The instructions were not clear enough for me to easily install the bag frame. I kept trying to put the u shaped at the bottom before I finally realized it goes on top and is outside the bag. Engine took a couple of tries to start but since then it starts on the first pull. Shoots out blue smoke when first started. I'm well satisfied with its performance and price.
The gas filler tube is angled downward so when you put a funnel in the tube you cannot add gas without spilling. I had to jury-rig a funnel with sandpaper to keep the funnel upright and not spill gas. The oil drain plug is set nearly on the deck making it difficult to access and extremely difficult to drain, which is recommended service after the first 5 hours of operation, without making a mess. The drain plug takes a 13/32 socket which means you should have a pretty complete socket set to open the plug efficiently. You are reminded of these annoyances every time you add gas or contemplate draining oil. Then you wonder why you bought this particular lawnmower from a designer who didn't know enough to avoid such inconveniences. The washer connection for cleaning underneath the mower works well IF you wash after EVERY mowing. All things considered, I would have bought a different mower.
a little difficult to put the grass catcher basket together.. as the instructions need to give a more exact description of the process. Other than that the mower is easy to use and does a fantastic job of getting the job done. The gas can I bought additionally- to go with this product had a spout that is a living nightmare to use and broke the first attempt at pulling the lip down to fill the tank. Overall I would recommend the lawnmower but find another option for gas can. . . it cuts well and quietly and easy to handle.
Just picked this up the other day and am happy with it so far. Started right up on the first pull, don't forget to put the oil in it!!! It had been a while since I mowed my yard, and was getting quite long. The mower blew right through it. My only gripe so far is that the MyStride system is a bit touchy when you're getting used to it, and it is torquey! I specifically wanted a rear drive mower as I'm 6'5" and often find that I pull the front tires off the ground based on the angle of everything, now this mower does a bit of a wheely if I hit the MyStride thing too hard. I like the side discharge too as I hate bagging grass.
I have used Craftsman mowers all my life. My dad did too. I only give away the old ones when the warranty has expired. All I have to do is put the old one at the foot of the driveway with a sign saying "Free to good home. New blade. Off warranty. 12 years old. Needs carburetor de-gunked. Owners manual attached." They disappear within the hour. Craftsman mowers just keep getting better and better. This one is a bush-hog disguised as a mower. City services used to weed-whack our ditches, but no more. This baby cleaned out that 54-foot long ditch in three easy passes. The weeds were 2 to 3 feet high. The "My Stride" feature is the smartest thing you've ever come up with! I waited until Summer was almost over to write this review. One-pull starting is the answer to a prayer for an old lady. It's one pull! Every time! A sudden summer storm came up one day when I was in the house getting a glass of cold water. I nearly wept! When the rain stopped, I went out to see if it would start and it did! One pull! I dried it off and put it away 'til the grass was dry enough to finish mowing. Did I mention the catalytic converter? Craftsman is the best. Always has been, always will be.
Always had toro so a little skeptical but really like everything about this lawnmower especially the my stride and it does really good with mulching

Out of the box the mower looks fine and easy to assemble. However, the start cord somehow got stuck. It just does not move. Tried to call various sears support numbers and was told to bring it back to the store where they said either to return it or wait for about 2-3 weeks to get it repaired. I returned it.
Very ,very pleased with my purchase...Easy to start. It start on the first pull every time. Just love that feature. Love the rear wheel self propel option. It works great.. I have some incline in my yard, and It makes cutting a fun process., Love my Mower.
