I purchased this set for the number and type of drawers and because of some space limitations in my garage:
- 59619N 8 drawer bottom chest,
- 59603 3 drawer intermediate chest,
- 59618 6 drawer upper chest.
The units stack well and appearance is good, although the frames are spot welded on the corners of the case and both ends of the drawers. These show through the paint quite clearly.
The drawers were easily removed and replaced and it did not take long to put everything together. After shopping around there are some areas these chests could be improved:
- The sheet metal of the drawer faces and case is thin and yields/bends easily. The drawers do not all close or latch the same across the unit. All the drawers feel fragile.
- If you put the rated 70 lb in the drawer, the drawer sags and the latching mechanisms do not behave the same anymore. On some drawers you have to fidget with them to get them open.
- The drawers are not tightly retained by the rails and can be easily moved left and right. The Kobalt chests in Lowe's do not do this.
- There is a gap between the drawer faces that averages 1/8" to 1/4" when the drawers are closed. This allows dust and material to enter the chest when you blow your shop out with a blower. Drawers in the Kobalt chests in Lowe's push closed to a detent and leave no gaps.
- Once you buy the Craftsman chests you have to buy drawer liners that cost around $24 for a pack of 6 and they don't fit perfectly. The Kobalt units come with liners that fit perfectly.
- The Kobalt units came with a cover. It would be even more useful for the Craftsman units with the drawer gaps.
- The locking system on the bottom chest is not very robust. This characteristic was inherited from earlier units. When you turn the lock to the lock position, it will not go all the way until the rails in the back of the unit can fall down on all the drawers. You have to fidget with the drawers until they all happen to align well enough for the locking rails to fall. The Kobalt units that go to a detent did not have this problem. It can be annoying if you are in a hurry to get the box locked up before you go.
- On the top box you have to raise the lid to unlock the drawers. It would be nice if the lock would unlock the drawers and lid without having to lift the lid to raise the locking rails in the back.
All in all they are good units IF you don't plan on using them very often. The material choice in my opinion will not withstand repeated use and abuse of a mechanic's daily use as well as some others on the market.

Fits perfect between the top and bottom cabinets I already had. Only comes in black and I would have like the grey.

Works great, heavy duty draws only negative for me is that they don't make a wood top for it as it is supposed to be used with an other part above it and for my application I would have wanted a matching wood top to my other equipment so I have to make it.

I am very pleased with the quality of this chest. The drawers feel & pull the same whether they're empty or loaded ! I work in a large (locomotive) shop, and am using this box inside a locker, to better use that space, and to save time hunting for tools. Inside a locker, there is no room to open the top of a regular toolbox ! Also, the 18-inch depth uses all of the available space, inside the locker. The large drawer is good for "grab-&-go kits" of tools, and impact tools, and I use the top drawer for specialty, not-often used items, like half-moon, and flair wrenches, and gauges, & taps, punches and such. The box is very well-made, and should hold up very well, in this daily-use application. The configuration was ideal to solve the tool storage problem presented by the shop conditions.

I own several Craftsman tool cabinets. You can't beat the value for storing your tools. This middle 18" deep cabinet is my 2nd, (which I use on a 2nd cabinet,) because I like my first one so much. The extra depth makes a difference and fits the 18" deep bottom cabinets for a nice setup. I use Craftsman, Snap-On, Wright, USAG, and a variety of tools, but I like the cabinets to match for a clean, organized appearance.
