I have this model without electric start purchased 12/2010. Tiller was used for the first time a few days ago and possibly the last time. Manual says to run tines forward in soft ground ......ya right if you want to run and chase it. If you run tines in reverse in soft ground and it buries itself, tires even dig in and won't pull it, it will even dig enough to come near to tipping on it's side. Tilling a straight line is impossible, keep your hoe because you won't till your garden with this after your crop is up. This tiller is 10x harder to use than a front tine. I have tried many adjustment's and can't make it work like I think it should, I have a 30 plus year occupation in farming grain so I'm not mechanically challenged. I Hate it don't waste your money. I am going to try to get my money back, thinking I won't get far with this. Do Not Buy One.

Had to replace my worn out seventeen year old 8HP 21? tiller, so far this is a big improvement. Starts easily without electric start. Electric start uses a power cord plugged in to a wall outlet, no on board battery to lug around or replace after a few years. I really like the swing handle so you can walk to side of tilled dirt. Much easier to handle than old tiller. Does a good job!

This seems to be a pretty well built tiller, however, if I'd have know the STUPID engineering they've put into the electric start, I would not have bought this thing. You can't just turn a key, or mash a button and start it. The starter is 120 volt electric, and has to be plugged into a wall socket, in order to use the electric start...Don't waste your money on this, if you're looking for convenient electric start.

I purchased this Sears Tiller about 10 months ago. I needed to prepare my yard for putting down 35 pallets of sod. My house was just build and the land had been a pasture and part quarry. This tiller worked perfectly. I tilled the ground down to about 7 inches. The soil consisted of hard packed soil, many rocks and large boulder. Some of the boulders were over 40Lbs but the tiller just pop them out and never broke a share pin. After I finished the yard I cleared a small aircraft runway across my property. That was a challenge but the tiller came through. My neighbor saw how well it worked and borrowed it to put in his garden. Maybe I got a better tiller than some of other reviewers but I am very pleased with mine and it continues to work great.

This is the worst tiller on the market! After only one season hasn't got enough power to dig in lose sand! Over rated and I wouldn't waste my money on it, way over priced investment. Wouldn't give them $0.02 for one agin!
