Started on very fist pull
My last Craftsman mower lasted for years until I bent the shaft. I decided to just get a new one rather than pay a lot of money to get an old mower working again. This new mower was easy to "assemble" out of the box - just unscrew, pull handles all the way out and screw again. Adding oil was a bit annoying - awkward location for filler. Use a funnel. But, honestly, how often do people actually change the oil in a mower. :-) I filled up the gas tank, then gave it one relatively gentle pull after priming. It started right up and chopped up some overgrown stuff leaving no visible debris.

Think before buying
This product is not "Senior user-friendly". A major disadvantage is the placement of the oil fill tube. It is located behind the muffler under the blower housing, in the engine block and above the mower deck. The oil full tube cap and dipstick are difficult to remove with very limited "finger" space. I would not recommend this mower for seniors and/or others who have problems stooping/bending over.

Overall
It's an okay lawn mower, but time will tell how long it lasts.

I guess I had higher expectations, everything is made so cheap these days. I thought Craftsman made a quality product, but this is mediocre at best. I guess I was expecting more, it does cut grass good and is easy to push but I did notice a little bogging and my grass wasn't that long, I wish I would have bought one with the 190CC motor for another $25.00 or so. As mentioned in another review the oil fill plug is in an awkward location, I had to remove the plastic engine cover to have better access. I read to drain the oil you have to tilt the mower on it's side and the oil drains out of the fill tube, there's no drain plug underneath. I guess you get what you pay for, I have a 1986 Snapper and it still runs but the self drive went out and it's heavy to push manually and I don't want to repair it due to its age. I paid over $400.00 for that 28 years ago and I replaced the motor once and did some repairs to the self drive, but this mower was half the price years later so maybe I'm being a little to critical. It looks like most mowers in this price range are built by the same manufacturer from the looks of them. I can't comment on bagging, I usually just mulch the grass and leaves. The wheel adjustment is nice, you just adjust one side for front and back, and it does start easily, usually the first pull.

Overall
craftsman lawn mower

1 hour into using I was very satisfied with this product. Until I was on the final stretch of my yard. Upon pulling the string to start the mower. The string got pulled into the mower. At first I thought it got caught under the the blade. But upon further inspection I realized that it was taken into the string assembly. This all happened within the first few hours of taking it out of the box. Needless to say I didn't get to finish my yard.

Briggs and Stratton Mower

This mower is very smooth running. It is easy to assemble and starts smoothly. I would recommend this mower for smaller yards. Raising the deck was no trouble.

Last Mower

We bought this because my wife got tired of cleaning grass clippings out of her flower beds. Don't expect it to start first pull out of the box,the fuel system needs to be completely primed but after initial run-in just four pumps on the primer bulb and one pull-it's purring like a kitten. I didn't intentionally get the high rear wheels but I'm glad It came with them. It's a breeze to maneuver, a slight push down on the handle bar and the front wheels are 4-5 inches off the ground making it easy to swivel around obstacles(did I mention flower beds?) or to change direction at the end of a pass. The center bag lets it trim close on either side of the deck(flower beds again) and the bag just lifts off and on but still seals tight to prevent dust or clippings escaping. The only complaint and a minor one; I had to tie the back of the bag up to the frame to keep it from folding under when pulling the mower backward after about 1/4 full, but there's a strap sewn on the bag right where I needed it. This mower is ideal for a small to medium lawn, anything bigger and you probably have a rider anyway. If my experience with Briggs&Stratton is any gauge, this should be the last push mower I ever need to buy. I wanted to wait until I'd used it several times before writing a review and it has proven to be an excellent choice.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Unbiased Review

I purchased this in 2014 to replace the "Silver Edition 550" 158cc craftsman purchased in 2010. The mower works, but it chokes in heavier grass unlike my last one (Who knew 18cc would make a big difference.). Pros: Lighter Easy wheel adjustment Less expensive Cons -compared to previous model Weak/ weaker engine the chokes in heavier grass Plastic bag holder, gas tank, and adjustment pins (plastic fades, breaks and wears out faster) vs. metal on the last mower. Slightly smaller bag, but I could be wrong Shorter push bar (I'm 6'2") which causes me to slump while mowing. Overall I would recommend visiting the store and looking over the floor models to see if the fit/finish vs. price are acceptable. I'm not going to return it, but will get a higher quality mower next time. Despite my contentions this may be a very good choice for those of you on a budget.
