Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® Fast Riding Mower A Machine For All Seasons

Whether you're wading through the weeds after the spring rains or clearing the driveway after a winter storm, the Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the power to make quick work of the job. It also has the finesse to make tidy work—with a 6 in. turning radius, this machine will squeeze around trees and fences where many riding lawn mowers just don't fit. The generous 42 in. blade means fewer laps around the yard. An adjustable deck can raise up to four inches off the ground, letting it chew through heavy growth. Its top speed of 7.5 mph, plus its automatic transmission, makes it a dream to operate on rolling expanses or up or down hills.

The Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® fast riding mower has a 4-cycle Briggs & Stratton™ engine that runs on gasoline only - no messing with oil mixing. Its frame and front axle are built of stamped steel and cast iron that are durable enough to last and sturdy enough to handle attachments ranging from a lawn roller in the summer to a snow blower or thrower in the winter.

  • This Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the speed and the power to make quick work of the lawn, even if it's several acres
  • The Briggs & Stratton™ engine can go up to 7.5 mph
  • The 4-cycle engines runs on gasoline
  • The 42 in. mowing deck adjusts to 10 positions
  • The frame is stamped steel and the front axle is cast-iron
  • An automatic transmission ends awkward shifting
  • Snow blade or blower attachments are sold separately
  • The frame and front axle are backed by a five-year warranty
  • A two-year warranty covers the rest of the mower

So far so good
Have this tractor about 2 months, researched heavily before buying (was also considering a Deere D130/40) am happy i went this route. I have used it to bag leaves, dethatch and cut spring grass it has performed well. The turn tight is a nice feature as i mow a residential lawn (about 3/4 acre). While other comments have taken issue with the transmission, I think its worth noting that its a tractor and "smooth" starts and stops are open to interpretation, I think it is splitting hairs in this price range. On the other hand the General Transmission new CVT transmission is much more durable than the Tuff Troque hydrostatic trans in alot of other tractors (including the Deere) . Time will always tell but so far i am pretty content with this (Husquavarna made) tractor

Nice tractor but Transmisssion is a step backwards.
Just got this new model this week, but no grass to mow yet so only driven it around the yard for 30 minutes. I like: the new style hood, smooth & quiet engine, tight turn, cruise control, seat is comfortable, nice deck lift mechanism and deck seems easy to take off / put on. But new automatic transmission is very jerky going into Forward or Reverse, often making a big clunk sound - its sure not nearly as smooth as a hystat that I am use too. The forward speed control seems very smooth once you get it going - the tractor really flies (maybe too fast at full speed). No variable speed in reverse, it is just on or off. With little or no modulation going into F or R, it's tough to inch in to tight places in the garage or hook up things. The reverse pedal is hard to use - too stiff and not easy to use (can't use your heel like Hystat pedal controls). I haven't decided whether I can live with this tranny or not - hoping it will get more controllable with use? Also the free wheeling lever out the back of unit is so thin (like a coat hanger wire) that it bends when you pull it - gives a poor perception of value, for a tractor that costs this much.

Great tractor so far

bought this tractor to replace an old "green" craftsman that I retired to simply pulling my swisher 60" finish mower. Wore the deck out but everything else keeps going... This new mower has tons of power, but takes time to get used to the new steering, tip is to only turn as tight as you need. It will turn very tight, but will also tear up your lawn if you turn too fast and tight. As far as the new cvt transmission, so far its been stellar. runs up hills pulling a cart with ease, pulls my swisher offset also. pedal to move is a little high but hey its got cruise so not a big deal, I would recommend to anyone.

Excellent Purchase, Great Rider.

I bought this model after a lot of research and could not be happier. This was a gift to my wife Wanda, how cares for our yard, since I am a disabled Veteran. She loves riding around the yard, mowing 2 sometime 3x a week. The total price I paid was $1599 (sales tax, shipping included), was delivered 6/6/2014. I am waiting for the snow plow and chains, as my wife will be using it to clear our driveway this winter.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Vroom vroom.

I have the T3000 22HP. I picked it up brand new at a Sears outlet just before Spring at a discount. When you lift the seat deck, the model/make label shows that this is actually a rebadged Husqvarna. The engine starts and runs reliably. The mower is fast too...but you don't want to cut your lawn at 7.5 mph. The auto transmission is sensitive and can be jumpy if you have a lead foot, just be gentle. I have just under 1 acre of generally flat lawn that is part of a dry detention basin and this machine saves me so much time. I haven't had a problem with wet, heavy grass or tire rutting. The seat is comfortable and the mower is easy to mount and dismount. There is no speed selector/transmission handle to get in the way. The deck height lever is on the left hand side and doesn't get in the way. I didn't realize how convenient it is to be able to mow backwards too. Left hand side of the mower deck is easily visible for trimming right up to fences, borders, and your typical lawn obstacle course. I also love how nimble the mower is, the 6" tight turning radius is a great feature.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Step Forward

Am using this mower to maintain 1 acre of a 6 acre property. This is a nice step forward with the foot throttle, but engaging this throttle is frustrating. Literally have to stomp to get it to engage first thing in morning. Getting reverse to engage if almost impossible. Not sure of problem - still investigating. Although a greater HP than other mowers I've owned (different makers), it appears to lose power quickly on an incline and towing a trailer, even without mower engaged. Turn ratio is great and helps getting into corners and around obstacles. Mower adjustment is easy and works well.

Great Mower

I mow 2 1/2 acres of mostly flat ground, but with ditches and rough spots. This mower mows everything in its path and does not seem to strain at all. Very maneuverable and easy to steer once you get the hang of the transmission. One of the best riding mowers I have ever used.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Disappointed

I researched rider mowers for about 2 weeks and decided on this one. After using it 4 times I've decided to return for the following reasons: It just feels cheap...makes tons of squeaks, chirps, etc. After one use, there was a loud vibration/shaking coming from the engine. Service came out and fixed it quickly - it was the muffler guard installed wrong. So I was hoping all would be good. But then this week, more new noises. Also, while I was attracted to the power and speed, after using it - it's completely useless. I never utilized the need to go full speed except to cruise around the neighborhood. So I found myself holding the gas pedal partially down all the time when mowing - can you say foot cramp? It's very "jerky" too when you go to accelerate. So back to the drawing board. I will say this...Sears Customer Service is AMAZING...they were all very friendly and understanding about this disappointment.

Mower

I was a little disappointed that I have to keep my foot on the gas all the time unless I use cruise control--which I would prefer not to do. My old Craftsman had a control for drive instead of a gas pedal, and it was easier to use. I also do not like the fact that I cannot mow in reverse. Otherwise, the mower does a good job, and my yard looks nice when I finish mowing.
