Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® Fast Riding Mower A Machine For All Seasons

Whether you're wading through the weeds after the spring rains or clearing the driveway after a winter storm, the Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the power to make quick work of the job. It also has the finesse to make tidy work—with a 6 in. turning radius, this machine will squeeze around trees and fences where many riding lawn mowers just don't fit. The generous 42 in. blade means fewer laps around the yard. An adjustable deck can raise up to four inches off the ground, letting it chew through heavy growth. Its top speed of 7.5 mph, plus its automatic transmission, makes it a dream to operate on rolling expanses or up or down hills.

The Craftsman 42 in. Turn Tight® fast riding mower has a 4-cycle Briggs & Stratton™ engine that runs on gasoline only - no messing with oil mixing. Its frame and front axle are built of stamped steel and cast iron that are durable enough to last and sturdy enough to handle attachments ranging from a lawn roller in the summer to a snow blower or thrower in the winter.

      • This Craftsman 42 in. 22 HP Turn Tight® fast riding lawn mower has the speed and the power to make quick work of the lawn, even if it's several acres
      • The Briggs & Stratton™ engine can go up to 7.5 mph
      • The 4-cycle engines runs on gasoline
      • The 42 in. mowing deck adjusts to 10 positions
      • The frame is stamped steel and the front axle is cast-iron
      • An automatic transmission ends awkward shifting
      • Snow blade or blower attachments are sold separately
      • The frame and front axle are backed by a five-year warranty
      • A two-year warranty covers the rest of the mower

      So far so good
Have this tractor about 2 months, researched heavily before buying (was also considering a Deere D130/40) am happy i went this route. I have used it to bag leaves, dethatch and cut spring grass it has performed well. The turn tight is a nice feature as i mow a residential lawn (about 3/4 acre). While other comments have taken issue with the transmission, I think its worth noting that its a tractor and "smooth" starts and stops are open to interpretation, I think it is splitting hairs in this price range. On the other hand the General Transmission new CVT transmission is much more durable than the Tuff Troque hydrostatic trans in alot of other tractors (including the Deere) . Time will always tell but so far i am pretty content with this (Husquavarna made) tractor

Nice tractor but Transmisssion is a step backwards.
Just got this new model this week, but no grass to mow yet so only driven it around the yard for 30 minutes. I like: the new style hood, smooth & quiet engine, tight turn, cruise control, seat is comfortable, nice deck lift mechanism and deck seems easy to take off / put on. But new automatic transmission is very jerky going into Forward or Reverse, often making a big clunk sound - its sure not nearly as smooth as a hystat that I am use too. The forward speed control seems very smooth once you get it going - the tractor really flies (maybe too fast at full speed). No variable speed in reverse, it is just on or off. With little or no modulation going into F or R, it's tough to inch in to tight places in the garage or hook up things. The reverse pedal is hard to use - too stiff and not easy to use (can't use your heel like Hystat pedal controls). I haven't decided whether I can live with this tranny or not - hoping it will get more controllable with use? Also the free wheeling lever out the back of unit is so thin (like a coat hanger wire) that it bends when you pull it - gives a poor perception of value, for a tractor that costs this much.

ONLY GAVE IT A STAR BECAUSE SEARS MADE ME

Got this thing home. Noticed that the front wheels are not aligned. Followed pre-operating instructions from the manual. A loud noise came from under the seat. It will start but will not go anywhere. The forward/reverse pedals are loose and don't do anything. TOTALLY INOPERABLE & HAS NOT CUT ONE BLADE OF GRASS!!! I am so disgusted. The only reason it is not going back to the store TODAY is that I live 1 hour away and it's 45 minutes until closing time.

Great value for price, doesn't compete with the best

I love this mower for $1600; it's a great value and has terrific horsepower, turning radius, size, and features for the money. Coming from a $4000 Simplicity I have learned over this past 12 months that it's $1600 for a reason. Mainly the quality of cut is ok but getting it leveled to create the flattest cut required a number of small, critical adjustments and even at that it's not nearly a good as the Simplicity. I remain disappointed in this area and unfortunately I am reminded of it after every mowing. The seat, while ok, is not shaped properly to keep my 6'3', 220 lb frame completely settled. When mowing parallel on a even a moderate hill it tries to slide me off the side every time. They need to take note from Simplicity who got the seating right 15 years ago. Leg room adjustments are ok so I can achieve a comfortable legroom situation. Mechanically this mower is great; terrific power, enough torque to tow a homeowner aerator around with ease, more than enough speed, and a very tight turning radius. In these terms it compares very nicely to the twice-as-much Simplicity. If you're looking for the best cut possible you may find that other options will deliver this a bit more easily and with better consistency. If you're looking for features and value - this is it.

      Poor customer service, poor quality

Bought this mower 4/15/2015, waited a week for the free delivery, fueled the mower, test drove around the yard, began mowing my .80 acre lawn, didn't get half way mowed when the tractor would no longer move! The engine ran, but the mower would not go in reverse or forward, upon investigating I realized the drive belt had burnt in two. Called the repair number, gave the part number to the lady who set up my appointment, took 2 weeks to get someone out here, to be told he didn't have the part to fix it and it would be another 3 weeks before he could get back to fix it! The technician did order the parts, which I was going to be charged for in the amount of $210 because he said this was my fault the drive belt broke!!! Needless to say I have scheduled a pick up for the mower to be returned, and money refunded! As for the tractors speed and turning radius, it was nice while it lasted, but is a pretty rough ride, and cruise control only works if you're running wide open. I'm pretty upset because I did 3 weeks of research and decided on this mower over a Deere from consumer reports websites. Lessoned learned, if it sounds too goo to be true, it probably is!

      22 hp 42" turn tight

not happy with automatic transmission, have to hold your foot on pedal too much, also not happy when mowing deck is on mower cuts off if you try to back up, not happy with cable system for engaging blades, laying across deck, and not happy with wheels on deck, you have to remove them and put into different holes in bracket. Like the adjustable type that I had on my old craftsman. Happy with performance, it is fast, maybe too fast, reverse a little slow.Almost started to buy a ktz1 cub cadet until I found 22hp engine is reconditioned, but had a better power train warranty. May take this mower back and exchange for a manual transmission or get a refund and pay 50.00 more for a cub cadet. Would recommend to a friend if you have you have 4 acres and can use cruise control more consistently or get a manual transmission and not have to hold your foot on power pedal all the time. What were engineers thinking and who did they get their feed back from, I hope not from the consumer.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      great mower

One the best value out there. I researched mowers for months and found out this mower has many features that makes it a great buy. Got it home and was not disappointed, I have a large yard with a lot of things to go around and the 42 in deck is perfect size

      Missing Parts

Tractor was a good value but was missing a pin and the directions on removing the cutting tools to just use the plow were unclear. The plow also needs to be able to be raised higher for driving over uneven surfaces.
