I purchased this mower 1 year ago and after a full summer/fall of use I feel I can give a fair review. For starters, this tractor with its single cylinder B&S engine is designed for flat lots under an acre. It doesn't have the speed or power to mow acres of hilly land. I have about 3/4 of an acre and I really wouldn't want to mow much more than that on this tractor, simply due to the lack of speed and the 42" mower. That said, it does a fair job on slight inclines/dips. It does have some frame flex but with the anti-scalping wheels, I haven't noticed any striping or uneven cuts. The front axle is also not fixed and pivots which may lead some to believe the frame is flexing more than it is. The unit does well with dry grass, but tends to bog a little on wet grass. I purchased the mulching kit also, which is pretty useless with this small engine unless the grass it completely dry and relatively short. The only useable cutting heights are 3-5. Anything under 3 and you're removing turf from your lawn. I've had absolutely no mechanical issues, and the little engine runs great, but it is LOUD! Really obnoxiously loud, especially when under load, which is most of the time, of course. I like the hydrostatic transmission and the ability to mow in reverse, but the reverse speed is very slow. Overall, I've been satisfied with it and look forward to many more summers with it.

We bought this mower because the one we bought in 1996 cracked a block. The old mower mowed 7 acres all that time and this one takes over without missing a beat. It has good power takes a tight turn and is much more quite. Cuts the grass well and no uncut trail behind. Hope it lasts as long as the old craftsman.
If you are looking for a mower to allow you to mow tight spaces, say with a lot of natural areas in the yard, then this is the mower for you. I didn't want to spend 1k or more more on a zero radius mower for 3/4 of an acre, so this really fit the bill nicely. It really is amazing the turn capability for a non zero radius mower.

I bought this lawn mower in summer and mostly used at highest cutting height for mower deck. When I need to mow short in fall, I found that It does not go below position 3 and was touching the ground. I complained to warranty department, They sent person to fix it. He just loosen the bolt on height adjusting lever to now lever goes to setting 1 but deck still touches the ground between 2 and 3 setting and does not move between setting 2 and 1. He also told me that setting 1 is not for user, it is intended only for service person to use for repair and maintenance. I Should have known this it has really 4 setting for lawn cutting height so I could have bought some other model. There is only adjustment for deck height other side is fixed so yo can not do much height adjustments. Also it is very loud. I wear hearing protection so not much trouble.
This is the worst product I've ever bought from Sears and the last. Bought it to remove snow with the blower they recomend. The tractor has so many safety features it makes it a pain to use. Reverse didn't even work, does not turn well in snow, and unless you have a perfectly smooth driveway, don't buy this tractor. Hate to think how it does on a lawn.
we needed to get a new lawn mower for my mother. She is 80 and loves to mow but hates the upkeep of a mower. This mower will be great , with the yearly checks and house maintenance she should have many more enjoyable mowing years
I recently bought this 42" turn tight Craftsman and I could not be happier. It is like the Cadillac of lawn mowers. I love the design and the layout of all the controls on the mower. The mower runs awesome and the automatic works excellent. I really love the way Sears described as you will be the envy of your neighborhood, this is how I feel. I have got compliments from my neighbors on the looks, quietness and smooth operation of my new mower. Thank you Sears!
