My first new mower in 12 years, what a difference a decade makes. Easy to assemble, much lighter easy to start and quieter. Yes, the My Stride takes some getting used to and it's a little tricky on hills, but I can live with that. We'll see how it holds up from a durability perspective.
Just got mine, easy set up, just adjust the handle and assemble the grass catcher, fill it with oil and gas and you are on your way. I have a average size lot with full St, Augustine grass. I do not bag my clipping and was concern about the mulching ability. It handled the 4 inch grass blades without any problems. The performance was outstanding. The walk behind accelerator was easy to get use to after a few a laps. If your are considering a lawn mover? This one has all the bells and whistles with the exception of a key start at a great price.

After reading the reviews decided on this model. My lawn has a gentle slope. Works great going up hill, has plenty of power in tall grass using the exhaust shout. Mulches well in the shorter grass. The rear wheel drive and large wheels make mowing a breeze.
The "My Stride" function was nearly impossible to control when I first tried out this mower. The problem is that there is no resistance on the speed control bar when you go forward, so it jerks & stops, over & over. I fixed the problem by using a bungee cord attached to the pull-start bracket, running under the bottom handle and attached to the red speed control handle. Gives good resistance to pushing forward, and does not hinder stopping.
I had a craftsman mower for 13 years before I finally gave in a bought a new one. After the initial period of getting used to the way this My Stride mower handles, I would say it is the best mower I ever used. Cuts beautiful and inclines were no problem. I bought this in April and took it to the Sears repair shop in July only to find out it needs a new transmission and a gear case and a carburetor clean out... And on top of that, I won't get the mower back for almost 4 weeks! I did purchase an extended warranty, but this repair is covered under the original warranty. I have spoken to no less than 6 Sears/sears.com/sears repair center employees today only to find out that I will be stuck with a 3 month old "refurbished" My Stride mower. They will not replace the mower if they can fix it. I have never had a transmission go in any mower I have ever used. Obviously, this mower is a lemon. That being said, I am sure I will eventually get my money back from using my extended warranty over and over and over again the next 3 years if this is they way this all started. I am very disappointed in the way Sears is standing behind this product.
I recently bought a Craftsmen "My Stride" mower. The handle was very comfortable, but as you mow, the handle (that controls speed) naturally moves back and forth a little, so the mower speeds up and slows down all the time. This happens on slightly rough terrain, hills, and around tight curves - extremely frustrating. The tendency to do this is almost impossible to avoid or correct for. Even if you could - you would be concentrating the whole time on the effort required to do so, as well as the effort to just mow the lawn - unacceptable in my mind. This seems to be an excellent mower, but when I returned it to Sears, even the salesman said that it really is only good on smooth flat lawns. So if you plan on using it to mow football fields, it should work great!
I purchased this mower about six weeks ago. I used to have a Toro Recycling with Pacesetter. I selected this mower because it had the My Stride feature and that it had a larger rear wheel (and rear drive). Something Toro does not offer with the Pacesetter. Overall, I had been somewhat satisfied, until yesterday. Up to yesterday, two things bothered me. The mower is not as smooth in the My Stride feature as the Toro. The mower often jerks forward rapidly when you really want it to just start off slowly, which is annoying in some tight cutting areas. The other annoying item I noticed is that the mower did not cut the grass evenly. I noticed this mostly in areas that I would cut on a curve, like around an oval flower bed. This problem might have been related to what happened yesterday. This was about the sixth or seventh time I used the mower. I started it up (it took several pulls, all the other times it started on pull one). As it ran, It sounded louder with a knocking sound. I wear ear plugs, so I couldn't tell what the noise was. I stopped the mower and checked the oil. It was fine. Restarted it and the noise was even louder. So, I stopped it right away. I backed it up onto my driveway to turn it over and as I backed it up, I saw that the mower blade had fallen off with the bolt and securing metal plate. Needless to say, I was fortunate that it didn't spin itself out from under the mower. I needed to sharpen the blade, as it was badly scored, and then I reattached the blade, as tightly as I could. Hope it was tight enough and much tighter than the factory job. I was lucky.
I purchased at first a mower that was suppose to be ultra quiet and stronger then this one. It was horrible so I got this mower and it is very great! I mean this engine plows through any terrain like butter. Yes I am sure it has weaknesses, but I have not seen them yet. Also it always and I mean always starts with one pull. It uses very little gas. I have a customer with about a 20,000 sq ft property it might be more. I mowed the whole thing and it still had little gas left. Now some people do have difficulty with this mower running the drive. I will put on here a trick to make this mower so easy to use. If you place one hand on the drive you see you have another handle below which is the main handle bar. Place one hand on the drive and another on that bar. That will make things 100% easier for you. Once you get used to this mower it outperforms any I have used.
