I have owned many lawnmowers and only had to do general "maintenance". This mower broke in the first season. The drive broke first. Early the next season the mower would not start. Took to independent engine mechanic and could not fix. After purchasing a warranty from Sears they replaced the short block. Brought it home and the same thing happened. Poor design - do not buy, very frustrating mower.

We have over 1/2 acre of land and we have a few slops but mostly level and it does an outstanding in mulching the lawn. Even my wife like using it. We purchased directly at the local Sear store and the salesperson was outstanding and very knowledgeable about this product. We purchased it when it was on sale and we received Sears points for the purchase. It replaced a name brand mower that we purchased from the big box store just a two years ago because the store would not stand behind the warranty. Very quit running and hopefully it will last several years.
So powerful, much better than the front wheel drive! Easy to use the grass catcher. We had a Craftsman Front wheel drive before, and this one has it beat hands down! So powerful, if you have a lever all the way down, you would be running behind it! No kidding! Best mower ever!!!

I had a Sears more before, only problem it was a front wheel drive. I have sloped side yards and had to help push it up hill. This rear wheel drive model is wonderful! Pulls me up the hill! Starts on the first pull.

First rope won't pull out even if depressing the blade control. After a couple of wiggles, finally got the rope out. It started with the first pull, but the grass catcher did not fill up. The drive control worked. But I had to run to keep up. I didn't get to adjust it yet, after only 5 minutes of use, the mower stopped. Now the blade is stuck. I am returning it tomorrow.
plenty power great for large areas, not the handiest in tight quarters. It does not turn easily. I was spoiled by my last mower which had swivel wheels on front. Starts at once, moves smoothly, fairly quiet. chose the speed you need and adjusts down to a slow pace.;

After extensive research, I settled on this mower. I've had it several months now. I have no issues with this mower except it blows a little smoke sometimes when it's started. I'll probably take it in and have them look at it at the end of the season. It has plenty of power. The bagger works well. You can regulate the drive speed by how hard you pull on the lever. It starts 1st pull. I did add a gas line shut off valve and run it dry each time since we only have gas with ethanol in this area.
I do a lot of research before the purchase of any motorized piece of equipment and I'm glad I chose this mower. This is VERY easy to assemble. If you can't figure out the minimal assembly required on this machine, you shouldn't be mowing your own lawn! One note: be sure to check all fasters before using the mower. I did find a couple bolts that were slightly loose under the deck from shipping. This mower has great power - pushes the mower like a freight train from the rear wheels! I read some reviews about how the mower hesitates, then takes off like a rabbit. HELLO-read the manual! Any self-propelled mower may need a slight drive control adjustment upon purchase. It is often more pronounced in a rear-wheel drive application such as this. Mine did experience some symptoms of this, but it was CLEARLY covered in the manual. It is a VERY simple **** adjustment, located directly on the drive control lever on the handle. A quick 15 second adjustment engaged the drive control smoothly and without hesitation. I can control speed easily after the adjustment. Again, if you can't figure this out you shouldn't be mowing your own lawn! I will agree with some of the reviewers on needing a larger/longer hand to grab the drive control lever. The mentioned adjustment relieves some of this, but I quickly got used to the longer reach and I don't have particularly large hands. I was a little concerned about going "backwards" from a 22" deck to this 21" deck. I couldn't find ANY 22" rear-drive mowers from ANY manufacturer that didn't have a wider rear tire stance than the front wheel stance, or didn't use the "personal pace" drive control system - not a fan of either of these designs. I'm glad I "settled" for this 21" mower. It cuts like a 22" and cuts/bags so effectively and efficiently I didn't have to empty the bag any more times than my previous Craftsman 22" mower which had a larger bag! And man, does this cut beatifully with the factory blade! I am OCD on my 1/3 acre lawn and this mower cuts more beautifully than mowers I've used that cost a couple hundred dollars more - no joke. They really do mean "precision cut" system! And, like past Craftsman/other mowers I have used with the reliable Briggs & Stratton engine, this starts on the first pull every time and has plenty of power. Just be sure to use NON-ETHANOL in all small-engines - you will eliminate any fuel related problems! Although a little hesitant to give this "little" 21" mower a try, I am VERY happy I did. And I am very happy to be back to a rear-wheel drive mower now that I have more intricate landscaping to work around. It is much easier to control and meneuver that a front-wheel drive application in a difficult landscape, and the traction and power at the rear wheels is SOOO much better. This is an extremely great value on this mower: between sales and add-on special offers I paid $300 for this mower, which was well over $400 orginally. DO NOT hesitate to give this mower a try!
