Imagine our surprise...
The salesman almost talked us out of this tiller because of such a limited warranty. However, we took it anyway. Who would of thought how well it would work in our horrible, rocky soil! We took about 35 wheelbarrows full of rock (average size 4" - 14" river rock) out of our 700 sq ft new yard area. Very rocky, lots of colichi. We took our time, and made three passes in order to get it ready for our sod. It worked like a trooper! We are very pleased with our purchase. And we figure it almost paid for itself with the rock we 'relocated' to our driveway and won't have to buy. We would definitely recommend this tiller to anyone! Now, if it just had a conveyor belt system to automatically spit the rock out where we wanted it.....

Tiller Tines have Quality Issue - Poor Welds

I bought this Tiller to rework my Garden Laws. Was initially impressed as it was a step up from the small Honda tiller I had previously borrow. However it the LH tine broke after around 25 hours tilling over 4 months. Another tine broke after about another hour use.

At this point I brought the tiller back into Sears where I had to pay $39 diagnostic fee even though it was under warranty and clearly a design flaw. I told them there appears to be a quality issue with the welds on the tine and to please replace them all.

Well I finally got the tiller back yesterday after over 3 weeks and they replaced only the two broken tines. I asked the manager if I was going to go though this ordeal again if another breaks and he said this is just the way it is.

So finally I was glad to get back into this and finish my tilling so I can resow my lawn. Well one hour in I have just had another tine break (This time on the right). There goes another 3 weeks without my tiller just when I need to get this finished.

So unimpressed with the quality and service from Sears and Craftsman. I had orgianlly picked this over competitors product because I was expecting better service from Sears. You live and learn.

Buyer Beware!!!

Great buy

I bought a Craftsman Front Tine Tiller in 1986 and it gave me good service up until last year. I just bought this Craftsman 208cc Front Tine Tiller and I just finished tilling my garden space and it performed exceptionally well with all the power needed to till the rough unbroken earth. This tiller does not shake the hold body similar to the old front tine tillers. Presently I am very satisfied with this Front Tine Tiller. I will recommend this Front Tine Tiller to others.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Worked well the first season

I was spoiled by my neighbor's rear-tine monster tiller, but bought this anyway. It handles well and makes quick work of my already broken in garden area. Bought April 2013 on sale and used a few times over the summer. Always started immediately and I could till up my large area using about 1/2 gallon of fuel. Unfortunately, I tried to start it the other day around X-mas, and it will not fire. Guess I'll try a fresh spark plug and fresh gas and see what happens. I have a Craftsman riding mower and a 4-stroke trimmer as well and both of them have endured my abuse, starting right up even if I leave them sit for a few months. I haven't encountered any broken parts like others have, probably because I haven't tried using it to break up new ground...

transmission sucks

This tiller worked great for about 15 months. Then a bearing went out on the transmission. You have to replace the whole transmission for the bearing. Transmission costs over $300.00 for the part. Not worth replacing the transmission for the price. Replacing it with a Troy-bilt tiller.

Craftsman tiller

This Rototiller is well built and sturdy, the motor has plenty of torque to get the job done this is my first season with it, ripped through sod like nobodys business, does kind of beat you up but that's ok

I would recommend this product to a friend.

BETTER THAN A RENTAL

I recently rented a rear tine tiller to cultivate behind my house to place a stone patio. However; the tiller that I rented wouldn't even cut through the first inch of top soil. After some frustration I drove to town and bought the front tine tiller at our local Sears store. Got it home filled it with oil and gas and it cut like it was cutting butter. I don't mean black dirt, I'm talking about backfill (red clay, rocks, nails, etc.) It helped me uncover a major problem with our drainage pipe around our house; so I'll get to that patio next. So all in all thank you for making my job easier. Next year we plan to use it to actually till up a garden.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

problems

I had purchased a tiller about 20 years ago that is very simmilar to this one that i purchased 7/12. I had pretty good luck with it and thought i may be able to salvage some parts if needed. Well i used this tiller no more that an hour last year and it worked very well but after using it about an hour this spring a weld broke loose where the two metal parts that the wheels are mounted on go into a Y. I have a welder so i welded it myself. Then after about another 2-3 hours of use the rod that you lift up on to engage the tines broke loose (weld) from the flat metal that connects to the cable. I checked and it is still under warrenty but i would have to load and haul it to the repair center which would take me almost an hour then i would have to go back over and pick it up another day not to mention the hassel of checking it in and out. So i have disassembled the part last night and will weld it up later today if i have time. FYI I shorten the sheet metal to get through narrow rows.

Power to spare

It was easy to assemble even for a small woman like me. I enlarged my garden by tilling a 20' x 15' section of lawn. It eat through 3/4'' roots and tilled up 6 and 7 inch rocks with no strain on the engine and no bent tines. This tiller has all of the power you'll ever want. The only improvement to this machine would be a wider wheel base. Because the wheels are rather closely set and have some play it was harder to keep in a straight line and turn than it should be. I intend to have the farm equipment shop down the road weld a 5 or 6 inch extension to the wheel shaft, spreading the wheel base. That will make this the perfect tiller at a great price. Hey Sears engineers, widen the wheel base and this is a 100% winner!

Tiller

It runs OK and tills the garden OK so far, but the first time I used it I hit a rock and it dented the housing around the tines. It is built much cheaper than the old one that this replaced. The old one was 10-15 years old. This one seems like it won't last near as long as my old one did. I have a small garden and don't plan on tilling up a big area so this one might be fine.

Front Tine Tiller is a Front Line Diller!

No complaints. Started on the first pull and worked all afternoon. Solid construction; quality medium to large garden work horse. Price is right: with tillers like this renting for $65 a day, this baby will pay for itself in no time!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
