bought this a couple years after I already had the top and Bottom. Makesa great add onn. but i agree with the other review, please bring back the mid night blue edition. lucky i know how to paint and have the equipment. waiting to fnd out if i can add another one of these before i do paint them though. IM thinking a bright yellow with Black race stripes to match my 69 ss camaro or Bright Orange with black race stripes to match my 70 ss chevelle, or A pearl white with ghost flames to match my 51 chevy pickup. hmmm can anyone help me with the add another 3 or 2 drawer set?

Degraded Quality

I have been using only Craftsman tool chests since I bought my first one in 1975.  My most recent purchase before today was in about 2003.  I now have 12 of them and needed an additional roller chest, so I bought the 5-drawer, ball-bearing chest.  What a disappointment it was.

It may look the same as the older model 706.650232 from a distance, but it is not.  The back panel came bent or distorted along a row of spot welds.  It appeared to be a manufacturing defect, not shipping damage.  The side panels are just spot welded  to the vertical braces and could be rattled.  In the older model, the side panel and vertical braces were formed from a single sheet of heavier steel.  The handle now attaches with just sheet metal screws.  That may be fine for pushing, but I wonder how it will hold up when pulling or lifting to get over low obstacles.   The channels that support the wheels are thinner and simple L-shaped; the older version has a U-shape with an additional lip on one leg for strength.  Wheels are smaller in diameter and narrower with a much thinner "tread."  In sum, the whole thing feels more flimsy.

I returned it because of the bent panel.  The problem is, is there anything any better today?

Decent build quality, drawers are pesky

The drawers take two hands to open: one to pull, and one to push on the cabinet to hold it in place. I nearly brought the cabinet tipping forward when pull one of the upper drawers because it sticks so badly. Otherwise, it is a decent tool storage mechanism.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Excellent product, very solid and smooth operation. This is the best chest I've seen for the money (on sale) as far as quality goes.

Overall
The Craftsman 5 drawer ball-bearinging bottom chest is perfect.

I upgraded to this chest from one that had drawer slides instead of ball-bearings.  The extra cost was well worth it.  Now the drawers open and close smoothly even when fully loaded with tools.  One thing that I would have liked is if the handle could be located on either side.  There are threaded mounts on the right side only.  It wasn't important enough to drill holes in the side and remount the handle though.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Craftsmen Tool Storage Chest did not meet expectations

The second drawer on this chest would not open for anything. It was completely jammed and would not budge. Of course I could not exchange it because there were none available for store pick-up and I would have had to pay an additional $90 for delivery which I was not going to do. It was not available for store pick-up at any store within 50 miles away!!! It didn't even give you the option of it being backordered---just that it's not available for store pick-up. Very convenient. When I called Sears.com 2 separate times it was the most awful experience. Neither of the customer service reps could tell me anything!!! When I went to Craftsmen website, they referred me back to Sears. So I ended up returning it. This will make me think twice about buying a product like this again from Sears. The sad part was, this was a Christmas present for someone and now I have to find something else after the fact. Very disappointed with the entire process.

Great tool chest.

I have had this chest for almost two years now and love it. It has held up extremely well, it still looks and feels like new. The bearings operate smoothly.

I would recommend this product to a friend.
