great saw!!!
i bought this band saw and it works great... if you know how to use it! i have found that it works best if you use a 3/16 blade. it is alot better than the ones that come with it! and make sure you buy the craftsman Professional blades they have a lot longer life and cut great even on hardwoods.

get a bigger saw
I purchased a model 21 band saw and my first use was pretty good. Afterwards trying to cut a 1 and 1/8 inch piece of Brizilian ebony into 3/32 inch pieces the saw bogged down. Stopping intermediately at times and not staying on track. After an hour of cutting only 3 pieces of 3/32 in. sections it finally gave out and would not cut anything. I replaced the blade and still no better. I removed the motor and found out that the drive sprocket was worn. A cheap plastic part. Now I have to find a replacement sprocket. If you are going to cut hardwood get a 14 inch saw with a 3/4 hp motor and make sure that it contains no plastic sprockets.

Craftsman 9inch fixed bandsaw

Craftsman should be ashamed using theyre reputation to push china crap. This bandsaw is totally worthless it has no power, bogs down on 3/4 soft pine shelf board. blade wanders hopelessly forget about staying on the lines, guides are a joke the dont help. you can spend hours aligning the blade only to make 3 cuts and lose the blade again. made mostly of cheap thin plastic and flimsy steel. This is by far the most worthless tool I have ever purchased. I want my money back I dont need a paper weight. If you are considering buying one, smash your own thumb with a hammer instead, its cheaper and generally a smarter Idea. sears wont even take it back is so bad.

This is a good saw but I it is always getting out of adjustment!

This saw is a good working saw but I am always adjusting it because after like 3 hours of use the blade slide off the blade wheel! That is the only thing I do not like about this saw. Other then that it is a good working saw for me to use for cutting.

This 9" Craftsman band saw is a very poorly built tool.

I purchased this 9" band saw last week and when it arrived the base was bent.It was packaged properly and there was no damage to the box,it was just shipped that way. The table took an hour to adjust the level, front to back. When tighting the handle it pulls the table down and tilts to the rear.I had to shim it with a steel washer because the thin steel back was bent. The welds look like they were done by a 7th grade shop student. The upper guide block was completely loose due to the set screw being overtightened and the soft aluminum threads were stripped.I should not have to replace a part before I even plug the thing in. There is alot of plastic parts.I have used Craftsman tools for 40yrs and it is sad to see such a poor quality tool.Danny.

Worthless

I have a large, 12' band saw, but thought I'd like something smaller, benchtop, for small cuts, etc.

I never learn my lesson - don't buy cheap.  I had no illusions that this would be a powerful saw, but I never expected it to be pretty much useless.

Band blade won't stay on 90% of the time (I'm using Craftsman blades).  Even when it stays on, tends to "wander" laterally. Guides, adjustments are pretty much useless.

Have tried several differerent blades, but no joy.

I bought this product to rough cut wood carving figures in basswood, and for that it has worked very well. When trying to cut red oak to a pattern line though, it would not stay on track no matter how I adjusted it. After comparing it to a 9" bandsaw from a local discount tool store whose name rhymes with arbor weight, I found them to be virtually the same in different colors and brandname. When I assembled it I found the blade guide set screw was stripped and could not be properly adjusted. Anyone buying this to use for hard woods or anything but small projects should spend the extra money to get a larger machine.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
