Tear Up Some New Ground with the Craftsman Rear Tine Tiller
Every avid gardener's dream tool, the Craftsman 208cc dual rotating rear tine tiller is designed to make light work out of heavy labor. Whether you're breaking ground for new garden plots, planting trees or shrubs, power composting, or plowing furrows for plants, this tiller will give you the muscle and strategy to get the job done. Its rear-tine design makes tilling jobs more efficient, while the four self-sharpening 13 inch tines are crafted from heat-treated steel for superior strength. Combine that strength with their counter rotation and you have enough power to pulverize uncultivated soil, sod, compacted soil and even clay along with small roots that still maybe underground. You might even say tackling hard ground will now seem like a bed of roses.
The easy-to-use Craftsman rear tine tiller is equipped with a powerful 208cc OHV engine that runs cooler and more efficiently while designed to last longer. The foam grip adjustable handles make tilling or transporting more comfortable by allowing you to choose the most suitable height and maintaining the right tilling depth. Its chain-drive transmission ensures flexible maneuverability in varied conditions by letting you easily move forward and in reverse and helps provide the ground-piercing power you absolutely need. Ideal for larger areas, the Craftsman 208cc dual rotating rear tine tiller will have you effectively covering more ground in less time with its 18 inch tilling width. The 16 in. pneumatic agricultural tires on the front provide greater traction and optimal balance letting you navigate in both cultivated and muddy soil. The steel serrated trail shields protect your feet and vegetation reducing the amount of dust and debris thrown by the tines' rotating action.

AFTER BUYING THIS TILLER AND EXPERIENCING A FEW WEEKS OF RAIN I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY USE IT. SHIFTING IS HORRIBLE, SO MUCH THAT YOU PRATICALLY HAVE TO JERK THE LEVER TO CHANGE SELECTIONS. I USED IT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND WENT TO CHANGE THE OIL. FOR THE LIFE OF ME AND AN AUTO MECHANIC WE COULD NOT REMOVE THE OIL DRAIN PLUG. I ALSO ABOUT THIS TIME HAVE THE PULL CORD HANGING ABOUT 6" OUT OF THE SPOOLER. IT WILL NOT WIND IN COMPLETLEY.
IF I WERE YOU I WOULD NOT BUY THISD MACHINE. I HAVE HAD IT OVER THE ONE MONTH WARRANTY RETURN PERIOD AND AM NOW STUCK WITH IT. I ALSO RETURNED A MOWER THAT I JUST PURCHASED FROM SEARS BECAUSE OF THIS.
Before buying, read all the reviews and I had the salesman check the tires to see if one was backwards with the fill valve inside. It was. We checked the floor model and another in a crate - same problem. We looked up the parts list, and only one wheel assembly is listed, so it is not a QC problem, but a poor design. Assembly was fairly easy, and started on first pull. Unfortunately heavy rain delayed my use for a week. Finally got it in the garden yesterday and discovered a curious problem. My soil was still a bit damp, but with more rain coming, I needed to get it worked. It was not muddy, and didn't cling to the tires, but it did pack up in the tine shield and created a barrier at the front that pushed loose soil up into the wheels and bogged everything down. This was in reverse tine mode after the initial pass. I was trying to deepen the till level in the garden. In hindsight, I should have set it deep on pass #1. I had to switch to forward tine mode, which is an adventure on soil not tilled deeply yet. Be very careful in forward tine mode - it will take off at a high rate of speed if hard ground is encountered, or you don't stop soon enough at the end of the row. At one point it hit the sod at the edge and literally kicked up a foot in the air! All in all, it is a beast and will pulverize hard soil in short order. Experience and practice will make it easier and less grueling to operate I am sure. Another issue, ( again experience will likely correct ) is that is very difficult to maintain a straight line. The wheels like to favor lower areas and softer areas, so it is constantly slipping off course. Occasionaly to the point of stopping and backing up to re-align the row. Also, as mentioned, be careful in reverse! It is faster in reverse gear and will move toward you quickly! Not dangerous, just be prepared! All in all - I do like the tiller for initial ground breaking and deep tilling. I will use my front tine for the final pass and seed bed prep due to ease of getting straight lines and less gouging at the end of the rows (the rear tines tend to leave a fairly good hole at the end of each run)
i recently purchased this tiller after much research, its a real workhorse in heavy/clay soils and operates more like a soil processer than a tiller but its not a bull dozer with auto pilot, and takes getting use to, it has a excellent governor and following standard rear tine tiller procedures will produce results like units costing far more. and is the best value under 800$ when on sale.ill be getting the furrow accessory and making a few more to really expand its versatility.

Works as advertised. switches gears fairly easily, decently powerful, If it had more power I would give it 5 stars. Deals with small rocks no problem. It does not like rocks any bigger then "fist" size. otherwise it has been doing a great job of tilling my very compacted backyard to get it ready for sod.

I rented a front tine tiller and then purchased this rear tine tiller. The difference is night and day. I have used it for two summers and it still works great. Starts on the first pull and has all kinds of power.
Priced great and works wonderful. Excellent value and Craftsman is a good name. We looked and a bunch of brands and this one had the best features and nicest quality features. Highly recommend this unit.
This is a tiller that will till for you in the toughest of situation. Ruggedly built, plenty of horsepower, and both front and reverse gears. This tiller is a 'must' if time and the quality of the tilled ground matters to you.
Had been tilling the yard to strip out grass with a front tine tiller with the same horsepower engine. The front tine tiller was difficult to operate and barely scratched the surface of our fairly hard and compact soil. This Sears tiller was easy to operate and dug down very deep with little effort on our part. This tiller worked 4 to 5 times faster than the front tine tiller with less effort on my part
