Product Description

Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® Fast Riding Mower A Machine For All Seasons

Whether you're wading through the weeds after the spring rains or clearing the driveway after a winter storm, the Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the power to make quick work of the job. It also has the finesse to make tidy work—with a 6 in. turning radius, this machine will squeeze around trees and fences where many riding lawn mowers just don't fit. The generous 42 in. blade means fewer laps around the yard. An adjustable deck can raise up to four inches off the ground, letting it chew through heavy growth. Its top speed of 7.5 mph, plus its automatic transmission, makes it a dream to operate on rolling expanses or up or down hills.

The Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® fast riding mower has a 4-cycle Briggs & Stratton™ engine that runs on gasoline only - no messing with oil mixing. Its frame and front axle are built of stamped steel and cast iron that are durable enough to last and sturdy enough to handle attachments ranging from a lawn roller in the summer to a snow blower or thrower in the winter.

  • This Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the speed and the power to make quick work of the lawn, even if it's several acres
  • The Briggs & Stratton™ engine can go up to 7.5 mph
  • The 4-cycle engines runs on gasoline
  • The 42 in. mowing deck adjusts to 10 positions
  • The frame is stamped steel and the front axle is cast-iron
  • An automatic transmission ends awkward shifting
  • Snow blade or blower attachments are sold separately
  • The frame and front axle are backed by a five-year warranty
  • A two-year warranty covers the rest of the mower

So far so good
Have this tractor about 2 months, researched heavily before buying (was also considering a Deere D130/40) am happy i went this route. I have used it to bag leaves, dethatch and cut spring grass it has performed well. The turn tight is a nice feature as i mow a residential lawn (about 3/4 acre). While other comments have taken issue with the transmission, I think its worth noting that its a tractor and "smooth" starts and stops are open to interpretation, I think it is splitting hairs in this price range. On the other hand the General Transmission new CVT transmission is much more durable than the Tuff Troque hydrostatic trans in alot of other tractors (including the Deere) . Time will always tell but so far i am pretty content with this (Husquavarna made) tractor

Nice tractor but Transmisssion is a step backwards.
Just got this new model this week, but no grass to mow yet so only driven it around the yard for 30 minutes. I like: the new style hood, smooth & quiet engine, tight turn, cruise control, seat is comfortable, nice deck lift mechanism and deck seems easy to take off / put on. But new automatic transmission is very jerky going into Forward or Reverse, often making a big clunk sound - its sure not nearly as smooth as a hystat that I am use too. The forward speed control seems very smooth once you get it going - the tractor really flies (maybe too fast at full speed). No variable speed in reverse, it is just on or off. With little or no modulation going into F or R, it's tough to inch in to tight places in the garage or hook up things. The reverse pedal is hard to use - too stiff and not easy to use (can't use your heel like Hystat pedal controls). I haven't decided whether I can live with this tranny or not - hoping it will get more controllable with use? Also the free wheeling lever out the back of unit is so thin (like a coat hanger wire) that it bends when you pull it - gives a poor perception of value, for a tractor that costs this much.

Several Problems

T3000 42" 22 HP B&S Engine. After 8 hours of use the transmission would not return to neutral. It would stick in forward or reverse and I had to keep hitting the parking brake to stop the mower. This lasted for 2 weeks and finally fixed itself. Now after 14 hours of use the engine is backfiring and missing. Sorry but it is not bad gas. I have used the same gas in my other power equipment and they run fine. I have run it 3 times with gas from 2 different stations and the problem persists. I called for a service apt. and the tech can't come until one month. If you mow an area where you can't use the cruise control the gas pedal will be a real problem. It is very awkward to get used too. Terrible so far, I'll try to keep you posted.

My first yard tractor

The first push mower I bought was a Craftsman, so when I moved to a house with a bigger yard I figured I would give their lawn tractors a try. This thing has lived up to my expectations. Granted I have only been using it since April, but it has been put through it's paces. My yard is very uneven and pretty rough and this machine handles it very well. The only complaint I have is the starting. About a month ago the solenoid that is between the key switch and the engine doesn't work correctly after the mower has been running for a while. I have contacted Sears to get it repaired and it will be about a month wait, but they were very helpful in setting up and appointment to get it serviced. All in all I'm happy with this purchase and will shop Craftsman again.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great Tractor

Great Tractor, I have used it now for 30 hours of Mowing(so Far) this season. My only complaint is, the grass catcher metal attachment points DO NOT have bigger washers to keep the mounting hardware from pulling out of the Plastic. Other then that this is a Great mowing/working yard tractor!!

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Great service

We have used our local Sears store for many years and we have always had the best service with products and customer service. We needed a new riding lawn mower after ours stopped working and explained our yard size and what our yard also had is a lot of trees, we bought a craftsman 22HP 42? Turn Tight? Fast Riding Mower. This mower is best mower we have owned. thank you to our Sears store in St. Marys, Ga.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Overall
A very good value

I got this on sale for about $1400 which is a very good deal. It's my first lawn tractor so I don't have much to compare it to but I did narrow down my search to this unit and the ********** D125. This deal was too good to pass up. Overall they have about the same features. The unit does go fast although I'm not sure what good it is. It's not like you can mow, aerate or pull a cart at those speeds. It turns very sharp and has plenty of power. Here are the minor criticisms: 1) It doesn't have the best traction. It doesn't take much to get the tires to slip out especially if you are pulling anything. 2) The seat could be more comfortable. 3) The fuel gauge if that's what you want to call it is mostly useless. You can only see if the tank is more than half full. 4) The mulching setup is not great. I get a lot of grass blowing through. 5) I'd rate evenness of cut at about a 7/10. I don't have much to compare it to other than the guys that used to mow the lawn with Walker zero turns. 6) The deck washout does not work very well. In fact, the plastic hose connector doesn't even fit well (the water leaks around it). In any case it does not do a good job of getting all of the grass off. As I said, it may not be perfect but you'll be hard pressed to find a better value. This was less than 2x my old ********** self propelled. In the end I would have gotten a zero turn if not for the desire to have the ability to pull an aerator and cart. Also, I just couldn't imagine a kid working the zero turn without some major issues.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

The mower has a lot of extra pull power that my other craftsman didn't have, love the dual engine, mowing 4 acres is a lot easier now.
