Not the greatest in craftsmanship, but certainly good enough

I bought this to gauge the neck relief on my bass guitar, and it's certainly good enough for the job. That said, I do have some reservations: The lettering on the leafs are not in black colors (as suggested by the picture) but etched (laser?), which probably means it won't erase but it's just a little harder to read than I would like. The mechanism around the leafs being held inside the case also feels just a bit flimsy: The nut feels a bit rough, and the holes in the leafs are slightly bigger than the center screw that holds them such that the leafs wobble a bit inside when you untighten the nut. I also see a few leafs that are rough around the edges to the hole side. All of these little things probably won't affect usability for anyone, and I'm certainly satisfied, however I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't feel as nice as an old leaf gauge that I've been borrowing from the lab work bench. One other thing that drove me crazy about the Sears website: Why aren't the blade sizes listed in the specs? For those that are wondering, here you go: 0.0015, 0.002-0.016 (in 0.001 increments), 0.018, 0.020, 0.022, 0.024, 0.025, 0.028, 0.030, 0.032, 0.035.

Looks good!

I have yet to find a time to use these, but after looking them over should work very well. I don't use feeler gauges as much as I used to, as only 2 of my vehicles need regular valve adjustments. I will probably be using these this spring on my GL1100 Gold Wing.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

How can you complain about this, they are all in spec. and you have enough of them to measure very accuratley.

This is a good product.

Good quality. Easy to use. I like the adjustment screw which allows you to easily separate the specific gauges you need for a project.

Craftsman 25 Leaf Feeler Gauge

I love to work on all things mechanical in my spare time.  I imagine it's because I ride a desk all day...ugh.

My dad was a mechanic and it seems to have rubbed off on me as I love to work on cars, lawn mowers, motorcycles, shoot, anything with an engine!  In doing so there are times when a feller gauge is required to meet a close tolerance without eceeding it.  One example would be the valve lash on a Chevy 350.  One cannot simply eyeball or guess at this.  No, you must use a precision measurement tool like the thikness gauge.

Another use I have for this tool goes to a hobby that most people would never think of for a feeler gauge, and that hobby is woodworking.  You see, I have a very old table saw and, unlike newer saws, it doesn't have a micro-adjust feature on the rip fence.  In the past, I have had to guess the fine tuning of the rip fence through trial and error.  Now, I can use the thickness gauge to take the guesswork out of the equation for me!

In short, I can make small adjustments simply by clamping a block of wood to the opposite side of the fence that I want it to move to (either inboard or out) and then use the thickness gauge to make the fine adjustment.  If I need a little more, then like in the car world, I simply bring two blades together and, there you have it, a micro adjustment!

Made of good steel, this tool, if kept lightly oiled, should last you a lifetime!

I would recommend this product to a friend.
