21" 179cc Single-Stage Electric Start Snowblower Clears with Ease

Winter often brings heavy snows, but the Craftsman 21" 179cc single-stage electric start snowblower is here to ensure that you don't have to do any backbreaking shoveling. This powerful little machine works even in deep, wet snow. Just start the machine with a push of a button and clear snow straight down to the pavement on your sidewalk or paved driveway. A self-propelling mechanism helps take the weight off of the job.

Enjoy the freedom of not mixing oil and gas in this 21" 179cc single-stage electric start snowblower. The four-cycle OHV engine has separate reservoirs for gasoline and oil, simplifying the maintenance process while improving fuel economy. The Snow Claw auger breaks up clumps and sends snow flying to exactly where you need it through the 190-degree adjustable chute. An electric start ensures that you can fire it up instantly every time, no matter how cold it gets. The two-year limited warranty ensures that you'll love your purchase.

  • The Craftsman 21" 179cc single-stage electric start snowblower is ideal for up to a six-car driveway, easily keeping all your pavement clear
  • Snow Claw auger ensures that pavement gets completely cleared of snow, ensuring you don't have to clean up any missed snow
  • Durable 8"x2" wheels make it easy to move the snowblower when not in use
  • Auger pushes the machine forward whenever it's in use so all you have to do is steer
  • Mitten-grip starter handle lets you put the machine to use without removing your gloves
  • Ergonomic handle makes it easier to steer and grip, giving you the best possible control while moving snow

Craftsman 88780 21" Single Stage Snow Thrower/Electric Start
No back breaking job anymore after purchasing this very nice machine. Purchased it in January, 2011 just before we were hit with more snow north of Pittsburgh, PA. I'm 70 years old and female. I have a flat double cement driveway about 70' long. After last winter I had to do something after all the huge snowfalls. I receive Consumers Report! In the Februay, 2011, issue they rated the best snow blowers. I went on a mission! I researched both the two-stage and the single-stage gas machines listed with intensity! I knew I couldn't handle the larger two-stage gas machines at my age. After researching seven single-stage gas machines, I settled for the Craftsman 88780 and I'm not sorry!! Purchased through the website - store within 5 miles of me - two in stock. In 10 minutes received a call from the store confirming my order. The conformation e-mail came in shortly after. I was dredding putting it together, but I went and picked it up the next day. Wow! It was on the floor with my name on it and all assembled. I felt like hugging the salesman. He folded the the handles and put it in my van. I unloaded it. Read through a little of the manual and went to work. Added regular gas, oil in the oil tank, hooked up electric, inserted key, primed engine, set choke to start and hit the switch. Backed off the choke slowly to run. Purred like a kitten! Let it run, shut off and decided to try the pull cord. No problems, but the engine was already warm. I was ready for snow!. I've used it 4 times since purchasing in several 6 inch snowfalls. No problem at the end of the drive where the plows left huge stacks of snow. Dug right through it! No complaints what-so-ever!! It is so easy to use and saves my old back. It has only used a half tank of gas. Easy to handle, choke position is fine with me. Easy to turn snow direction. Blows snow from middle of my drive over to the yard. I start down the middle and blow snow toward each side. To save on the paddle, use a little common sense. Let it pull you along easing over the snow without abrasive contact with the pavement. The 88780 is great! Consumers listed it as Best Buy and I agree! I did go and look at 2 other brands before purchasing the 88780 on line. Save your time researching the single-stage machines because I did it for you. Believe Me!

new carburetor after three uses?
Purchased three months ago. Heavy as all get out, but worked like a champ with more torque power than my old 2-cycle unit. But after three uses, with a new gas can and new unleaded (not ethanol) fuel), it wouldn't start. Took it to Sears repair center. A week later got a call that carburetor required REPLACEMENT because it was "clogged with stale fuel". It would not be in warranty, cost to repair $114.73. Called service center and since it was so new, I was offered to remove the labor and pay only $49.74 just for the part. I asked how to avoid this problem in the future. Was told I should run fuel out of the product after every use, use fuel less than 30 days old, fuel stabilizer doesn't tend to work, and the problem is largely because of additives to gasoline sold by gas stations. Seriously? I have to buy "the right kind of gas" and in any case run it empty after every use and anticipate if it will snow in the next 30 days or else dump my 30+ day old gas?

