      Good Mower so far
Since this is a new Mower and there aren't many reviews yet, I figured I'd take the time to write a real review on it for people thinking about purchasing. Bought this mower last week and have only mowed my yard once with it so far. I will update this review if the mower gives me any reliability/durability issues. These are my initial impressions: PROS 1. Easy to assemble out of the box. 2. Comes with an extra blade, which I didn't expect. 3. Is about half as loud as my old mower, which had a Honda engine. 4. After adding oil and fuel, mower started up on the very first pull! Never had that happen before! no need to prime or mess with a choke either. Have cold started it a few times and always starts on the first pull and pull is easier than I am used to. 5. Good power for a 175cc engine. 6. Mulcher cuts nicely and mulches the grass into very fine particles. 7. B&S engine says MADE IN USA if that's important to you. CONS 1. Deck is stamped sheet metal and seems a bit flimsy. Wish they used a slightly thicker gauge sheet metal, even though it would add weight. OR...I would have been willing to pay extra for a cast alloy deck if it were available. 2. Lots of plastic parts. Experience has shown me that plastic parts will sometimes outlast metal, but it remains to be seen how durable all the plastic on this mower is. 3. Deck washer hook-up only works okay and you still need to tip up the deck and shoot it out from below if you want to get the bottom of the deck really clean. 4. Handle is pretty uncomfortable. I will probably wrap it with some padding, but Craftsman should have designed it a little thicker for comfort or added some foam padding. 5. Paint quality seems good on top of deck, but bottom of deck is only about half sprayed. I will probably spray the bottom myself to keep the rust away a little longer. All in all, for price I got this mower for (on sale), it seems like a great value and so far seems like the best mower I've ever owned (my 5th mower so far and the first Craftsman mower) My Dad's Toro Super Recycler is better, but also costs twice as much, so it doesn't seem like a fair comparison. So far I like it a lot better than my old mower that it's replacing, which was a Husqvarna 7021p with a Honda engine, and it only cost me about $40 more than the Husqvarna did.

      Quiet Motor but....
Bought after looking at ALL of the options out there available. Liked the idea of a quieter engine. Was excited to try it out this morning. Ran quieter like advertised. And has power to cut through my winter rye. Front drive was nice. My issues are the following. Was pretty hard to pull the starter. Several times it didnt even budge. Grass catcher does not hold a lot. Seems to be at the wrong angle and all of the grass bunches up at the bottom of the door. Had to scoop a hand full each time. Front wheels did not disengage after letting go of the drive handle. Had to drag is in reverse. Going to try it again next weekend. If things dont get any better, going to take it back and try again.... Still a Craftsman fan though.....

      Perfect lawnmower for my yard.

I got this lawnmower to replace a battery operated mower. This mower is much quieter than any gas operated mowers I have used in the past, which was one of the features I was looking for. The large wheels in the back make it easy to maneuver around trees and flower beds, which is a great help with a small yard like mine. The grass catcher has only been about a quarter full when I finish mowing, so that might give you a sense of how small an area I have to cut. Overall I think I will be very happy with this for a long time. My last Craftsman mower lasted over 20 years until I had to replace it, and I expect the same from this one.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

No More Craftsman Mowers for Me...

Prior to purchasing this mower last season (2014) I owned a Honda Harmony mower purchased in 1993 - it ran reliably and mulched well for over 20 years! But it was slowing down and always struggled with thick or wet grass, stalling frequently. So time for new mower, I decided to give a Craftsman a chance - and now regret the purchase... Pros: On the plus side, this mower engine is powerful and it never stalled. But the plus ends here. Cons: 1. The most critical is it does not mulch or mow grass very well! It leaves swaths of uncut grass throughout the mowing pattern and frequently required 2 passes - no matter how thick or how slow I mulched. 2. The front wheel drive slipped frequently and was less manageable than previous rear wheel drive. 3. The handle was cheap - twisting and rattling already. 4. It was no quieter than my 20 year old Honda - the Quiet Power is clearly a marketing gimmick. Maybe its quieter than a standard Briggs & Stratton but my benchmark is any mower. 5. And finally, the deal breaker, while mowing this season, on the 3rd mowing, the bolt holding the blade on broke in half dropping the blade out the back of the mower while my son was mowing! With existing negatives already leading up to the blade incident, I went out immediately and bought a new Honda HRX mower. With both mowers side by side, I now regret the purchase in the first place. So I will replace the bolt, put it back together and sell it or donate it to Goodwill. No More Craftsman Mowers for Me...

Not quite what I was expecting, but it's ok.

Bought the mower basically because it is supposed to be quiet. It may be a little, but only by maybe a decibel or two. Of course, that's my opinion and I had no sound meter to justify what I'm claiming, other than what I hear. Other than that, the mower cuts well, and starts up easily. The only problem I have found, and it doesn't happen all of the time, but sometimes when I pull the mower backwards, the front wheels stick and they drag. It's almost like they are locked in place. Anyway, I'd say it's three stars out of five. Just wish it was more quiet.

      Unfortunately a bad experience

Preparing this mower for it's first use I noticed the throttle and drive cables rubbed against the rear wheel and thought this is a poor design. About four rows into it's very first mow the engine shut down - turns out the plastic housing that holds the throttle and drive cables broke free from the handle - the small plastic (cheap) fastener broke off making the mower useless! Now I have a mower full of gas and oil and trying to get to Sears (via phone or web) for assistance has been a nightmare. Yes, it was quiet but not as quiet as I saw in other reviews - it's still a lawn mower! Not sure how I'm getting this back to the store yet or how much more time I'll waste but it's going back. By he way, the Shop Your Way easy curb side pickup also failed (due to ":technical difficulties") on a rainy day. I had to park and go inside and help get the mower into my car. All around bad experience.

      Mowing is fun again

I've used Craftsman mowers for the past 20+ years. This is my 3rd mower and as you might guess, things have changed since my last purchase. I purchased my mower in the middle of the summer (2014) and as of this writing, used it a number of times to finish the summer and mulch leaves in the fall. I have a steep embankment in my front yard so the self-propelled feature is a life saver. The incline is so steep (about 60 degrees) that I cannot mow 'across' but have to go directly up or down the embankment. I am able to engage the self-propelled mechanism and the mower pulls up the embankment easiy. I especially like the trigger-like handle to engage the wheels. It is a variable speed trigger which works perfectly when maneuvering around trees and shrubs. If your yard is the size that you'd use a push mower instead of a riding mower, this mower has plenty of power to tackle any size yard. The mower does not have a primer pump (button), so I was not surprised to have to pull twice on occasion to start the mower after a week of storage. However, anytime I have to stop for a few minutes while mowing, she starts up with only one pull, even a half pull. Living in the midwest I waited until almost all the leaves had fallen (December) to mulch. I lowered the blade level a notch or two and was very satisfied with the results. My wife had raked some of the yard into piles and I plowed right in and the piles almost disappeared. I came back over the mulched area with my bag attached and 'vacuumed' up a considerable amount which was then recycled. In areas where we had not raked, the mower did a fantastic job mulching. Switching from mulching mode to bagging mode is very easy. The way the bag fits insures that the yard waste will be blown into the bag. I was impress with the minimal amount of dust when mulching my leaves. With this mower comes a number of safety features. Everything appears to be well designed to not only provide safety, but maintain effeciency. (I.e. the safety features don't get in your way!) The mower is marketed as a 'quiet' mower and it does seem to be quieter than my previous one. However, it is still a mower and it makes noise. So, the neighbors still know you're out there mowing. Overall, I am quite pleased with this mower and would highly recommend it.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
