I've used this mower on my front lawn for 2 weeks. Overall, this is a very good mower with 2 flaws. STRENGTHS: 1. The engine is VERY powerful and creates excellent vacuum suction for picking up debris (cut grass, leafs, etc). 2. The 22" deck cuts a wide swath allowing you to cut your lawn in several fewer passes than a 21" deck would. 3. The electric starter works well and is a great feature since this model cannot idle with the blade stopped (the engine cuts off every time you release the safety handle). Without the electric starter, you would need to pull the starter cable every time you released the safety handle (to empty the bag step, step away for a moment, etc). This is why I did not get the model #37092 - too much cable pulling is annoying. On the other hand, you can spend an extra $100 to get the top model (#37905) that has the blade clutch and can idle, but this feature adds unnecessary mechanical complexity and cost and really isn't needed or missed with an electric starter (plus you save gas by not idling when changing the bag). Of the models offered currently, this model with electric start is the best overall choice, in my opinion. 4. The self propelling mower can go very fast - a very brisk walk and plenty fast enough to get the job done quickly (giving you a cardio work-out too). 5. A single lever controls height adjustment for all wheels. This is very handy when you want to lower the mower to vacuum up clippings around the edge of the lawn, and then raise it to mow the lawn. 6. The rear door has a convenient feature that allows it to stay open while you empty the bag. When you put the bag back on and pull the safety handle, the door automatically snaps shut tight against the bag allowing you to resume. 7. The dual speed hand controls give you more precision than a single lever would. 8. The hose clean out feature works well. WEAKNESSES: 1. The mower's rear wheels are spaced further apart than the front wheels. The large rear wheels give the mower good traction and speed, but the wider spacing making it more difficult to mow around obstacles and get close to boundaries. I hope Sears will design future models with the front and rear wheels in alignment (either make rear wheels smaller or elongate rear portion of deck to allow the same spacing). If you are mainly mowing a flat area with few obstacles, it doesn't create a major problem. 2. The mower's maximum height adjustment is not high enough in my opinion. My previous Honda Craftsman mower could cut the crass at least 1-2 inches higher than this model can. I cut the grass extra high in the summer because it benefits the lawn and reduces water use. The maximum cutting height is adequate for most of the year, however. I hope Sears will design future models with a higher maximum cutting height. I hope you find this review helpful.
I can honestly say that mine worked right out of the box. I have used it several times starting it with only the push button and it starts right up. I haven't even charged it up yet once. The speed is very fast and the rear tires help make corners easier. The motor is very strong in overgrown grass. The only problem it has is when the bag is completely full, then it just gets bogged down because the grass has no place to go. My only complaints would be that the bag is not big enough, but is pretty standard I've noticed across the board in lawnmowers. But the big one is you have to overlap your lines or you end up with a strip of grass if you try to line up the wheels on each pass. Other than that this lawnmower is awesome and I would highly recommend it.
This mower does the grass cutting job I desired. It is easy to use as instructions are correct and easy to follow. The mower responds efficiently to the controls. It operates very well as a push/driven mower.
This mower stopped working for us at the end of the 2nd season. It would not start. We are still trouble shooting but I would avoid purchasing. We now have to take it into the repair center. We owned a craftsman in the past that lasted 14 years so thought sticking with a Craftsman was the right thing to do.
The control handle doesn't "nest" as it should so it makes for a very difficult hand position. Also, the manual start cord did not retract at all after one pull, so it is now completely "out" and can't be used to start the mower. I bought this right off the internet and had no chance to look at it initially. Stopped by a Sears Hardware store to see a floor model, and the handle seated perfectly. Will be returning this one for a second one. Hope the handle is properly formed and installed, and the recoil portion of the pull start cord is functional. Hope to give a much better review with the replacement.
I purchased the Sears Item# 07137093000 Craftsman 22" mower with the 190cc Briggs & Stratton Platinum Engine. the Engine started fine and ran until I stopped to empty the bag the first time. I could not get the engine restarted, try as I might. I took the mower back to Sears and was given a new mower. I brought this one home and the same thing happend, albeit after several stop/stops. I removed the filter cover and found the throttle plate stuck closed. I freed the throttle plate and the mower started. The throttle plate gets stuck occasionally after the mower gets warm so now, when I cut the grass, I carry a screwdriver with me but THIS IS NOT THE ANSWER! This is a design flaw gentlemen. What gives? Please fix this and post the fix.
I was very impressed with its ability to mow up steep hills; squeezing both Easy-Walk Dual Trigger Drive Controls gives better response than squeezing just one. The high engine speed gives excellent suction for gathering leaves.
