Product Description

The Craftsman Turn Tight Riding Mower Powers Around The Yard

When your time is of the essence, the Craftsman 42” fast riding mower will power through and get the job done with confidence and reliability. A two cylinder 724cc Briggs & Stratton™ Platinum engine produces 22 horsepower* that pushes this riding mower forward at a speed up to 7.5mph, perfect for a quick run through big yards or up hills. The 42” steel cutting deck mows down wide swaths with twin off-set steel blades, but is small enough to manage obstacles such as trees, fences and gardens. There are 10 positions that adjust with a spring assist to raise or lower the deck to 1 inch off the ground up to four inches. Craftsman’s Turn Tight technology lets you turn your riding mower in a 6 inch radius for precision cutting around corners and obstacles along with quicker mowing on larger yards by shortening your turn arounds.

The automatic transmission on the Craftsman Turn Tight riding mower eliminates having to find the perfect gear for long runs or mowing up and down hills. Just like driving your car, put this yard tractor in gear and hit the gas pedal to go, the more gas you give it, the faster you mow. The infinite speeds on the auto transmission also make for optimal hauling capabilities so you can tow a bagger or lawn roller for your yard to look perfect. And when you’re working, enjoy some comfort with a cushioned sliding seat and integrated cup holder.

  • The Craftsman 42” fast yard riding mower can cut along with cut and mulch with attachments that are sold separately
  • The Briggs & Stratton Platinum engine is a four cycle so there’s no mixing oil into the gasoline
  • The frame is stamped steel with a cast iron front axle for long lasting durability and reliability, making this riding mower the last one you will need for years to come
  • Attach a snow thrower or snow blade to this riding mower for year-round utility
  • The frame and front axle come with a 5 year warranty; there is a 2 year overall warranty on the tractor

Model # 91720390 - you will love this tractor!
I use this lawn tractor for dethatching, aerating, bagging leaves, hauling potting soil/pine straw/plants/tools and lowering the grass height for Winter. Cutting during grass growing season is not an option for me. Walk-behind mowers give a better cut than any lawn tractor. This is my second tractor. The gas tank is not easily removed for emptying/cleaning. Fuel stabilizer is required if you must leave gas in the tank-(read the manual). The powerful quiet engine burns a lot of gas. TRANSMISSION: works smoothly in forward and reverse. Release the brake and slowly apply pressure to either the forward or reverse pedal. Set Cruise Control if desired. Forward/Reverse Pedals are not a problem. In fact, the pedals are much better than the hand operated lever. The turn-tight feature will eliminate cutting in reverse. You're going to love this tractor! ACCESSORIES: Mojack 300 Lb Tractor Lift, Precision Products 42" Dethatcher, Classic Accessories Deluxe Tractor Cover and a 3 Bin Bagger works well with this tractor. THE 2014 TRACTORS: have vents in the hood (top and side). Inside storage or a carport with tractor cover is highly recommended. ******* Online carries the Classic Accessories Deluxe Tractor Cover for $59.00. Lots of great reviews. My delivery was free!

Nice tractor but Transmisssion is a step backwards.
Just got this new model this week, but no grass to mow yet so only driven it around the yard for 30 minutes. I like: the new style hood, smooth & quiet engine, tight turn, cruise control, seat is comfortable, nice deck lift mechanism and deck seems easy to take off / put on. But new automatic transmission is very jerky going into Forward or Reverse, often making a big clunk sound - its sure not nearly as smooth as a hystat that I am use too. The forward speed control seems very smooth once you get it going - the tractor really flies (maybe too fast at full speed). No variable speed in reverse, it is just on or off. With little or no modulation going into F or R, it's tough to inch in to tight places in the garage or hook up things. The reverse pedal is hard to use - too stiff and not easy to use (can't use your heel like Hystat pedal controls). I haven't decided whether I can live with this tranny or not - hoping it will get more controllable with use? Also the free wheeling lever out the back of unit is so thin (like a coat hanger wire) that it bends when you pull it - gives a poor perception of value, for a tractor that costs this much.

So far so good

Have this tractor about 2 months, researched heavily before buying (was also considering a Deere D130/40) am happy i went this route. I have used it to bag leaves, dethatch and cut spring grass it has performed well. The turn tight is a nice feature as i mow a residential lawn (about 3/4 acre). While other comments have taken issue with the transmission, I think its worth noting that its a tractor and "smooth" starts and stops are open to interpretation, I think it is splitting hairs in this price range. On the other hand the General Transmission new CVT transmission is much more durable than the Tuff Troque hydrostatic trans in alot of other tractors (including the Deere) . Time will always tell but so far i am pretty content with this (Husquavarna made) tractor

I would recommend this product to a friend.

So Far so good

Tractor delivered the other day, few test drives around the yard so far. Comfortable seat and pedal position for a 5'10" guy. Transmission engagement is smooth and speed control is pretty good with foot pedal. Reverse has multiple speeds depending on how far you push the pedal down. Tractor is very quiet.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Problems

This is my third Craftsman 42" mower in ten years. I decided to try the new model with the foot throttle rather than the fender control. I liked the faster speed and the compatibility with my bagger. While the mower deck worked fine, I disliked the foot throttle/clutch control very much. The pedal was too high, engaging it was awkward and tiring and the engagement was very jerky. I need a very smooth engagement and the ability to creep slowly so this arrangement was dangerous in my application. If the unit had the fender control rather than the foot pedal, I would have kept it. But, I had to return it because I felt the danger was too great to keep it. Luckily, there are still some older models with the fender control available so I'll buy one of those. At the very least, take this unit for a drive BEFORE you buy it.
