Typical great Craftsman quality in this trimmer.
I have a craftsman mower and it has been amazing for many years so I was looking at their trimmer. I hear that the more expensive straight shaft trimmers tend to be more reliable but it just wasn't that comfortable compared to the curved shaft so I went with this model. I am glad that I went with this model for a couple reasons. 1) Power- 27cc is plenty of power and probably more than I even need. I just slightly squeeze the throttle and it easily goes through grass and weeds. It has so much power that I accidentally trimmed some of my wooden fence so be careful around the fence. 2) Comfortable- I was holding the various trimmer models in the store and I just didn't like the feel of the straight shaft. 3) Strong line- The line is easy to change and very durable. I was never a fan of the bump feed and I liked autofeed so I had some doubts about this hassle free line but I am liking it. 4) Starts Easily- It really starts easily for me as I don't need any other tool to start it. There was a time when I couldn't get it started so I looked in the instruction manual and it said in troubleshooting.... "Flooded engine- Hold throttle and pull". I did that and it started right away. I read in online forum that if you press the priming bulb too much that it could flood the engine. When the trimmer didn't start for me, it was after I used it and I pressed it 10 times again which wasn't really necessary and that flooded the engine. Now I know. So don't press the bulb more than necessary and if you flooded the engine, don't pull the line 20 times as it is just flooding the engine more. You just simply hold the throttle when pulling the string and it will start. Don't pull the string too many times because you are just flooding the engine more. The manual has good troubleshooting tips..... Let me talk about some of the complaints from one reviewer. It is under my impression that tall people like who are 6'2" prefer the straight shafts as they tend to be more comfortable than curved shafts for taller people. I read it on the forums and it makes sense. Complaining about it stalling? Never ever happened to me but maybe he had one of the bad ones in the batch. Complaining about breaking a line half way through his front yard? Really?! Maybe he got different lines from mine or he is trimming concrete. These lines are thick and very strong and I have yet to break one so far. I do trim weeds and grass though. Complaining about the motor not having enough power? This trimmer is a beast and has so much power that it could edge with ease. If I could flip it and edge with the string line, it could easily edge with a metal blade. The reviews for the craftsman metal edging attachment are very good (4 out of 5 stars). Complaining about loose parts and no way to tighten them? You just use that big red knob as it clamps the shaft. It is hard for me to believe that reviewer even has this craftsman trimmer because his complaints are so off base in my opinion (changing a line for every half front yard, not knowing about the big red tightening knob, etc) and then praising a very expensive Hitachi commercial straight line trimmer that he supposedly paid less for... Probably just a Hitachi fan. And you can't get a 24cc Hitachi straight line commercial trimmer for less than this craftsman trimmer as the Hitachi commercial trimmer sells for $280 at ********** and $230 on ******. I am glad that I listened to the positive reviews on this site because it made me lean to this trimmer over the others. I recommend this trimmer.

      Only two seasons and dead
I trusted this brand backed up by Sears. Alas! Just few months after the warranty period, two years, it is dead. Does NOT stay running. I am not a heavy user. Of course, Sears is NOT willing to repair the trimmer few months after the warranty has expired. Really frustrating. Stay away from Craftsman brand!

First of all ************* was nice not counting that it arrived in only 6 days. The curved shafts on the Craftsman weed Wacker has helped mmy back from aching which is a huge plus for me. The new design on the loading of the line is fantastic. Much easier and faster to put a new line in. I am extremely pleased with this product.

      Sturdy: Great Value for Price

The Craftsman 27cc 2-Cycle WeedWacker is a great value for the price. The replaceable trimmer lines are sturdy and easily cut through medium to large sized brush/weeds/etc.

      Great Start

I have used the trimmer 5 times. I use synthetic fuel to make sure the engine is not damaged. I replaced a trimmer because it would not start easily or idle well. I will be more careful maintaining this one. It is easy to pull start. The strings last and are easy to change.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

      Very Loud

It starts easily, cuts what I want to cut. It seems to be very loud. I've only used it a few times, I'm hoping it will last several years.

      Best Trimmer for the Money

After many years of faithful service my old string trimmer died. Having owned only one trimmer in my life, I was at a loss about how to choose another one. After several weeks of researching trimmers in my spare time while the edges of my lawn got longer and longer, I broke down completely. I asked my wife for advice. The first advice she gave me was I better not spend over $150 - that meant 4 stroke machines were out of the question - as were the ones that could be called a bush hog on a stick. The next bit of advice was it had to be on sale. This trimmer met her requirements so we bought it. It was packaged well and the instructions made it easy to assemble. There was really nothing to it - I mostly looked at the pictures once or twice and put it together. It came with a little bottle of 2 stroke oil - and I do mean a little bottle. I usually mix my gas in a 2 gallon can, and there was not enough oil to make 2 gallons of 40:1 mix. Maybe some people have one-gallon gas cans, but I haven't ever seen one. I mixed the gas, filled the tank, and prepared to do battle with the starter. This trimmer has some kind of a gear mechanism on the starter so I didn't have to yank it very hard. Hit the primer bulb 'till I saw gas, put the choke on, pulled it once to see what it felt like, and prepared to pull in earnest. Here's the good part: It started on the second serious pull and idled smoothly until it warmed up. I took the choke off and started trimmimg. My old trimmer used a double line from a spool and had a bump feeder. This trimmer uses something that I had never seen before - looks like red and white spaghetti twisted together. I haven't seen how much these gizmos cost, but I am glad that there were extra ones in the box. How did it trim? It seemed to work a little better than my old trimmer. It cleaned off the sided of my flower bed - a job that used to tear my line to pieces. I trimmed my whole yard and I couldn't even tell that the string gizmo had been used. Other reviews complained about how hard this trimmer was to start and how it was not balanced very well. Mine started right away, and it was a little heavy in the front. It feels very solid in my hands. It doesn't have a place to hook my shoulder harness. I haven't had it very long and I have only used it once, but it does a nice job and is easy to use. I don't think it will require much attention in the future. I would have given it 5 stars if it came with a harness.

I would recommend this product to a friend.

Junk. Won't start and if it does, it eats line

This should be marketed as an aerobic exercise tool. I followed the directions and spent 15 minutes tugging to finally get it to start. Once I started to use it, I had to change the cutting line every 5 minutes mas it wore away almost immediately. I am glad I can return this jun k and but a brand that will actually work.

Does a great job but heavy and vibrates too much

The trimmer works great. It does its job better than I expected. It's a tad heavy, but we knew it would be. The biggest issue I had was the vibration. I constantly had to swap arms just to get the job done and was sore for days afterwards. I had someone else come mow the next time and they commented on how badly it vibrated as well.