Snow blower

Delivered on time, easy assembly. Works well but does not always start with the pull cord, a few time I had to connect the electric start to get it going., but once on it delivers well.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

A bargain for $189 at my local KMart! Plan to add some Fuel Stabilizer.

Grabbed this the day before winter storm "Pax" 2/13/14 on clearance at my local KMart in Pennsylvania. Brought it home, poured in the 20oz bottle of oil, added fresh gas and she started right up after 3 pumps on the primer & 2 pulls. Lots of power, fairly quiet and easy to maneuver around the cars in my driveway. It's much heavier than my old Lawn Boy 2-cycle 320R single stage, but throws the snow much farther and is also much quieter. After reading some of the comments regarding gummed up carburetors because of the Ethanol in todays gas, I plan on adding some B&S fuel treatment/stabilizer to the tank before next start-up.

Snow Director Chute Is Arthritic

From the get-go the lever that rotates the chute and directs the snow has been creaky then croaked out. Sears has worked on twice. No help. Note in looking at reviews others have had this problem. Sear repair person says same. I'm so sorry we bought this.

It does the job...

I did a lot of research before I purchased this snowblower. We have had 4 snowstorms in the past few weeks and it has been doing great. It is definitely built for light to medium weight snow. If you use it right, it can pick up what's been plowed into the driveway but you have to do that a couple of inches at a time. The most recent storm came with rain, ice, and heavy snow. It did great on the sidewalks and driveway but not too great with clearing on the street to get the cars out (but that was not snow? it was slush, ice and water?) I give this machine a thumbs up. Haven't needed to use the electric start yet cause the pull fires up the engine just fine. A few good pulls and the engine roars. I would definitely recommend buying the protection plan? If you don't have a sears nearby make sure you purchase the IN-Home Repair. The Auger on the machine somehow came apart and I will be bringing it in to have it repaired. Hoping it doesn't take too long to get it back, 'cause I foresee more snow. This snowblower has saved my back!!! And gives me more time to play with my kids. Definitely recommend for light to medium use.

Multiple issues NO MORE CRAFTSMAN!!!

Same problems as others. First unit started spitting oil all over after second use, returned. Have to replace plastic scraper every few uses. It is double sided so it can be spun around once which brings it up to seven or so uses. I didn't notice this at first so the metal housing is broken, i added some bolts to keep it together. Also have had carberator issues. Also plastic handle to adjust chute angle broke. Craftsman products have done nothing but gone downhill. I had a craftsman mower i used for one season and returned because the wheel height adjustment would change while mowing. Got a troybuilt with Honda engine from ***** and used for five seasons without an issue. It was cheaper as well. Other issues with craftsman as well. Don't have the time or energy to deal with crappy products. It's a shame, but i don't make money to throw it away. NO MORE CRAFTSMAN!!!

Excellent Snowblower

This Snowblower does the job for us. Just plug it in to charge it and then "go to town!". Great size for handling, I like moving the direction of the thrower myself. No frills, not complicated to use, (179cc) powerful enough for medium size driveway. Handles well, not to cumbersome or heavy to handle. I am very satisfied. It is perfect for our needs.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Workhorse

Buffalo Winters especially the 2013/14 one are no joke. Only the hearty survive. Snow may look pretty on the Christmas cards but in reality you get drift mountains from the blowing snow, ice ridges in your driveway apron from the municipal plows, and worst of all the snowy acre mile that is the walkway from your house to the sidwalk. I needed a machine to handle it all. But I also needed a machine with reputation for quality and reliablity, so I went right to Sears.com found this machine and ablity to have it shipped to my door, perfect so far. Out of the box, this machine is big and heavy before you add the gas and oil. Assembly was cumbersome and little overwelming for a novice non technical, non engineering older person. Once assembled, and put to the test this snow blower perfomed as expected; cut down my pathway, across the snow ridge in my apron, and plowed right through the drifs along the way. I read some of the unfavorable customer reviews regarding the performance issues wihere the carburator malfunctioned and rendered the machine useless unless the fluids were drained at the end of the season. I did not read these customer reviews until after I had bought the machine. I relyed on my research with Consumer Reports and my past experience with craftsman machines when making this purchase. Since this is my first season with this machine I will follow the directions in the manual and depend on the warranty and Sears reputation to stand behind this machine in the even that anything goes wrong.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
