a rubik cube to put together
This is the hardest lawn mower to put together and get to run that I can imagine. I tried for a day by myself, then two neighbors came over to help (one is an engineer), we still couldn't get it to run. I then returned the machine to sears, where a helpful employee showed me the tricks that were involved.

      excellent lawnmower

I purchased this item during black friday. Not only was the price great, it also cuts the lawn perfectly. I especially liked the fast that I can change the height of cut so easily. Assembly was easy and took maybe 15 minutes.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      My Stride

'My Stride' is a good name. I mow fast. With conventional 'self propelled' mowers, I ended up pushing it. Best mower I've ever had. Cuts clean at any height and mulches well. Previously had a Toro 'Personal Pace', but like this much better. Really like the easy height adjustment vs having to do each wheel. Good bag capacity and easy/clean to empty.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Great lawn mower

This is my first self-propelled lawn mower and I must say that I am very pleased with the purchase. Part of my yard has a bit of an incline to it, so the self propelled feature really helps in getting the lawn mower up the hill. I took it out of the box, assembled it in less than 10 minutes, added oil and gas and it started on the first pull. I hope this mower proves to be a handy tool for years to come.

      Powerful Mower

So far this has been a great mower. Starts on the first pull every time. Simple height adjustment. Has plenty of power to pull the mower even in our steep ditches. It does take a little bit of time to get used to the "My Stride " feature.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Good Overall

Fairly easy to assemble. My only assembly gripe would be putting the grass catcher bag on the frame. Would it really have been that hard to ship a bag already put together? Started 1st pull out of the box. Unit is complete, minus gas of course. Handle assembly is kind flimsy, it mounts in plastic on the deck and there is no reinforcement bar about half way up the handle just above the bag(i.e. think ladder-like). Love the MyStride self propel, and the fact that it's rear wheel drive. I tend to walk pretty fast and this mower keeps up with me easily. The black metal blade clutch bar could use a soft/foam cover as it can pinch hands if one is not careful. Engine seems powerful enough to handle most everything I have thrown at it so far. This mower seems of average weight considering it's dimensions, and the fact that it is self propelled. Lots of plastic on this model. The black plastic MySride trim piece under the red self propel handle LOOKS nice but wants to come off all the time, and is made of extremely flimsy plastic. I may remove it completely if it becomes a problem. Bagging is average. It catches grass, but I have yet to remove the bag where it is packed full. Probably better to empty the catcher more often as grass tends to spill out a bit. This is due to the leading edge that sticks out where the chute on the mower deck connects to the grass catcher. The catcher itself had two pins that stick straight out to hold the bag securely on the mower. Unfortunately, if you use paper lawn waste bags, these can be cumbersome and in the way depending how you dump clippings into the waste bags. Also, the chute area under the door tends to accumulate clippings that must be dug out from around the door hinge, and next to a weird protrusion/shelf. I assume this is the cover for the self propel mechanism, but its unusual design allows clippings to spill out of the bag and accumulate on one side of it. I have not mulched or side discharged with this mower yet, so I am unable to address the effectiveness of either feature. Used this most of the summer and one pull starts every time. I noticed when I first got it, there was a white puff of smoke that would always happen on start up. Chalked it up to engine break in as it seemed to diminish over a period of weeks. Then I started it a few days ago and sizable cloud belched from the exhaust....a little concerning. Overall, I'm pleased with this mower, more than satisfied, just a few minor gripes mentioned above. I rate this a 'very good' based on the overall value. Got it for just under $300 on sale, so as long as I can get 5-10 years out of it, I think I will have gotten my money's worth. A solid value and decent performer, especially if purchased at a sale price.

Great, but I'm surprised about some things

Replaced my 13 year old Craftsman with this one. I went over a stump last year and it was never the same and seized / damaged main bearing (?). This one was on sale and reviews seemed good. The stride feature was very strange at first. It actually hurt a bit. However, after the 2nd cut I go the hand placement right and have to say, it's a great feature. My old self propelled sometimes pulled me, or when full went too slow. This one, no problem. Time as always will be the real judge, and that is my concern. The metal housing seems light and thin. Many plastic parts, and more cables to break. Also, angle on the fuel tank refill cap is strange. Still not sure about why I would use the oil drain plug vs. tipping it and draining through the dip stick. I did the 1st change after 6 hours of use and the tip method worked fine. Bottom line, good mower if you can catch it on sale for low $300s.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
