when necessary. Maybe fine for a large yard where there is nothing to go around. Would not recommend this mower
