This single machine vacuums, shreds, chips and blows, allowing you to use one powerful tool for year-round lawn and garden care. You'll save both time and effort as you cruise across the lawn picking up sticks, twigs, leaves and other debris while simultaneously making mulch. (*Engine size as rated by engine manufacturer.)

The vacuum hose also detaches, allowing you to easily clean flowerbeds, under the deck and other hard-to-reach places. You'll spend less time working and more time enjoying your home's great outdoors when this powerful machine is in your lawn-care arsenal.

Larger intake and more powerful engine needed

This product is fine for moderate to lite leaf fall. However, for wet and thick piles of leaves it is far less effective. Sticks also can clog the intake. My suggestion would be a larger intake and slightly more powerful engine. This tool is designed for sidewalks and other areas where leave fall is minimal. For what it was designed to do it is ok, but this is not a machine for heavy duty leave work. A powerful blower would be more effective here.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Review after using it for a month

This is in addition to my earlier review. Yes it is heavy. Would be nice to be aluminum body with reverse drive. Do not buy this without the self propel feature. The hose needs to be longer. I have used it about 5 times. My goal is to on a regular basis pick up the fallen leaves before they build up and get messy. This is important in Oregon. It is easy to pick up leaves a dry day after a rain. I do use a hand blower in conjunction to help clear off the sidewalks/driveways where leaves have been trampled down. If you go over thick pile a leaves, you do need temper how fast you are going but it is very manageable. Also raising aor lowering the height is very important to match the situation. I managed to cut what would be a 3-4 hour job to about 1 hour each time I go out. It's pretty cool to make a couple of passes in the street and have your curbs spic and span. It's a 4 star plus machine with 1/2 star lost for designs features that could be better like a lighter body.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The Crafftsman 4in1 self propelled yard vac.

This machine does a great job on the basic functuion of sucking up leaves, et all. Having 2 speeds  for the wheel propulsion system is a big plus. It's well built and starts easily.  The bag is easy to empty.

I do have 2 other comments:

1. It should be converted from a rear wheel drive to a front wheel drive.  If the leaves are moist, once the vac is half full, the front end tilts up really easily, especially when it's in the drive mode.

2. The tube needs is OK for small leaves, but bigger leaves are difficult to get up, causing it to clog easily.  It also doesn't offer much molbility to get around, but that is a problem inheirent with any system such as this.  I will probably leave it off the machine unless really needed.  I'll just use my leaf blower to clear out the tighter areas and then vacuum up the leaves with the main sucker, which works really great.

The Draftsman Yard Vacuum has strong vacuum and is well made.

I have used King O Lawn Lawn vacuums for the past 30 years. The body is cast aluminum. The Craftsman's body is steel, which makes the Craftsman a much heavier unit. This is the only negative thus far. Suggest putting a large "idiot" tag on the drive control handle for first-time users. I tried starting my vacuum holding this lever down, similar to when I start my Craftsman mower. I thought the lever was a safety for the motor, not the clutch for the power drive unit. I did get it started holding the lever down with the throttle wide open, fortunately I didn't hit anything. The debris bag leaks a small amount of debris around the PVC handle which clips onto the vac. I examined the leak and noticed the bag was attached with a plastic pull-tie. I suggest replacing this pull-tie with a strong cord or a flat strap about 1/2 wide and with a spring loaded friction buckle that the owner could adjust or re-tie periodically. The bag is dusty, any possibility of using similar material (dustblocker) as with your Craftsman mowers? The bag has a useful flap at the back for emptying, this is a great feature. I like the metal hasps which secures this flap but it still leaks debris from the sides. Any possibility of using a velco-like material on the external ends of this flap to seal it? This would be a great improvement as currently, particularly when cleaning a cement driveway, debris escapes from the bag onto the pavement. Either up front or at the end of the Operator's Manual I suggest adding an "idiot" page for people like myself that clearly and simply lists the oil viscosity and oil volume needed for this unit, plus a simple, five point maintenance summary as to when to change the oil, filters, etc. Perhaps you already have this, it would be helpful to have a feature on your website where a Craftsman owner could insert their zip code and name or model number of their product and locate a service center to have their products tuned-up and serviced. It would also be helpful to submit product questions via email and receive a response. This way minor problems could be conveniently addressed, and major problems could be seen at a service center in a timely manner. The sales staff at my Sears store (Moreno Valley, Ca.) were very knowledgeable about this product, and about the Craftsman mower I recently purchased. As a result I feel confident in working with them. They were also very patient. Might want to consider inter-store transfers of merchandise. My local store did not have a vacuum in stock, as a result I had to make a 30 mile trip to the next closest store to access a unit. Staff checked, my local store was not scheduled to receive a vacuum for some time.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
