I use this mowing 10 plus acres at a time in often a former burned area. I defiantly use it and test it better than They Probably do in the factory. All I can say is this is not built for anything than your cookie cutter elegant lawn. I run this thing for easily 5 hours at a time through rough terrain, up steep hills and in dust that will clog up an air filter in seconds. My starter motor has gone out twice and the fuse has gone out multiple times. Oh did I mention the tires are like balloons? I drive over a small cactus like all mowers should be able to do and what do you know, the tires go flat. The mower doesn't mow in reverse which is pretty annoying and inefficient. The fender shifter has cheap sheet metal that guides the shifter in its positions. When doing precision mowing in the trees that sheet metal bends very easily and is very annoying when you jam it in to reverse. The blades aren't bad and the deck wash is nice. The hood is pretty flimsy and bends pretty easily if you hit something. Now for the good. Major pros on its towing ability. I tow 50" trees with it and it will tow my f-150 with ease. It has a plenty powerful engine and cuts beautifully at full speed. Iffy gas mileage. 1.5 gallon tank lasts 1 hour. I think they could have put better tires on it for rough terrain but they get me around. Comfy seat that's high and doesn't fatigue the driver. Good steering wheel and plenty of power to get up a steep hill. Great battery and has a great parking brake that allows for it to be towed easily. Good tied own points in front and back. The transmission disengage is in a great place and is pretty simple to operate. Fuse is right behind the plate that the transmission bypass rod is at and attached by a plastic cap. It takes a 20v fuse. No problems with the tractor running for 7+ hours with ought stopping. I would recommended this to someone who has a lawn. But someone who uses for work and mows heavily, buy a Deere. It's a better tractor, better built and will do the hard work.

I did some extensive research for a tractor for my yard. I was using my father's 1997 Craftsman 42" with a 15.5hp Kohler all summer with hopes of using it to plow in the winter because he wouldn't need it. I have a very big hill in my front yard and my driveway is also a decent incline. The 97's Kohler is still running like the day it was purchased but the hydrostatic transmission was beginning to slip in my yard by the end of summer. Once that started happening I knew it was time to get my own new tractor before the old one was destroyed. I purchased this LT2500 w/ the 22hp Kohler. The difference between the old Craftsman and this one is HUGE. This tractor will power up and down my hill with not even a sweat. When mowing the turning is much more precise, and you can mow at a much faster speed. The blade levels make it very easy to cut your grass very short if you choose. It WILL mow in reverse if you simply unplug the yellow wire under the left rear fender where the transmission lever is. What I really like the most about this tractor is the price point and having a Kohler motor in it. The next tractor that you can get is over $2000 with a Kohler. I really wanted to stick with a Kohler after how well it treated my father after all the years of work and use. If you're looking for an affordable tractor that without losing the benefits of a more expensive tractor, this is the one for you. Don't be fooled by paying a lot more money for the green and yellow one, it's practically the same tractor.
I have owned this mower for 6 months now. It seems to be holding up pretty good so far. It cuts even and level since the day I got it. I have had the drive belt pop off once and the deck blade belt come off once, but no reoccurring problem. This mower does seem rather thirsty, or maybe it just needs a bigger gas tank. The engine seems to have plenty of power, hardly ever bogs down cutting thick grass or leaves. And I would guess, it shoots out the grass/leaves 8-10 feet from the mower when cutting. About the only complaint I would have is, I would much rather have a foot controlled drive rather than fender, just because when mowing in tight places or around a bunch of trees, you need both hands on the wheel steering, which makes it hard to slow or speed up the mower. And I shouldn't even complain about that, I bought the mower because of the price, and didn't want to spend the money on a nicer mower with foot control. Just a little problem on my part, this mower works great in wide open places though.
this riding mower is an excellent machine. It is very comfrotable to be on for an extended amount of time. It is very easy to operate, and does a great job
I had reservations about getting another Craftsman after owning one about 10 years ago. Mostly I was concerned about doing my own maintenance due to physical limitations. The sales rep showed me step by step how to drain the oil, change the mowing blades, air filter, and oil filter. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it is to do these things now. This model is a considerable upgrade over my previous unit which required the deck be removed before changing the blades. I had my choices narrowed down to the ********** 110 and this unit by MTD. This unit matches or exceeds all specs of the JD110, including mower deck size, HorsePower and is $600 cheaper. Hard to argue with those numbers. With the savings, I opted to get the 3 year at home service plan which covers just about everything except routine maintenance. The seat is more comfortable with the high back seat. In my opinion, it looks cool in Black! Now that maintenance is a breeze on this lawn tractor, I expect it to last a long time and I walked out of the store feeling confident I made the right choice and got a great price.
This tractor has too many safety features, such as no mowing in reverse. If the driver is not aware of his/her surroundings when mowing, they should not be operating ANY type of driving power mower. This machine is not for the novice, he/she must have prior experience with driving mowers before attempting to operate this safely anyhow. As far as children being around when you are mowing, they should be NOWHERE near ANY type of lawnmowing PERIOD!
I bought this lawn mower, LT2500, after my LT1000 engine cracked and stopped working. I had three problems with this model: 1. The delivery from Sears had a flat front tire. I tried to inflate it and it it just went flat again. I called Sears support and they said a new tire will be sent to me in 5 days. After 5 days I am still waiting and there is no tracking. I now resolved to replace the tire myself with the one from the dead LT1000. 2. I was mowing the lawn and the belt that run the deck blades kept dislodged for no reason. I think there is some problem with the belt tensioner but I am not sure how to fix it. 3. For bagger, Sears support advised me to buy the craftman 42-46 bin bagger but the lower chute doesn't fit well with the deck open at all. Very disappointed.
Just finished cutting the grass for the second time with this mower. Great cut and fast! For the people saying you can't cut in reverse, it takes all of about 3 seconds to bypass that feature. There is a plug under the left rear fender just below the speed control. Unplug it. For the people saying it doesn't give a smooth cut, You need to adjust the deck wheels lower. Set your deck to your preferred cut height then lower the deck wheels until they are about 1/4"-1/2" above the ground and it will smooth out your cut. I had a Craftsman 42" mower with a 15.5HP Kohler for 12 years and sold it to a guy for $100 when I bought this one. The motor still ran as well as the day I bought it. With proper maintenance, I see no reason I won't get the same service out of this one.
Purchased this mower about 5 months ago after looking at many others within $200.00 of it's cost. I have close to an acre that is mostly level and this mower makes short work of it while doing a nice job. Only have a couple of small issues; First off, the mulching kit that was recommended was junk but very easily modified by me,( little mechanical aptitude). Secondly it would not cut in reverse, (a major pain in the ****). I overcame that safety issue by disconnecting the yellow wire under the left rear fender. Works just fine now. Yes there are much better mowers out there if you want to spend the money for them, but for me this mower has cut my lawn every 4 days or so without fail.
